    This looks completely professional. How the hell does this high school have so many fabulous dancers and singers and actors. What is the director feeding them. How.

      sadly, we had to use MTI tracks. with the limited seating space in our courtyard, we could not figure out where to put the pit. BUT we will have live pit this year for Footloose when we are back in our auditorium!

    • @HilltopperTheatre
      @HilltopperTheatre  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Due to COVID-related restrictions, this performance (along with our Fall 2020 production of "Radium Girls") was performed at a custom-built stage in a previously unused courtyard. Everything, from the stage itself to the lighting truss, was hand-built and detailed over the course of 6 months!

    I want to APOLOGISE sincerely for my shitty comments about this production. Some of them still hold true but I went way beyond harsh. SUMMIT deliver hands down the best HS productions of musicals EVER. PIPPIN, MAMA MIA,, HOW TO SUCCEED et al. All of then would translate as Broadway ready. I need to acknowledge the remarkable talent of DONALD GRENNON. His dancing is superb and his vocal ability continues to soar. I was guilty of criticizing his SANTA FE post (he was obviously prepping for NEWSIES). I was wrong again. This man is a star On the rise. All he needs to do now is own his triple threat talent. Mitchell should watch his back 😊😊 Sorry once again. Yeah. There must have been something in my Cheerios. Heartfelt wishes for a great 2022.

    why is there a crutchie clone? genuine question because they go from needing the crutch to just putting them down
    genuinely one of the most baffling decisions I have EVER seen in a musical, especially a production with otherwise good quality

    • @HilltopperTheatre
      @HilltopperTheatre  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! The "clone" was actually our dance captain who sadly tore her ACL right before our performances. In order to keep her in the show, we gave her crutches for when she had to move around! I hope this clears it up :)

    Whoa! I was so looking forward to this. I am a huge fan of Summit's work, but this is AWFUL I understand the outdoor limitations but that does not even begin to define the problems. The casting of girls as newsies is historically incorrect and amounts to nothing more than woke BS, and doesn't play. Again, we have a girl tavern owner who looks all of 13. For the most part, the dialogue is little more than parrot perfect. The 'theme park' moustaches on the childlike Pulitzer and his crony are laughable, as is the mangled version of BOTTOM LINE. Miss Medda cuts it in her big scene but what happened to the vocal chorus? Katherine makes a fair fist of WATCH WHAT HAPPENS but she can't act. The can't act problem is pretty much across the board. I guess it is almost a victimless crime because the audience seemed happy with what they were watching. If there is a victim in all of this mish mash, it is DONALD GRENNON. He manages to shine in a sea of ineptitude. I love this kid. A stunning dancer as always. and he is beginning to nail his vocals. I was guilty of dissing his "at home" version of SANTA FE something like a year back for being pitchy and less than heartfelt. Huge improvement, mister. His "acting" is fine but he has to invest more honest emotion. Romeo better not be another walk through.
    Sorry Hilltopper. You blew it

      this was absolutely unnecessary and you could've kept all your rude comments to yourself. you also clearly didn't watch any of it if you thought it was awful. you are also forgetting that these are teenagers and not broadway actors, but that's besides the point because everyone in the cast did an incredible job.

      My favorite part of this comment is complaining about the girls in the cast not being historically accurate. Characters in this show are both far older and younger than what they actually would, and most importantly, wouldn’t be singing or dancing. Some musicals can be grounded and realistic but this is clearly not the main goal of Newsies.

    • @amarawoolery8404
      @amarawoolery8404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I don't normally reply to TH-cam comments, but I couldn't just let this one sit here without calling you out on your words.
      It seems as if you were expecting a Broadway-level production. Might I remind you that these are HIGHSCHOOLERS??? Not only that, they were performing outdoors in 90 degree weather, and to a track instead of a live orchestra. Literally EVERYTHING was against them, and they managed to stick with it and give the best show they possibly could despite the circumstances.
      I am fairly certain that you, even if ideal circumstances, could not sing, dance, or act better than any of these kids did. That's why you sit at home and comment mean things their videos instead.
      No, this production wasn't perfect. News flash: no show ever has been, not even on Broadway or West End. The live recordings you see of these shows have been filmed over several days and heavily edited. The beauty of musical theatre is that it's NOT perfect-- everyone performs each role differently, and the flaws are what make it so beautiful.
      Also, as far as their being female actors, don't you think they KNOW it's not historically accurate? Neither are dance numbers, and people randomly bursting out in song! Genderbending is becoming a new thing in the theater community, especially for schools like this who likely didn't have enough qualified men to play all of the Newsies. Anyone with a bit on sense would recognize that the girls performed these parts just as well as the boys did.
      So please, until YOU can get up on a stage in 90-degree weather and put on a perfect performance on Newsies, just be quiet. Oh, and find something better to do than commenting terrible things.
