    DO NOT USE a ball hone on a plated cylinder, or you will ruin the plating, use a scotch-brite pad and some lubricant like wd40 will work fine,. you're only supposed to use a hone on a steel sleeved cylinder like on banshees and alot of older bikes have steel sleeved cylinders. the way to check is get a small magnet, if it sticks to the cylinder wall then you have a steel sleeve, if it doesn't then you have a plated cylinder.

    I had to send my cylinder out. I called alot of machine shops and motor sports stores stores in my area. No one could touch it or they wanted over $500 for the cylinder and a top end kit. I guess you need a diamond tip bore becouse it's nickel plated (1999 yz125).

  • @OGKILLa9365
    @OGKILLa9365 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Also make sure you use a torque wrench when you tighten down the cylinder nuts, if you don't one side can be ue-even by a bit, and tighten to whatever torque spec the service manual says, or you can probably find a free service manual online..most yz125's have the same torque specs.

    Only way to learn is research and then jumping into it. I remember being 10 years old working on my old Yamaha 60 JT1. And you get a thumbs up just because of your hair. If anyone doesn't get his gentleman a thumbs up/like on his hair alone you are a hater. Good video. W.F.O.

    Do half assed work for a half assed bike. $40 is cheap considering you don’t have to buy the tool and you’ll know it’ll be right. Join a forum and do a lot of reading. Or watch videos on how to fix it. It’s not like you don’t have the resources or people to help you out

    Given the care you took during the rebuild who would've guessed that it it wouldn't start. I'm not sure which part of the vid was my favorite - the the parking lot hone or your knowledge of spark plugs.
    Did anyone else notice the popularity of. the #69?
    I enjoyed this so much I had to watch it twice.

    Wow. Look at all that dirt waiting to fall down into your motor. Always pressure wash first. Anytime you blow one up split the cases. You got metal shavings in the lower end. Won't last long. Live and learn brother. You don't need a hone. You need cylinder replated.

  • @RSPYT

      Tucker Racing I was being supportive. I think you should calm down a bit before you blow a gasket dude. I was just saying it isn’t always a must to re-hone a bore. And I wished him good luck with his float issues. That’s all it will be with the over flowing petrol. A stuck float. By his comment back he took my comment how I meant it, with good intent.

  • @connerfleury7

    Im not trying to sound like a jerk off. Im just trying to help you out like everyone did for me when i started wrenching. First off. You used the wrong hone. Ur supposed to use a ball hone. The one you used is meant to take material off. Not cross hatch. Depending how long u ran it in their for and how wore the cylinder is u couldve done some damage. Second for the gas shooting out the top of the piston. It sounds like u torqued the head to one side when u torqued it if at all. Do not ride it the way it is. U will heat it up causing the head to warp. Some with the cylinder depending how bad. U have to torque the head in a star pattern like a car. Skipping over every other nut the first time and repeating that process for the second set. The torque spec on the head is 25ft ibs i do a little over and like to creep up to it. For the cylinder. Tighten each one snug. And across to make sure they are even then with a box end torque to about 30ft ibs. Usually reasonably tight with some power behind it. Not like reffing on it but enough where to get it any tighter you would. Also replace all gaskets an o rings now. U compressed them so they wont go back to form and may blow out now that their torqued funny. I wish you would reach out to me. I could assist you and talk u throw it and answer any questions u would have. I could also get u parts really cheap and can find any parts u need. Good luck

    85 weight oil is a little thick for your crankcase. May work but in my opinion I'd use a lighter oil. and I hope you don't use that for pre mix. yamalube r is my favorite.

    • @patrickkohlert9582
      @patrickkohlert9582 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      roostmx is correct. 8 and 9 is the temperature on the plug. So 9 runs hotter than 8!

    • @steveringer7143
      @steveringer7143 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The numbers on the plug is the heat range. Its not how hot the plug fires its how much heat the plug retains at operating temps. Also the lower the number the hotter it is. A br8es is hotter than a br9es plug..

    • @MNRDR-dw1xt
      @MNRDR-dw1xt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ngks an 8 is hotter than a 9

    • @quentinrance8974
      @quentinrance8974 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roostmx - you've got it reversed, on an NGK the 8 will be hotter than the 9 (don't sweat it, we can all be al title dyslexic some days). The 8 or 9 can be run in YZ125 depending on a several factors such as jetting settings, premix ratio, outdoor temp/humidity. One place that really tied it all together (for me to understand) was the carb and jetting section on the Kawasaki KDX forum (and they directly discuss different plug options). Good luck with the rebuild.

    They will need the jug, piston and rings at the shop to hone your cylinder properly. Yes it has to be done. Don't use a scotch pad or what ever ppl are telling you. It took 2 weeks to get my cylinder honed at a local shop. They won't do it quick because it's such a low paying job and they have higher paying clients ahead of you. When you reassemble you need to check the ring end gap as well or it will never be right. Also reassemble with 2 stroke oil on everything. Oh man you have to hone WITH oil. You honed it dry and it probably messed it up pretty bad. Also I think you need to use a ball hone, not the one you used.

  • @joshualawrence634
    @joshualawrence634 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ur not supposed to hone nikasil... if u do it takes off the nikasil coating which makes the friction levels between the ring and cylinder increase causing excessive ring wear and ur bikes top end will not last as long

  • @farmingsim2229
    @farmingsim2229 6 ปีที่แล้ว
