▼Synopsis
Osome is an ex-geisha performer who lost her parents in a fire when she was 6-years old. She then is separated from her older brother, who goes missing. While she tries to investigate the fire that killed her parents, an officer, Yoshikawa reveals that her father used to be a shogunate spy. Osome decides to become a spy herself under Yoshikawa, to find the man who killed her parents and to seek out her lost brother.

I'm in tears due to sadness over the very poignant story of a lost brother who lived anonymously in the same vicinity as his sister, then decides to disappear from her life again without giving her closure. It's very cruel considering she's been looking for him half her entire life. And I'm also saddened over the fact that this was the last in the series. I'm really gonna miss that unique and impeccably beautiful face of Mayumi, and her impeccable portrayal of a geisha with so many talents. This is the very first time I've encountered a period drama with a "feel good" ambience. So endearing this series I wish there was more, too bad I'm several decades late in discovering this. Thank you so much S vs N for sharing. Honto ni, arigatou gozaimasu.
At least they tied it up with a bow, and they had a plan, unlike Zankuro, where late decisions caused chaos, I think. I think the brother left because of some combination of: he did not want his soiled presence to be part of his sister's life; he had now come to the attention of the police and the roofer, and if his being alive became known, he and his associates would be in danger.
Well, that's that. We mustn't weep because Undercover Geisha is over, but be joyful that we got to see it. :) Thanks to S vs N for uploading this charming little series. Now to re-watch it!

Mayumi Wakamura was such a beautiful and gifted actress. She was married for 4 years to Kanehiro Ono who was the leader of a controversial sect of Buddhism. He was a huge man (fat) and 14 years older than Mayumi. He wrote the book _The Law of Salvation._ He died of sudden liver failure. She also played the Geisha Tsutakicki in the Zankuro series.

This final episode has fantastic details in every scene - in every actor's dialogue, in the background you can see bystanders or children playing in the streets of Edo.
