Adventure 1 had no bugs? Come on, it's a 3D game from the 90's, it has plenty of bugs. It's in my top 3 favorite games ever, but the original has its fair share of bugs too.
Sorry to say but I absolutely fell through level geometry and got flung in random directions when playing this game on DC back in the day. Sonic Adventure is unique in that it's a game which is genuinely far worse than you remember it being, precisely because the later re-releases were far worse than the original.
Nah, that is true for the vast majority of "remasters", you just happen to be aware of this one. All the older Final Fantasy games for instance looked far better on their original hardware, especially FF7 and FF10.
The character animations for this game were rumored to have been made by enigmatic pop sensation Michael Jackson, that's why they all move with such exaggerated swagger.
damn bro i didnt expect a sonic adventure video from dunkey to happen at this point seemed like a thing that would have happened already and had passed its window of opportunity. happy to see
I think part of its harsh reception is the rerelease redid a bunch of the textures and has gazillion gameplay and graphical bugs that werent present in the original release. I mean fixing those doesnt make it like a 9 out of 10 or anything but buying it on steam and trying to play it is like playing version made out of ducktape and elmers stick glue. Theres a one click mod installer you can get to make the game mostly like it was on the dreamcast but it should really just be like that.
I remember playing this on a Dreamcast kiosk at a carpet store back in the summer of 1999 as a kid. It blew my mind coming from an N64 and I couldn't stop playing it.
I loved this game! I mostly watched my older siblings play but one time they managed to do the "fruit loops glitch" where you go behind the map at a certain point and just infinite rings are tumbling down this ramp and nothing has textures it's just red and green multicolor madness. I've been playing a bunch of games from my childhood and realized how much video games mean to my life. It's inspiring to see a big youtuber do reviews of obscure old games because I want to bring back my nostalgia too but I guess I've still been afraid people wont like it. Thanks for all the videos (and now games) Dunkey.
My brother bought a dreamcast second hand in about 2001 from a kid at school. We got House of the Dead with the gun, Power Stone 1 & 2 and this. Sonic Adventure was such a special experience, and the sequel took it even further. Hard to explain to people who didn't play a Dreamcast just how special a console it was.
Dunkey is just straight up the gaming reviewer equivalent of The Riddler at this point. There's so much goddamn irony and sarcasm in these videos that I can't dig Dunkey's actual opinion out of it. And that's why we love him.

I am gonna say it, this is better than Mario 64
Sonic Adventure > Mario 64 DS > Mario 64 (N64) > Sonic Adventure DX.
The music alone makes its infinitely better than sm64 imo
this game really makes you feel like Big's Big Fishing 🎣
2:05 me casually going insane over time after seeing this same HD Version glitch for the 1000th time
probably the favorite game of my childhood, replaying it on emulator in my adulthood was a blast.
This video feels like someone is trying to convince me the world is flat.
This game really makes you FEEL like a hedgehog!
It makes you feel like an Adventure.
Dude Sh** on this game for as long as u like but this game will still be one of the greatest gaming memories I have as a kid.
Dunkey showcasing the old speedrunning adage
"walls are a suggestion"
3:36 is Parappa the Rappers voice actor. You learned something today huh
The rapper for SA1's Unknown By M.E. is Dred Foxx, who indeed voiced Parappa the Rappa. He later scammed some teenage fans and threatened to come fight them, ruining his reputation.
The performer for SA2's version and all Knuckles stage theme raps, Hunnid P, later threw a shitfit and claimed Sega didn't properly compensate him. He consequently fought with fans. Ask him a question and he blocked you in a second.
The singing vocalist in both games is Marlon Saunders, who also worked in NiGHTS Into Dreams and Burning Rangers. I haven't heard anything bad related to him, fortunately.
To be fair, that all sounds like something Knuckles would do.
Froggy is a funnier character than they’ve ever had before.
Those songs man... Made me buy an mp3 player.
I had a pc version and i searched for them in the files so that I could play them. And I did. And it was the best thing in the world. I felt like a higher being
Dunkey doesnt meme at the start, you know hes deadly serious
Is it me or Dunkey is talking like he doesn't wanna wake up his mom
Now I'm just anxiously awaiting the first 4d sonic game!
I was one of the ten people with a Dreamcast and this game. I actually loved it 😂
This game, and all of its sights and sounds, are quintessentially my childhood
0:02 Look at all those walking cycles.
Sonic adventure still has some of the best 3D Sonic levels to this day. I love the momentum system in this game
sonic advernture was actually the first 3d game EVER, let that sink in, it started off this good
I audibly gasped when i saw this in my recommended. Dunkey finally covering my favorite sonic game
Bruh I loved playing Sonic Adventure on my Grandma's dreamcast as a kiddo. Good memories, but I got lost A LOT 😅
My childhood is straight up just this game, and I have no regrets about that.
