I first watched #34 race in 1982 I think it was, at Sears Point Raceway. He was riding a Yamaha FJ 600 in a WERA endurance race. I don’t remember how he finished, but I remember how much I laughed at his “enthusiasm” on the bike, and how he twisted and tortured that little flexy bike that day. He stood out. And I watched his career from that day onwards. By far, the most entertaining rider of his time. The shit that he got away with was EPIC! I watched him slaughter Wayne Rainey at Sears Point a few years later in the AMA Superbike race, beating him by half a lap, while clowning around and doing wheelies through the esses! (Mikuni used a pic from that race for an ad.) Kevin was a fan favorite, for more than one reason. He was nuts, he had balls, and he had fun.
I was lucky and privileged to be Suzuki team manager during the Kevin years. As years go by I realise just How lucky I was to be trackside for the greatest ever period of GP racing. Every race contested to the very edge by absolute titans. For me KEVIN was the greatest in an amazing group of Gods, all of whom gave us fans unbelievable racing excitement. This great video shows some amazing skills and determination, not just from Kev ,all without the dreaded driver aids. Of course for me KEVIN’s absolute commitment to winning, practically at all costs, shows clearly why he was and still is the fans favourite. He sucks you in with his enthusiasm and you share his joy at the wins. A true legend. The whole team would have walked through fire with him. The post race win diner celebrations were fantastic and true expression of an amazing teams love for “ their” Kevin. Have just returned from the always incredible Goodwood Festival of Speed, where another great, Steve Parrish , ran Kevin’s RG up the hill. His 34 bike was very much the centre of attention. Even 25 years plus since his Championship win there were dozens of fans in KS t shirts etc. Sign of a true legend May they never be forgotten........as if. THOSE WERE THE DAYS! Garry Taylor
I was a big fan of 500 GP back in the Eighties and Nineties, one endureing memory of Schwants was at a track I can't name and a year I don't remember, but I remember this. It was a left hander and the rear stepped out big time, most would have high sided but Schwants just ripped open the taps and bagged up the rear tyre propelling him foward.I rember the comentators laughing in astonishment and saying "don't try that at home", never been able to find a clip of it.
Those 500 2 strockes were a dream, men using dangerous rockets. Everyone knew they were impossible to ride fast except for the best pilots of the planet. Danger was everywhere. Not to make any mistake , not to destroy the tires. They had to be smooth and fast, sometimes agressive but not too much because danger and tires. Each one waiting for a little mistake of the other. Many times , you looked at you fav pilot , 1 sec later he was out and you said NOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! Many times , the races seemed to be long long , what a stress looking at tv but what a pleasure to see. All those pilots were very courageous , running with the necessary fear not to destroy them. And nice to see the respect they had when race was over, just congratuling each other to finish the race even the battle was hard. Thanks to all who were champion and thanks to the one which never had the title (sometimes not the good bike).
Kevin was such a sensational racer with guts and a steely determination to win at all costs, he reminds me of Colin McRae he had that kind of win or bust style about him and that’s why he remains a massive fans favourite still to this day Hats off to you Kevin 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🏍🏍🏍🏆🏆🏆
Yes men who had the courage & skill to tame those monster bikes with no traction control, wheelie control etc. Remember my favourites Eddie Lawson, Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Rainey, Randy Mamola, Barry Sheene, Wayne Gardner, also John Kockinsky(?), and later on 'Valiant' Valentino Rossi (Max Biaggi), Mick Doohan...and others too!
Great video mate, what a fucken legend, anyone who saw him/them at the time knows.......................when the riders rode, 2 stroke power delivery, no traction & wheelie control, just the right hand.........................and balls the size of watermelons
On a 2-stroke without electronic assistance = 3 times higher performance than today's best. Extraordinarily skilled. Like a rodeo rider. True Texan cowboy. Thanks!
That was great! Thanks for the memories. I loved the Rainey/Schwantz/Doohan battles. All those guys are balls-out, you gotta be to race 500cc GP but you might could argue Schwantz was a little more balls out than the rest?
I bought 2 bikes because of Schwantz, a Pepsi Suzukl RG125 as a learner, and a RG500 when I passed my test in 1989. My racing hero, and that comes from a Brit.
