New Field No. 8 I broke down and got one even though I didn't "need" it...

  • Lady Liberty Stacker posted a video about a Field unboxing at just the right moment for me, so that means my three or four year long wait is over and I got my own. Here, I unbox it and give it two seasonings of my own..
And before it's mentioned....Yes, I do know that the on-burner seasoning is not the traditional 'upside down in the oven' method. I didn't take it that far because it already had three coats. It wasn't like it had been stripped bare from a restore

I bought a Field #8 a couple of years ago, and it has been great.
At first, I didn’t like spending that much money, but now I realize it’s worth every penny!!
    It’s my favorite pan.
    You made an excellent investment!!👍

Field is the ultimate 👍 in bare cast iron category. They take up seasoning really well and not very heavy and yet sears like any heavy cast iron like Lodge

Hey my friend. Good to see you again. Looks like a nice pan. Had no idea you could condition a pan. Learn something new every time I watch you. Huge like and hope all is well your way.

Hey Titus my friend good to see you again. I understand. That’s one of the things I like about the diversity of hobbies and interests. I don’t know anything about angling and you might not know much about cast-iron or cooking, and that’s the beauty of it. I appreciate all of your videos because of their family oriented and high-quality production but most of all the scenery, editing and general vibe. Thanks for watching my friend

Amazing what 2 additional coats can do! Me greedy and wanted to use it right out of the gate! lol That said, thank you for the shout out, it is sincerely appreciated! I liked your comparison of your different number 8s - very helpful for those just starting out in cast iron. The one thing I noticed AFTER I did my video was the very subtle milled surface Field does so their skillets hold seasoning - very fine circular pattern. That is something Stargazer didn't do or at least they didn't when they started making their skillets. I understand they now have a surface that will hold seasoning. Even so, once one tries Field Company skillet, there is no going back! I like that they compare in weight to Griswold too! 😊👍

Thanks! Yes it is gorgeous. I might film myself, wife or daughter doing the maiden cook on it. I told my daughter just the other day, "Hey did you see the new skillet I got you? Well, it's mine for now, but it will be yours". I'm 55 lol. Yeah so it will be interesting to see which becomes our favorite. So far it's the Griswold. It too is light, smooth and heats up quick. Can't believe I found it at an antique shop and it was not warped. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I got a #8 about a year and a half ago (put onto it by Cowboy Kent Rollins). I just "broke down" and got a #10 - it was delivered today.

Thanks Craig! Yeah I hope it lasts all the way through my daughter into her children if she has any. If not it may become an unclaimed heirloom and someone will buy it in an antique store 20, 40 or 60 years from now. Food taste better on them because of the iron. One of my skillets is 60 years old approximately and the other is 80 years old. There’s a historical fascination to me is endless - always wondering what family had the skillet, where they were, how much they used it and what they were like. With the old skillets, it’s like I’m cooking on a piece of history. It’s like traveling through time.

Nice!!! I love this! I'm SUPER partial to smooth cast iron. We have both and I always gravitate to the smooth. Also love that they're making them a bit lighter weight.
PS - we have a big skillet that's not smooth that we really like EXCEPT for that fact. So I thought sometime when the weather's warmer maybe I could bring it over (along with my cheesecake 😁) and you could maybe smooth it out?

I've never heard of Field. Good lookin' skillet. I live in Tennessee so I always go to the Lodge Factory and get new cast iron. I also have BSR. I'll have to check out this brand.

    • @HobiesGarageBBQ
      @HobiesGarageBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah check them out. It took me five years to justify the price but I do prefer the smoother surface of a Field as opposed to a Lodge. And I love Tennessee! I grew up there, although I am now in Michigan

Do you season all your cast iron this way? This is much simpler than the oven method.

If it's a stripped down skillet (from restore), I do the oven method once only, then the rest I season like in this video. Thanks.
