In this week's vlog you will see the interview that I did with George Baker. In 1969 he wrote "Little Green Bag", which became a hit all over the world. Plus in 1992, movie director Quentin Tarantino used the track in his cult classic "Reservoir Dogs". The track also reached the #1 position in Japan, after it was used by whiskey brand "Suntory" in a commercial.
In 2019 George Baker (who's real name is Hans Bouwens) will be in the music business for 50 years, plus "Little Green Bag" will be 50 years old as well then, so reasons enough to talk to him and ask him about the story behind this classic track ...
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

When I first heard this song I immediately was hooked and played it on a loop at work for 5 hours strait. I honestly think if anyone saw that, they probably thought I was crazy 😂
😂
Hans you are Blessed!!!!!!
I listen to it almost everyday. In my favourite playlist
I have loved this since my teen years. I am now 66 and came here looking for this song. TFS cheers from Aussie 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Oh wow, that's great! I hope you enjoyed the interview! Thanks for your comment and stay safe! Cheers from The Netherlands!
What a humble man..huge fan of this and his other songs.. never realized he was dutch. Great interview. Dank je
Gurunath Hari Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! And yes, he’s super nice and humble, great guy!
What a charming guy.
Yes he is! Plus plenty of great stories! :)
God the memories and friends and tunes from when you were 12 right!? I was actually 12 w fantastic gems like this on the radio. We were so lucky!!!
I remember this on AM radio in the US from around 1970.
am a great fan of George Baker and according to me he is one of the greatest singer, composer, musician of our times..he has given us many great and unforgettable melodies..Truly he has put dutch english pop on the world map.Wish him a long ,successful and happy life...Greetings from New Zealand
Thanks for watching my video and the comment, hope you enjoyed it! Greetings from The Netherlands!
Ofcourse I do admit that there were other great bands and singers of that golden age of Dutch pop like BZN,Pussycat,Piet Veerman but only George Bakers compositions e.g Ula Paloma Blanca,Dreamboat etc together with Pussycat(Toni Willie) were popular worldwide ..so much so that GBS and Pussycat were part of my school and college times in Goa,India and were broadcast on the local radio and other places too but strangely little green bag was not that popular .
Greetings back from the south of The Netherlands! Glad you like the interview! :)
@@muzikxpress brabander?
Wasn't Shocking Blue of Venus fame Dutch or do I have that wrong?
I have never been to the Netherlands but have nothing but respect for the Dutch. They Excell at engineering, shipping and other enterprises.
When Kenny Howard chose the name Von Dutch, he wanted everyone to know he would be "stubborn as a Dutchman" when it came to quality. If you didn't like the fact that he would do it right or not at all he didn't want you as a customer.
I have always heard "you can always tell a Dutchman, but you can't tell him much" 😀
Much love and respect from the US
Ever since this song came out I have loved it! When I was about 10 years old this tune came out and was somewhat of a hit on the AM radio. During the summer that it came out, we used to stay up as late as we possibly could before falling asleep hoping to hear this amazing song! CKLW rarely played it during the daytime. I'm 58 and still listen to it at least every other week! What a song!!! Thank you Hans!!!!
As you reminded me, it's been 55 years. I'm an old lady now. I was sorting out my leftover balls of knitting yarn and was throwing the green and blue ones into one bag. I began thinking of it as my "little green bag" and it all came back. I had to look up this fun song that came out the year I started university. I'm making a little rug for the kitchen out of my little green bag. I've never seen Reservoir Dogs. I've never heard it anywhere else!
I love this story! Happy knitting 😉
I love him so much, he's an amazing singer even though English is not his first language, he is impressive 😁
Little Green Bag has been on of my favourite songs since it first charted in Canada. After hearing this interview, I realize the song was concepted and brought to life the way I paint, write and live my life. Spontaneously, with joy.
Fantastic interview with a wonderful artist. I have always loved his hallmark song "Little Green Bag" since it came out, way back in the 1960's. I always thought he was talking about looking for his stash of pot. Really funny to find out that wasn't the story. Thanks George for all the great music you have gifted to the world.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the interview! And same, I always thought it was about pot too haha
My initial impression upon hearing this tune in 1969 -- "Great bassline -- great hook and groove right from the get-go!" That's how I still view this tune. I'm gonna have "Little Green Bag" played at my send-off.
