- As we celebrate 30 years of World Cup 1992 Lets look back at the finishing moments of a thrilling high score semi final played Between Pakistan and New Zealand. New Zealand batted first posted a very good score of 262. Pakistan chased .In this match young Inzamam turned out to be the hero for Pakistan for his quick knock that turned the tied of the match after Imran and Miandad consolidated the innings after two early wickets.

I have to say, Sunil Gawaskar's commentary in all of the 1992 world cup was extremely good.
He loved the batting and the fighting ability of Javed Miandad.
Honestly speaking Javed Miandad was the unsung hero of the 1992 world cup and no one was as consistent as him throughout the tournament.
It was the losing effort since the beginning of the Pakistan batting. Javaid Mindad on that day was only hope. I watched Pakistan batting ball by ball . When Pakistan lose Imran khan match was gone but Javaid was still there until the Pakistan won .

As a Pakistan fan, this match and the final, I just cannot forget, glimpses at least. We used to wake up at 5 in the morning to watch these games live as little kids. Beautiful times. Unforgettable.

Come on man. Why you are exaggerating things here. So having 6 wickets in hands, 35 runs out of 30 balls . Does it even look like a chilling impossible or even difficult target? No , by any way it was not difficult at all. They were playing under pressure even whole 5 ours are left. Now days any normal batsman would probably need two to three overs to complete that target

No doubt Innzi played a great inning but Miandad kept his and teammates nerves in control . A great guy with a big big heart - if Miandad was not there , chase was not possible . Still goosebumps after 30 years. Highlights does not do justice , watching full match tells you how tense it was
It was very very difficult match . When Imran khan lost his wickets there was no chance for winning the match .
That day Javaid Mindad was only hope and his last ball sixer was reminded too many times .
The pressure so much that even a hard hitter like Waseem Akram was unable to play . Inzamam played good but match still was out of control with 8 runs average.
I have never watched any match so difficult and so tense in my life .
In my opinion this was the Javaid Mindad best inning .

Although Pakistan won this match, New Zealand players won my respect for still observing a great sportsman spirit. Although some New Zealand players were frustrated due to this defeat, nevertheless most of their players and fans still felt proud of their team's performance.

For those criticising Javed Miandad must know that Miandad was fasting during the game as this world cup happened during the holy month of Ramadan. It's not easy to keep going for such a long time and run doubles when you haven't had a drop of water in probably 12 to 14 hours.

Watch closely at 16:37 Moin was run out, but Bucknor called him not out, in today's modern cricket with DRS he would have been gone. Memories of our lifetime! All those here who are saying moin Khan was run out at 16:39, I watched again and again.. The bails dislocated at 16mins 40 secs of this video and the bat was back in crease. Besides there were no third umpire technology but even if it had been moin Khan would be Not Out...

@@ImranKhan-mw8yj 100 % agreed, there are no arguments about those decisions, my intention to point this clip wasn't any doubt about Pakistan victory, it was just click to my eyes while watching this highlights, My previous reply was also a correct answer, but not to tolerate an argument. There are many other wrong decisions in world cup history, that has changed the entire game. These are just few examples, not arguments.
1- Sir Ian Botham caught behind vs. Wasim Akram WC Final 92, Botham was not happy and didn't want to walk back , it seems like it wasn't out, but who knows he was out or not out, umpire Brian Aldridge gave him out.
2- Graham Hick was plumb LBW out very first ball against Meyrick Pringle in 92 WC 2nd semi final vs. SA, and Kepler Wessels was shouting and almost begging to umpire from slip position, but umpire Stephen Randell called him not out, in this modern cricket with DRS support he was 100 % out. That decision changed the entire situation of the game and Hick scored 83 runs, and it helped England to set a big target.
3- Inzamam-ul-Huq caught behind vs. Paul Reiffle in WC Final 99, it wasn't out and ball clearly edge the pads not bat, but umpire David Shephered gave him out, it was a big wicket and it damaged the Pakistan batting lineup, and Pakistan lost the final.
Cricket games use to have occasionally controversial decisions, but thanks to the DRS and TV Umpire technology, it's much better and cleaner now.

Cricket truly was a gentleman's game... even the fans of the losing team would appreciate talent and accept the result... apart from certain English players who alleged ball tampering.
It is a beautiful sport otherwise. This world cup was history in the making and many may not realise it but it changed the course of world events by our leader IK becoming the PM of Pakistan.

30 years later and the result of this match doesnt get any easier to stomach from a NZ fan perspective. 2019 notwithstanding, 1992 was the tournament NZ led throughout and come the semi-final were the favourites to progress to their maiden final, after posting 262 batting first. March 21, 1992, the day Inzamam ul-Haq broke NZ hearts (and certainly led Martin Crowe to many years of torment on the fatal gamble to sit out the Pak batting innings due to his torn hamstring).
What a fame, arguably the greatest WC SF of all time right up there with Aus vs SA 1999 SF. Still remember it like it was yesterday, one of my most favorite cricket memories. It was a lot of fun watching NZ play so well in the 92 WC, their victory against Aus is one of my most favorite games from the WC.

I still remember that semi final I was in 8th standard, the match was starting at 5 am in morning, it was ramadan days, we used woke up in sehri and after fazar we with family saw this match, I have to go to school at 8 am I was really not ready to go to the shool, but my uncle forced mee to go to school, I bunk school and went to my frnd house who was not coming to school because of this match we both enjoy this match, and that was my first bunk of the school was the golden days of my life

I remember watching this when I was in my first year at uni. Our distant uncle would bring his family round and he stayed a few days for the semi final and final, and we used to get up late at night to catch the action. I still remember my mum remarking 7 of the first 4 balls, when Inzi Bhai was batting, all our hopes had dissappeared, but the he played that unbelievable innings to bring us back in it. That six over long on is still IMHO the shot of the 1992 World Cup, and signalled a growing confidence in the team and the nation that this match was not beyond our grasp. RIP uncle, we miss you, such memories this match brings back!

Wright was a good batsman but not a good captain but he was a good coach . Gower was a good batsman but not a good captain . If Crowe fit to field then kiwis would had won this semis . Great batch ran him out as sub while Crowe bat with a sub when the innings was almost over so he missed his 100 but his luck against AUS in previous match when got caught Healy of McDermott umpire denied it when he was on 94 then he scored 100 not out Boon also scored 100 there but here his sub runner greatbatch ran out for 91
I think this is one of those 'Standards' for a good One day chase of any era ... Have one Batsman like Javed to play you all the way till the end and have a couple of accelerators in the middle to up the momentum in the middle and the end .

Javed was initially dropped from World Cup squad, Salim Malik was made vice captain but after very poor performance of Pakistani batsmen in practise matches before the start of world cup he was, unwillingly, sent to Australia. There was just one practice match left vs Sri Lanka. Javed was told to show his fitness and form otherwise he could be sent back to Pakistan. Javed scored 80 plus runs and grab the place in final squad. Rest is history.
He was sent the then PM of Pakistan against the wishes of Imran Niyazi's.

There is hardly any doubt in the fact that Javed Miandad was an exceptional cricketing brain and an extraordinary team player and a uaeful player in most of the situations. Thats why he is highly respected especially among the players of his time. U can easily single him out as a match winner.
How the game has changed so much. 35 of 30 would be possibly done in 2 overs nowadays with all the power hitting. Then when a boundary was hit it actually was exciting and something to talk about.
when pressure mounts, all the power hitting disappears...
in last world cup target of 240 was too much for india in semi against NZ... we can say now a days they will chase 240 in 40 0vers.
