Really appreciate the fact how you treat your customers! I admire the fact that you're concerned about your customer safety. And the fact that you don't want to charge them for things that you really don't have to.
That ladies and gentlemen is how hacks bring you stacks!! They didn't want either of the original guys back in their house... Mike impressed them with his knowledge and earned their business... Kudos to you Mike and stressing the need for a Hartford loop...
@@PipeDoctor he is still on life support
But heart getting stronger..gonna be a long recovery
Sad * from the header to the return ! And stevie wonders soilder job !
Thanks Mike…. Came across this video… reminded me of my mom’s old house (radiators)…… some bang on second floor … no copper pipes ..old cast iron pipes….. we drain boiler …. Tune it up ourselves yearly.
Calling out the Hacks, saving you Stacks, When your heating system is down and you don't want to face it, call the Man with the Golden Bracelets!!
I understand the ladies thought process. Spending more money sucks but sure beats the heck out of dealing with a bad plumber again.
Mikey pipes it's why people need your help my home town long Island, America needs more good people like you
Glad to see a fellow honest tradesman , good stuff man
Great diagnosis, and explanation to homeowner about what needs to be corrected , and how the steam system is supposed to operate . Excellent customer service . I’m sure they appreciated your expertise.
Mikey Pipes to the rescue !!
Nice work. Hard to walk away from the other problems but it’s time and $$$
You made their day! Honest days work for honest days pay! Those other hacks screwed them. Nice job as always, Mikey👍
Hey Eddie, cabbage pierogi, kielbasa and pickled herring among other foods Christmas Eve?
@@jeffsmith2022 👍 That’s just the appetizers 😁
Great job for this nice lady. 👍
Saint Mike, your work is never done, my man god bless u for making it right
That poor lady. Electric heaters plugged into Chinese power strips, that’s a fire in the waiting. You’re a good man for even looking at that disaster of a system. I’d probably have been back out that front door before it ever closed the first time, after seeing that place. Interesting information you explained too, I never knew about Hartford.
Chinese heaters on Chinese power strips.
@@GoatzombieBubba good point.
Great job guys I have a newfound respect for what you did there. Everybody doesn't see it but I see it much respect!
Thanks
When I was taught how to replace a steam boiler in the classroom, my teacher said it's simple, step 1 establish your water height in in your new boiler, measure header off the top of that line, measure for your Hartford loop off the bottom of that line and make dam sure your returns are clear and not leaking. That was first day of class, never forgot it in 35 years, lol
Happy Tuesday
Big respect for that repair, hopefully you will get to go back and correct that crappy near boiler piping
Great explanation. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Great video Mike. It's a shame that some people do crappy work like this in people's homes and cost them money. Pure GREED. You got her all fixed up the right way though. TH-cam is a wonderful thing.
I feel fortunate because I'm an HVAC apprentice with steam heat in a home I just bought so I get to learn how all this stuff works along with my apprenticeship 😆
Awesome Job not easy recognizing problems with Steam system ... Hartford loop is one thing that jump out at you that it was missing , but I wouldn't of known the problem with the wet return , Thats cool
You doing a great job brother. I’m in North East queens, glen oaks. I will be giving you a call for my boiler service.
Saint Mike to the rescue! 👏
sometimes cheap is no good good always is good you good
Mike pipes es muy bueno
Keep it up
I always end up purchasing the stuff you promote….places order for thermal camera 😅
I'm just sitting here shaking my head. The stories I could tell you about stuff like that
I should write a book mikey seriously
Soo nice video
Soo good
Guess the inspector thought it was a hot water boiler with the circulator pump on there! I do agree with you 100 percent that his license should be revoked! Very very dangerous without that Hartford loop not being there!!
Probably not licensed
Not bad
This is a prime example of this is why you call a professional like Mikey Pipes. When you have people that don’t know what they are doing. This is what happens. You think you might be saving money because they are cheaper but your not because the job wasn’t done right and then you have to call Mikey to clean up that mess which cost you more money. So the moral of this story call the professionals like Mikey Pipes and you know the job will be done right the first time.
Holy hackman job batman..
I cant begin to say how bad this one is.
I think someone should pay big time for the mistakes.
