- In sixteenth-century Padua, Hortensio loves Bianca, the youngest daughter of Baptista. However, Baptista will not allow the two to get married until his eldest daughter, the extremely headstrong Katherine, is betrothed. This task seems impossible because of Katherine's shrewish demeanor. Their prayers seem to have been answered with the arrival from Verona of the lusty Petruchio, whose father has just passed, leaving him to travel the world and marry. Having not yet met her, Petruchio agrees to court Katherine when he is told of her beauty and wit. Petruchio is even more excited at the prospect of marrying this "wildcat" of a woman after meeting her. Katherine will have none of it, even if it means her sister's spinsterhood, but has no choice but to marry him.

Rendkívül szórakoztató rendezés! A színészeken sem érződik, hogy lassan 100 éves lesz a film. Pici vicces ötletek, egyszerű megoldások, mégis célba érnek. Nem kell semmi túlzás bele, elég maga Shakespeare. Köszönet.

this was so much fun to watch,
I was laughing from beginning to the end.Every actor on this film had perfect timing especially when Ms.katherine first started throwing everything from her room. at everybody ,their acrobatics while dodging out of the way was super hilarious. Taming of the Shrew,got a really nice spoonful of her own nasty medicine .Bravo !!👏👏Bravisimo!!👏👏. Sir William Shakespeare. What a delightful play...

Для своего времени неплохо. Возможно тем, кто изучает историю кинематографа будет интересно, но фильм с Касаткиной в роли Катарины или даже фильм с Бартоном и Элизабет Тейлор безусловно взрослее, сняты в эпоху талантливых актеров и режиссеров, а потому смотреть их гораздо приятнее

Чересчур гротескно снято,на мой взгляд. Актеры, конечно,на высоте. Неподражаемая Мэри Пикфорд,и великолепный Дуглас Фэрбенкс. Но ещё очень хорошо чувствуется влияние немого кино с его акробатикой и пластикой.
Это придаёт изюминку, яркость выражения. Интересно ведь!

This is brilliant made me laugh haven't in a while. Never seen Ms Pickford in a non silent film role she did brilliantly and Mr Fairbanks too not sure about the rest of the cast but it was early days of film and sure a lot of directors were new as everyone was then. thank you :) CCC

Although I've been a fan of black and white films, for some reason I could never sit through this one. However, although the color is not perfect, what is there gives the film a whole new dimension. And for once I'm enjoying the film.
Если хотите черно-белую версию, посмотрите старый фильм СССР " Укрощение строптивой". Вам должно понравиться ,фильм 1956 года. Он не такой гротескный как этот.

Переигрывание, аффектация, театральщина -- все, что мы думаем о немом кино, здесь есть. И учитывая эти условности столетней давности, кино смотрится на ура!
Весь арсенал приемов немого кино буквально выстреливает в двух финальных сценах, добавляя Шекспиру еще одно измерение, высвечивая непроговоренные эмоции героев, объясняя, как и почему случилось укрощение и кто кого вообще укротил. Отлично решено.

The zenith of the Pickfair years. For once, colorization does help this particular film. This is a 1966 re-release, and the color came late than that.

La película va de menos a más, pero se queda corta. Para ser un filme de inicios del sonoro, cumple, pero los actores aún no abandonan los ademanes del cine mudo. Douglas Fairbanks hace de Douglas Fairbanks y no de Petrucchio casi todo el filme, pero se recupera en algunas partes. Mary, comienza como si fuera una peli silente, pero mejora y al final logra un resultado aceptable. Agradezco el colorear la película, es más agradable así que verla en blanco y negro. La adaptación al cine es regular y se queda corta, como mencioné. Los demás actores, igual que los protagonistas, gesticulan como en el mudo y la grabación del sonido los obliga a frasear con exageración, aunque se nota la remasterización y debo decir que es muy buena. Tengo la sospecha de que le falta un rollo, porque la escena final está muy forzada.