"But come on now, a worthy rival to Mario sixty-"
*YES*
no
@@Paco8478Games better than Mario 64
@@dinglemeisterznah but both are way better than kids online seem to try to tell you nowadays. sm64 is one of my top 5 games ever and adventure is top 30 or so though
in any case, i likes to get my
Haven't watched it yet. CLASSIC
I loved this game on my dreamcast and will probably never feel like I did the day I first played it. I remember running into my sisters room to tell her about the chaos. It was simplistically beautiful.
I grew up with Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, still one of the best Sonic game ever
This is a perfect example why remasters have to be well done, the original game had NO bugs at all, it's all the DX port that made all those bugs and made the game uglier, people think adventure 1 is a shit game because it is a shit port
If you mod to make it like the original the game it's goated
Really curious how remasters can change the whole perception of a product
Adventure 1 had no bugs? Come on, it's a 3D game from the 90's, it has plenty of bugs. It's in my top 3 favorite games ever, but the original has its fair share of bugs too.
@@ilikepie19921 the original on Dreamcast? No game breaking bugs no, even the one in emerald coast where you clip through the loops doesn't exist
Sorry to say but I absolutely fell through level geometry and got flung in random directions when playing this game on DC back in the day. Maybe not that point specifically, but for sure in the first level and final egg. Still love the game, still better than the port, but it sadly wasn't devoid of bugs.
@@Atolm4I agree, but the dreamcast version is genuinely much better than the port. Not flawless but feels damn near it in comparison.
@@Atolm4 Yea that's the way I view it. It has bugs, but you could say the same about any 3D platformer at the time.
I loved this game as a kid and I still love it now, bugs and all. It was the first game I ever totally finished and I still revisit it from time to time
Dreamcast OG isn't nowhere near as broken and unpolished. SEGA never launched a fully functional SA1 port.
Still one of the greatest video game intros of all time...
Sonic Adventure is unique in that it's a game which is genuinely far worse than you remember it being, precisely because the later re-releases were far worse than the original.
It's the videogame version of Star Wars's Special Editions.
@@saricubra2867 Huh, you're right!
Nah, that is true for the vast majority of "remasters", you just happen to be aware of this one. All the older Final Fantasy games for instance looked far better on their original hardware, especially FF7 and FF10.
The original is crap anyways
@@CaptainFalcoyd FFX remaster overshadows the original by the texture quality and lighting res.
"Tails is gonna die!"
"HOORAY!"
The character animations for this game were rumored to have been made by enigmatic pop sensation Michael Jackson, that's why they all move with such exaggerated swagger.
Hey ur the guy who makes the funny comments with the funny picture. I like ur funny comment
The fact that Froggy being vital to the story is true hurts me so much
DONKEEEEEEW THEY MAKE THE DONKEY KONGA RETURND
COUNTRY YES
damn bro i didnt expect a sonic adventure video from dunkey to happen at this point seemed like a thing that would have happened already and had passed its window of opportunity. happy to see
I think part of its harsh reception is the rerelease redid a bunch of the textures and has gazillion gameplay and graphical bugs that werent present in the original release.
If Sonic Adventure 3 has a Chao Garden and Hyper Sonic, Nintendo will get bankrupt.
The music from this game are still ones I go back to fondly.
Sonic Adventure brings back so many memories! The Hub areas and the epic soundtrack were just the best! 🌟🦔
0:48 did dunkey really just predict Keanu Reeves in the Sonic movie????
*gasp
You're right
Foreshadowing!
Or should I say "ForeSHADOWing!!" Hahaha! I made a funni!
“Lower score than Balan Wonderworld” Ok in other news every game ever has a lower score than that game, #1 ever made
IGN gave God Hand a lower score than Balan Wonderworld
Well it is the DX port after all and that port of the game sucks
I loved this game! I mostly watched my older siblings play but one time they managed to do the "fruit loops glitch" where you go behind the map at a certain point and just infinite rings are tumbling down this ramp and nothing has textures it's just red and green multicolor madness.
I've been playing a bunch of games from my childhood and realized how much video games mean to my life. It's inspiring to see a big youtuber do reviews of obscure old games because I want to bring back my nostalgia too but I guess I've still been afraid people wont like it.
Thanks for all the videos (and now games) Dunkey.
Never heard of that glitch before is it in the Dreamcast version or the crappy DX port
Sonic is so cool and fast
I think we could all learn a thing or two from him
4:20 The thing is the Frog was quite happy in the dark until Sonic had to be a jerk and throw some firecrackers.

I still go back and watch your Kallista video and still bust out laughing hearing you yell “I NEED TRIPLE PIZZAS! I NEED QUAD PIZZAS!!! PENTAKILL!!!!!!”
Balan Wonderworld having a higher metascore is everything wrong with gaming today.
