Can't Catch Any Bass? Fish for Bluegill Instead! (Realistic Fishing)

- Can't catch any bass? Maybe try fishing for bluegill instead! Realistic Fishing means trying not to get skunked. So when I can't catch any bass, I turn my attention toward panfish like bluegill and sunfish. That way I can still get that fishing practice in and I don' go home feeling like a failure. After striking out on bass, I go to Skeletor Park and fish a float rig with Gulp minnows. I catch a handful of bluegill in the 6-7 inch range, and also catch one jumbo 8+ incher. Spring can be a tricky time to catch bass. One day they are biting, and the next day they can be impossible to catch. #fishing

Fishing for panfish is awesome. Love using 4lb test with float, small split shot and some Gulp Red Wrigglers. Saving the Gulp minnows for when I run out of worms.

Speaking of crappie, I have a little local crappie tourny to do this Saturday. I picked up some natural and neon green gulp minnows and I'm going to try your technique with a bobber but just a little modified. 👍🏻

For sure man, fishing for Panfish is the way to go when the rest aren't biting. I went out the other day for Wipers and Largemouth and got nothing. Grabbing the panfish gear as soon as the wind calms down in a couple of days, then it's on!
I've been doing the same thing the last few days; waiting out the bass-spawn. Got 13 sunfish the other day, 7 more today and a crappie for good measure. Having a blast!
Always take my dropshot rig and gulp minnows in case the bass aren’t biting. Usually get bluegill, crappie or the occasional catfish. Catfish is fun on a smaller rig.

Bluegill are so much fun. My first fish was a gill. Took my 5-year-old great-granddaughter fishing and her first fish was naturally, a bluegill. She's hooked now for life as we all were after a good first day of catching bluegill.
I love how Alex goes straight for bluegills if he cant try other lures or different color lures for bass or try for other types of fish but I still love how he can always catch some pretty nice size fish. Alex is a beast yall. Love the channel realistic fishing.
Have you ever tried for carp? I can catch them on those real nice nightcrawlers.

nice! trout magnets, gulp minnows, and tiny craws n hellgrammites are my go to baits when I’m after panfish when the bass bite gets tough. KIR 👌🏼😎🎣

From what I remember I think you’re further south than me but for me up here in PA they have been biting a bass jig deep. 8-12 feet deep. And it’s awesome because I never really fish deep.

I feel like all my recent trips have been the same way. Fail to even see sign of a bass, so tie on a fly or gulp minnow lol. Fun as can be. Great catches brother. Particularly pretty long ear sunfish. KIR!!!
That long ear sunfish was beautiful. Nice jumbo bluegill. I haven’t caught much of those so far. Mainly bream & war mouths. I’ve been seeing a few too many snakes as well 😳😳 keep it Realistic

Been fishing for bluegills and perch with a 4 ft. Ultralight rod lately and it’s been fun as shit haha. Caught a small bullhead on it somehow the other day and it felt like a monster

Always have a rod setup for panfish when I'm bass fishing. It's hard to get skunked, if you're trying for several different species of fish.

we had an 80 degree day yesterday so i went out to one of my local ponds thinking i might maybe catch one... and i caught about a 3lb really nice bass. i was so excited. on the red eye shad too. i just realized this pond had shad in it a couple weeks ago so i threw a white bait and it worked ◡̈

I am new to fly fishing and I spent 10 hours yesterday and caught nothing, I go out today and start using night crawlers and caught perch and bluegill, my daughter caught a really nice rock bass!

Caught my first texas rig bass yesterday. On a soft plastic crayfish. Prob 1/2-3/4 pound Then caught nothing for like five hours. Switched to a rooster tail and caught seven trout. Got a sunburn. Great day fishing.

Have you tried the Gulp crickets? I can't find any 1 inch Gulp minnows in my area, any other size is no problem
I tried once or twice. They are too big for the panfish around here
I haven't caught a bass since Sunday. I had some smallmouth jumping 15ft in front of me this morning... they weren't interested in my green pumpkin stick bait. 😟

Honestly just had a really bad Day fishing zero bites for 5 hours so I said screw it and I walked to a little pond that I had never been to before that I found online and for the next 2 hours I caught nothing but bluegill back to back as soon as my hook hit the water I was hooked onto one. I was using that exact same date with the minnow body. Cheered me right up

I caught a little tiny minnow while fishing an original rapala for bass. Somehow, a treble hook speared him. I was baffled to say the least.
It's harder for me to catch a bluegill then a bass! Went out a few times specifically trying to catch some bluegill but I haven't caught one in 6 years!

Bluegills are very tasty
Pan fishing is what I learned on, that and trout fishing. It’s still really fun to me today and I caught my first even green sunfish in a creek outside my hotel!