Nd certainly not the homeowner. Boy shes lucky you showed up ,shes has no idea how bad this could have been..
Sad good folks gettn taken advantage of. Thanks for the video mike
Hey Mikey pipes good job!!! 👍
Your Professionalism Brings you double stacks !
I think hacks bring him double stacks
Best video
Nice
Nice job.
Awesome job Mike providing quality service, not quantity. Love the explanation to the homeowner of previous hacks and remediation Time and patience bring you stacks. Mikey, did they sign up for the maintenance plan?
Love me some Mikey pipes !!
I'd Love me a new Saint Mike sticker !! 🙂
Mikey pipes. Banging on that steam line lot of dust coming off that steam line. Hope it’s not you know what. That dust went everywhere. 😮😢
@@PipeDoctor lol yes I too remember those days in the 80’s. Sniff anything put in front of you days.
That's just crazy!
Good video thank you! There’s no way that plumber should be able to run around installing boilers or dry returns, just so much wrong with the whole thing! How do you install a boiler with no Hartford loop?
Great point!
Mike I don't know about America but here in the uk our fire and rescue services do fire and I think carbon monoxide detectors even I think what we call social services do detectors as well might be worth checking over there.
@@PipeDoctor that customer you told about getting carbon monoxide detectors in the property I don't know if your fire and rescue services do them for free and fit them like ours do here in the uk it's worth having a look in to for the elderly and vulnerable customers that you deal with and you might be able to refer the fire and rescue to the customers.
Here is the British laws regarding carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms www.gov.uk/government/publications/smoke-and-carbon-monoxide-alarms-explanatory-booklet-for-landlords/the-smoke-and-carbon-monoxide-alarm-england-regulations-2015-qa-booklet-for-the-private-rented-sector-landlords-and-tenants
When I was with fire department we would set up at wal mart once a year and give out free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as literature on where to install them.
@@thefathvacguy6341 thanks I was not sure if your fire and rescue done that service like ours do.
@@thefathvacguy6341 ours even fit them for vulnerable and elderly people.
Thoughts on a 1 inch return? I know you’re just replacing whats there but I think its more desirable to have 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 return.
1 inch wet return is good for around 1000 EDR of radiation. More than enough for 99.9% of residential systems. A 1 inch dry return is good for around 400 EDR. Still enough for many houses. My own house has 2 1 inch dry returns, one serves a 1 pipe parallel flow main, the other serves a combined one and two pipe parallel flow main, so has a steam trap between it and the end of the main. The original 1 inch dry returns were installed in the 1880s and were retained when the 2 pipe section was added in the 1930s. Around 380 EDR of radiation total including a ceiling mounted unit heater in the basement. There's no harm in going bigger than 1 inch but in a house, not a commercial building, it's unnecessary most of the time especially with a wet return. With a dry return you might need to go to 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 occasionally, but even then most houses are going to have less than 400 EDR per steam main.
Rocking🔥

That circulating pump is also facing upwards that will soon burn out
Toilet Flappers for $650 a pop, do 5-10 a day and you’re set. No stress Mikey
Impressive
2 elbow swing like the old timers used to say
STEAM HEAT FOREVER
Hiya Gents
In 1935 they ran the wet return on the floor with no pitch.that is why it clogs.they put the copper wet return in the ceiling with a back pitch.people want to finish the basement and dint want the pipes in the way.they want a pretty finished basement. Now they gotta pay the price
Horrific lol
I’m looking at that crooked ass gas meter like dammmmmmmm
Mikey Pipes!!!
Mikey Pipes getting it done again. Just curious what trade do love more, plumbing or HVAC?
Nice couple. Too bad no one told them about boiler safety and maintenance plus replacing CO detectors on a regular basis. That house has had some bad carpentry/drywall over the years
Wow!!!
That’s a nightmare
@@PipeDoctor mike halloran shakes head and laughs 🤷😂
I Always thought on steam, above the water level, you are supposed to only dope joints, no teflon, or am i missing something?
Mike did u put your sticker on that boiler
Woww
OMG 🔥🔥🔥🔥
It seems that quite a few of the of the contractors in the Northeast really do charge highway robbery prices. At least in my rural area of Ontario, most trades are not too marked up.