I was 15 when this song came out, I was also reminded of it when Reservoir Dogs came out. Always thought it had a good funky beat.
little green bags a good tune man....timeless
The mix of this track is perfect. Often in the top 20 of the tracks i've heard the most every year
Great singer. I love him. ❤❤❤❤
This my favorite song in high school it brings back memories still love this song good job George and ur group
Hans you have a terrific voice. Great song man!
Such a humble person george baker is - so True - rare.Wonderful interview + a lasting document.
Thank you! And yes, he is!!
I could hear this song all day long.
One of my favourite songs!! Love it❣️
I clearly remember this Little Green Bag song and Paloma Blanca. Guess what guys? The 2020 movie "Troop Zero" features Little Green Bag. Pretty cool this song lives to see an entirely new audience.
Fabulous interview, thanks guys
I love "Paloma Blanca" too haha! Such a catchy song hehe! And so cool that "Little Green Bag" still gets so much attention, 50 years after its release!
He's an amazing gentle man.
May God bless him, with good health.
Your songs are sooo wonderful and beautiful.
Hats off to you dear . ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great interview. Asked all the right questions!
Saddened to hear that George and Tarantino have never met!
Thanks so much! And yeah, I hope that one day they will still be able to meet. This year "Little Green Bag" turns 50, so would be a good reason for a meeting ;-)
Fantastic interview. It was nice to hear and understand Hans Bouwen (George Baker) talking and what he said.
I haven't heard this song since the '70's. Then today, something triggered me to start singing it out of the blue. I had to immediately check TH-cam so I could hear it. There are not that many songs that are perfect but this is one of them. Just has a certain mojo about and his singing voice is great on it.
1:28 Im 30 yo and native spanish speaker, never heard the song or saw the movie but 2 years ago i heard it in the radio and since then i cant stop listening, really a enjoyable song
Wat heerlijk om twee Nederlanders dat steenkolenengels te horen spreken! ;) Leuk interview. Het is toch wel een all-time classic, dit nummer.
Dank je!!
💓🎶Memories!Love this song and thanks Hans and George Baker Selection for being part of the soundtrack of my life!🎶📀
Smart interview. And I loved the song playing in the background throughout.
Thanks Roger, glad you enjoyed it!
I so love this funky song and my gawd, George is still hot.
Shirley, I love your name. You must be a fan of that movie Airplane
PopShoppekid Yes and I’ve just heard the jokes my whole life.
He’s even hotter now!
What a song for your first.
I will have to check out his other stuff.
It is such a classic sounding track.
I am 72years old, I remember very clearly my first time hearing this song from the backseat of my fathers station wagon on our way to the drive in and I was hooked! AM radio sucked but that was all we had, I didnt want to hear any MoTown, I just wanted songs like Shapes of things, by the Yardbirds, I'm Alive by the Hollies and this gem!
grande george baker, gracias por toda su maravillosa musica, desde colombia toda mi admiracion.
Nice interview, Dank je wel. George Baker seems like a lovely man. I remember the song from when it came out in about 1970.
We would jump out of our seats to dance to this. People were bouncing around and bumping to each other. Back or Bag, it's a great song.
❤️ What a talented man and this song has a great beat to it which makes it a Gold Hit....I appreciate the bass at the beginning well.
Well done Hans, love your work. 😊
His first song! That’s amazing. It’s so creative and so unusual to this day. And his vocals are killer!
David Parker pretty epic right? And exactly 50 years old this year hehe
Love this song just as much as you do but, there is a but: have you ever heard 'Una Paloma Blanca'? If you didn't, dont ever listen to it. You will be SO disappointed... I heard it about 10.000 times + the commercials who used it. Love the commercial from the Lidl though WITH the little 'brown' bag. So funny!! I hope I will never hear that White Paloma again because it makes me hate his voice for a while and I love this song.. ;-) Tis een eindbaas, zoveel is zeker!!
@@muzikxpress I was exactly 5 years, didn't change a bit since then LOL. Love this song!! Tnx for posting
@@sunnya.2665 I agree with you totally, can't understand what happened after this first classic song of his
I honestly never knew George Baker was Dutch, and now after hearing him, I just want him to say, 'Hey, come have a schmoke and a pancake!'.
