Okay, here's the plan: The Skylanders video is almost done, but still needs the Ts crossed and Is dotted. So, not to give people an immediate scare, I will lead with another train video after this one, and then the Skylanders video will probably go up around Christmas time. I hope.
Also, if I would choose where to run these trains, i’d do it between the longest routes to circumvent the “going through spare parts like candy” thing. And also have actually streamlined coaches
So nice to see some GOOD content about Dutch loco's, and congrats on the very proper pronounciation. As a 12 year old I've had a ride behind that 3737 on it's last public trip in 1989.
I was listening to this video in the background and suddenly I hear "Nederlandse Spoorwegen" be pronounced so perfectly it'd put some Dutch people to shame. Holy shit.
Never seen one of your videos before, immediately subscribed. Well presented interesting facts, with wit and at a pace my brain can process but isn't bored at, easy to listen to AND you don't just anglicise the pronunciations. Plus bagpipes. What's not to love
Don't hang me for it, maybe it's the scientist and engineer in me, but I honestly like that streamlined casing better than the best known British streamlined locos, and many American ones too. The sloped sides and raised bulge at the front make it look taller than it is, giving it the same tall imposing look of the American Hiawathas, the cutouts for accessing the wheels and the way the casing subtly curves to accommodate the cylinders is fairly elegant to my eyes, the small smoke deflectors serve visually as greebling, breaking up the silhouette in a pleasing way and giving it a bit of a steampunk or syfy look, and I actually think the function over form doors on the front make it feel more like a strong, no nonsense machine, compared to the more complicated doors of the A4 and Coronation class. I won't deny the sperm whale look, but sperm whales are that shape for a reason, and If anything I think it's a good thing. Give it a bit of lining and properly matched coaches, and I think it would have looked at least as elegant as the coronations, or alternatively it could really rock that steampunk look with either a brownish satin grey livery, or a unpainted bronze casing. I even saw a joke model of it online in a modern EMU livery, and I think it unironically looks great.
Not sure if he was born in the Netherlands, but according to his channel info he lived there at one point (and based on his accent lived there for quite a while)
@BrokenIET I was in training in the Dutch army with a guy of Scottish descent, he spoke Dutch with a slight Scottish accent, when he spoke English it got turned on full tilt :)
I love this locomotive, so cool yet in such a stupid way Also, a streamlined locomotive that has it’s class name as the 38 class? Did copyright extend to railways?
No engines numbers were allowcated to a slot (3701-3899) 3701- 3830 are just the 3700 class. The first engine of the firts batch was produced in 1910 ( Beyer Peacock UK ) during WW1 Dutch Werkspoor did build some engines (war export restrictions UK) in 1928 Schwarzkopf in Germany did build 5 with bigger cillinders.
Knew of the class via previously mentioned Roblox game; watched the video to the end; still think the streamlined 3700s were sh*t compared to the non-streamlined units (were the plated ones so much heavier they had a 5 km/h lower top speed?)
They were heavier, yes, but they showed improvement in performance over the non-streamlined 3700s. I know nothing about the Roblox game these feature in but if the Potvis is definitively slower in an ordinary 3700 in it, the developers are sorely mistaken.
French 230K Est where notoriously ugly viewed from the side, with enormous bulbous screens. And there were called… « blue whales »… I suppose imagination is the same in Holland than in France!😊
First of all very nice you covered the potvis and funny streamlined reference at the end!!!!!(le funny roblox train game) But Uhhh you say into 1958 but thats kinda misleading since like a grant total of 2 steam hauled trains ran in januari 1958 1 being 3737 with the last offical steam train and a other one on a branchline a few days later because the diesel broke and was either old locomotive meant for scrap or nothing So yea its officaly 1958 most dutch train fans agree 2 trains in like the first 2 weeks of year realy isnt enough and 1957 should realy be seen as the last year of steam

When I saw that thumbnail I went: “IT’S THE ROLLING BATHTUB!”
A4 is also a bathtub just more refined
The best description of an A4 comes from Robert Adley - who referred to them as having the outline of a pregnant whale.
@FlyingScott I feel a distubance in the force when considering image searching the term "pregnant whale" so I'll just nod and agree
nice to see this niche loco get the recognition it deserves
Also, if I would choose where to run these trains, i’d do it between the longest routes to circumvent the “going through spare parts like candy” thing. And also have actually streamlined coaches
I love how the narration with a heavy Scottish accent is casually laced with perfectly pronounced Dutch words. It's kinda funny.
Every TH-camr needs a shtick, mine is that I lace my videos with the occasional arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekering.
When I saw the locomotive on the thumbnail I thought. "Thats a curious one".

Let’s be real, who here would absolutely bung into their house a bathtub that was the inverse shape of their favourite streamlined engine?
Man I love your slang. It makes this video even more interesting.^^
okay but why are his dutch pronounciations so well spoken??

A bit of dutch slipped in the english subtitle there, Scot. Kmph is the English one. Anyways, lovely video!
You should do a video about the NMBS/SNCB Type 12
I only recently discovered this peculiar loco by playing a roblox game.
you didn't watch the whole video through I see ;)
@@FlyingScott Well, at least now I have lol
@@able_archer01 Are you speaking of Roblox Srreamlined?
@ yep
@@able_archer01 Banger game
The 3737 🚂 is better known under the nickname Oude Dame, wich means: Old Lady. 😉👍
Potvispencer here
I understood that reference
Your Dutch diction is flawless! (I'm assuming you're not a native Dutch speaker..?) Great video, btw.

How do the maintenance crew access the boiler washout plugs?
There's a row of access hatches along the sides of the loco. Much an A4 with their sand boxes, but the hatches on a Potvis are vertical.
Now i'm questioning if theres any story behind the belgian 12...
The loconotive in the thumbnail looked like a giant white cat in wheels
very impressed with the pronunciation of all the dutch, usually the language gets butchered
Sounds a bit l8ke the B17/5 that were used on the Great Eastern Mainline. They got streamlining but no streamlined coaches as a marketing ploy.
I love this locomotive, so cool yet in such a stupid way

@ I’m pointing out the fact that the Dutch had a set of 38s that were streamlined similar to the NSWGR
That thumbnail engine reminds me of the combine trains from half life 2

Say Scott, you got anymore streamlined locos and trains of note that were also ugly?
French 230K Est where notoriously ugly viewed from the side, with enormous bulbous screens.
And there were called… « blue whales »… I suppose imagination is the same in Holland than in France!😊
One was in Russia?
The york museum if anyone ask where those engines are
First time seeing your videos and i was not exoecting your voice from the thumbnail.
I do hope I'm not being insensitive saying that.
No no don't worry - I am 100% used to it. In fact, I do it on purpose nowadays to weed out people who have a fit over not hearing a feminine voice!
@FlyingScott that's funny.
6:05 - that's "moot" in (sort of) the US sense, i.e. no longer relevant, as opposed to the British sense - yet to be determined and possibly decisive.

Next you'll be telling me the Waverley route didn't outlast steam because those four days into 1969 don't count.
We hebben dat toch mooi gedaan
Why do we Dutch keep failing in train design?😂😂😂😂
A sandwich named after a city, not the other way around. 😒