Like it
Mike in my area there would be around 20 reputable companies looking for these bums! We don't put up with this.
😲 steam... Circulators... Copper piping in odd places outside of walls on top of baseboards inside walls that was very confusing...
Great video, you have some good karma coming your way after that one. Peter keep your stick on the ice. Good work the both of you
Sweet! 👍👍…but seriously, how do these hacks sleep at night? And how do they stay in business? 🤦🏻♂️🤬
Close nipple and a 90 probably woulda gave you what you needed without rerouting the return
Who ever put that thing in needs jail time. Ladys lucky it didn't blow, chimney with no liner? ufff.
Wow, that is horrendous. I've had my share of nightmare jobs from people not flushing the low water cut off or not maintaining it.
#makethetradesgreatagain
Oh I almost forgot, he said none of these are not negotiable
Mikey fucking pipe!!!
I gonna say again!!!
I love this fucking guy!!!
He always get it done right!!
The first time...
Cause hes the fucking master plumber!!
Hes the fucking boss
Hes the GOAT!!!
Hes the LEGEND!!!
🔥🔥🔥
Mike i would just run out the back door opening up a can of worms
That's what's wrong with with the trades today.they want to play with their wagos and sports cars.and charge $225 / hour.set up that pipe vice ,get a 2 inch hand rachet ,oil pot,and tred Dat pipe.lets go MP ,you are way to soft in the middle.and a star drill and lump hammer to anchor the pipe (chain) vice.
👍👍
@@PipeDoctor yes sir
966 thumbs up
Hack from hell!!! 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
What a disaster
@@PipeDoctor seemed like it holy shit
Money money money that's all we hear from plumbers now that being said , I head SAVE YOUR LIFE , BUY ALARMS BUY STEAM VENTS , not really , hey i can sell you this , and sell you that , but SAFETY , save your house from blowing up . New words. Well , they have heat !
Why is there a pump on the steam boiler? Thank you.
mud zone. hydronic loop run below the water level.
If gas meters are inside there who reads them?
You call it in and every few months a guy from the utility comes by and reads it. They are changing those out so they transmit to a guy outside with a reader
That's wild. Here in the Midwest we don't trust people to read a meter. Everything's outside so you can have it read. We also have to pay $18 per month for the meter reading though.
@@bjg6695 that’s incredible. The house where I grew up still has an indoor natural gas meter that a guy rings the bell and goes into her basement to read. It is sort of ridiculous. They are phasing those out in the next few years, I think. Electric is outside for everyone. It’s just natural gas that is indoors and I’ve got a buried propane tank where I live. Propane and oil. In the boonies. The only way to go.
Sorry mike but she got conned by them plumbers.
Mike been killing hacks lately
Hack from hell
How do these stunads get plumbing licenses Mikey?...
Mike you must get tired of cleaning up other people's left behind messes
@@PipeDoctor I say that because there seems to be so much shotty workmanship out there everywhere that you don't see much quality workmanship anymore. I worked in the trade for 35yrs in the Boston Metro area and like you I spent a lot of time cleaning up other people messes and I got very frustrated at times because these guys should know better and know the codes
I am so sick and tired of Fake heating guys NOT installing proper headers BLACK PIPE. THEN NO HARTFORD LOOP? That’s the very first thing I saw as you walked the boiler room. No pitch on the return, No lift on the vent in the corner…. Oy Vey!
They stole their cash??? Are u fucking serious dr pipes?
Dr pipes Those mother fuckers say it ain’t so
Shakin my dick on those scum bags
Stream boilers are so dated and so inefficient so much big steel pipes and massive radiators. Europe plumbing is so ahead of American plumbing in my opinion.
Steam boilers when piped correctly work great there main issue is there very expensive to install let's say if installing all new radiators. Just way tooooo expensive. But these boilers if properly maintained literally will last over 50years. Unlike these suitcase boilers mounted on the wall now you will be lucky to get 15-20 years. Steam is king baby
I know, ihave a great idea, put in fored air ,and get rid of this boiler crap
It wasn't that tight your slowly losing all your strength since you have become a press queen 👑