Kevin Schwanz was the MM93 back then. Together with Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson, Mick Doohan is he still one of the best. At timeline 2:54 that was in Hockenheim in the last lap, I guess that was 1991. That happend at the entrance to the Motodrom. Over the whole race Wayne Rainey was leading. The last chance for Kevin to overtook Rainey was there. I was there sitting in Motodrom and everybody screaming, it was AMAZING (goose bumps). Good old days, two-stroke fire and no control electric.
I saw Schwantz in 1987 at Brands Hatch I think it was a 750 race, bike cranked over at 120 mph up on back wheel and then he put a big black line down asphalt, I never saw bike control like that since, for me Kev is a guy touched by the hand of God.
i was - and am still - fan of Kevin... i was 20 in 1988 and saw most of motogp races. One of the most talented pilots ever... like Geboers, Carlqvist ( rip to them ) in moto cross races.
As a Namibian 🇳🇦 at school, we'd NEVER miss him and that gang fighting it out. He was the most fearless and exiting of all time. My favorite by far. No disrespect to other guys but long for those late breaking, balls to the walls days... Love from Bloemfontein, South Africa. 🇿🇦 ❤️
I haven't known this period of motorcycle racing... It is really amazing to see ! You also how much it has changed through the years... Very interesting.
Kevin. I was too young to watch you race. But you are my favourite rider. I have followed moto gp since 10 and have researched what went before me. You took a beating off our Rob. And you thoroughly enjoyed it apparently. You laughed your head off whilst he punched you.And Rob loves you. And so do I. Thank you for you.

Super vidéo SCHWANTZ du grand spectacle THX !!
The best time of motorcycle Racing. 2 stroke for ever !!!
シュワンツとレイニーのバトルは異次元のレベルの争いだった
*Poetry in Motion and a pure Magician on a Bike - Kevin No 34 !* ❤🏍☑
Kevin was such a sensational racer with guts and a steely determination to win at all costs, he reminds me of Colin McRae he had that kind of win or bust style about him and that’s why he remains a massive fans favourite still to this day
Hats off to you Kevin 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🏍🏍🏍🏆🏆🏆
Eterno 34 ❤❤❤❤
Absolut Hammer der Kevin Schwantz ,jeder andere hätte schon auf der Rennstrecke gelegen 🙄🤔😎✌Die Wheelies und Drifts sind Spitzenklasse👌
This man is a legend.
These guys was my heroes, Kevin, Freddie, Kenny Roberts, they was real riders!!!
Lawson?
sorry, i forgot him, another great rider....
今見ても、クレイジー!最高!
2:53のブレーキングは伝説です
これ、確かホッケンハイムですよね。ファイナルラップの壮絶バトル。
How I miss these times!!
2:37 one of the, if not THE cheekiest moves on a motorcycle I've ever seen lol
Great video mate, what a fucken legend, anyone who saw him/them at the time knows.......................when the riders rode, 2 stroke power delivery, no traction & wheelie control, just the right hand.........................and balls the size of watermelons
On a 2-stroke without electronic assistance = 3 times higher performance than today's best.
Extraordinarily skilled. Like a rodeo rider. True Texan cowboy. Thanks!
Remember seeing all the American gtreats in the Transatlantic trophy, what a series that was, including Randy's saves...
Kevin, watching you in these videos makes me 22 again buddy.
That was great! Thanks for the memories. I loved the Rainey/Schwantz/Doohan battles. All those guys are balls-out, you gotta be to race 500cc GP but you might could argue Schwantz was a little more balls out than the rest?
love the way you ride Kevin Schwartz thanks for the video video people
the GOAT. Numbers just can't describe how that guy was on his 120 % ALL the time.
Wicked compilation!
Super vidéo. Kevin sur 500 rgv une moto exceptionnelle. Pour un pilote de légende.
simply an artist
Fantastic images but the sound..!!????damned.
Kevin Schwantz ;The BEST ,no doubt!!!
He's incredible!!!!
i was - and am still - fan of Kevin... i was 20 in 1988 and saw most of motogp races.
最高のライダーの一人です
I haven't known this period of motorcycle racing... It is really amazing to see ! You also how much it has changed through the years... Very interesting.
Thank you for uploading the nice video!
from Japan
Unico, Grande, Inimitabile Kevin Schwantz
Very beautiful video!!! Thank you very much to post it!! 👍👍👍
My favorite driver all times.....the style..awsome!😀