😂
This is such a badass song such a great track
Lovely interview ❤
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding
I only discovered Little Green Bag purely by accident fairly recently and I love it it is a nice wee catchy tune
The best song ever? yes for me I love it still and play it daily even so many years on...love it
As a teen hearing this song, me and my friends thought the guy was singing about a lost bag of weed somewhere on the train tracks. We knew how expensive and precious a bag of weed was in those days and we thought it was so cool he wrote a song about it. But in this interview, he said the song had nothing to do with weed. 50 years dashed in a few seconds!
Haha hope you enjoyed the interview 😉
@ I certainly did!
this song gives me goosebumps.
Super interview and really interesting, thank you for giving the guy room to speak, lovely work.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Great interview with a great guy! Like many others, I did not know he was Dutch. We learn things every day! Thanks!
Thank you! And yes, he’s Dutch indeed hehe 🇳🇱
This is a great interview. Thank you !

Just watched the tv show psych and the song plays on it I remembered it well

Great guy, down to earth
What a nice guy, fantastic interview twan. I’ve learned so much…. your work is very interested and informative. Respect ❤️
Thanks a lot!!
Awesome interview 😅
Thank you!
Musically it is so uplifting
One of 5 best songs of the sevendys ...
1969, Writing about drugs and not knowing about it takes a lot of inspiration.
You are welcome to call me Hunter.
It must have occurred to them fairly early, unless it was pure coincidence that one of them was rolling a joint in one of the promotional videos:
th-cam.com/video/kipjrg5O0A4/w-d-xo.html
👍🏻yesir, I think a little green bag was unintentionally the inspiration for the song. 😁💚
Euphoric i think you mean
Nice
Que saude fantástico obrigado por nos fazer feliz😍😙🌻
Muito obrigado!
hele toffe weer, twan! :)
Dank je wel!!
Awesome song
Love you Hans
AWESOME SONG EVEN IN 2021
Love that bass line in that song. In fact it makes the song.
For sure, great, great intro!
George baker selection is my favourite band....
Nice one!
Heard it way back on WLS 890 am. Went to Ferdinands Music store and bought the 45.
It also features in a videogame called "Under the Skin". Published by Capcom for PS2 back in 2004.
Though it might not feature within the game till the end titles. At which point it becomes available as in game music by switching to it in settings. (i think)
Fascinating; the tune has a Mexican polka beat to it. I thing this fella was Hispanic in a past life 😝. I would have never guessed he was from the Netherlands.
Absolutely love this song.
We were stationed in Suesterberg, Holland 1978-1983 and loved it I especially loved The George Baker band. I loved the interview. I love Little Green Bag, always will but My favorite song tho is Paloma Blanca. Nobody sings it like George Baker.
Paloma Blanca does seem to confirm that about his past life.
Awesomeness soooo interesting
Thank you!
I love the accent. Makes me feel better about my own.
Aint much if you aint dutch
Haha yeah it is hard to speak perfectly English without an accent I think ;-) It doesn't bother me too much tbh :D
@@muzikxpress Dude I sympathize. Dutch myself, and the Dutch accent is very hard to shake
George Barker 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you 👍
George had a great voice. I listened to GBS at school. Holland produced a few good bands then
We still have good bands. Our southern neighbours (Belgium) as well.
@@xulphyte excellent
Legend!
now I got to watch the movie. Thanks again, my friend.
Actually been a while since I watched it myself as well, so not a bad idea ;-)
Never have I heard it before today.
Oooooh I Have Heard Of That Track Of Somewhere Like In Movie Or In TV Show Or Something Like That That's Cool
The man is a genius.
Sweet Dude
This guy deserved more much more notoriaty
For sure!
George is cool😎
Great!
I thought the title was a misprint and is actually "little greenback" (American dollars). I.e. looking for cash
Not to be confused with Little Wet Back, which I wrote
Haha!
'Paloma blanca' was cute, too.
Oh yes for sure!!! So catchy!
HELL NO, IT WAS NOT!!
Nice video
Thank you!
Way cool
Hey Twan ...daar ben ik weer....1969..mijn geboorte jaar...En little green Bag... uiteindelijk via een club track uitgebracht..door Marcelino via Royal Club label..Private recordings....:...Cavanaugh..'Do you know this one' ..remix DJAlpha-bet... Groeten van Jorgen Veltrop....
Sounds like Jackie Wilson!🙂😁😁
What, no mention of the song's use in a Red Dwarf episode?
That's correct! :P
Sounds like a song that the Texas Tornados would sing
❤💫
I like the Dutch accent.
