The moment we heard Wally passed all of us in the Brantford forums and facebook groups organized it. This recording only shows a small fraction of it... our salute to our dear friend and neighbor went on for many kms... from memorial drive all the way to mnt pleasant rd. We wanted to say good bye the best way we could. We loved Wally, he was a friend and the best damn neighbor anyone could ever ask for.

I live in brantford and when I was a child he invited my mother and I over. He showed me around and gave me a bunch of hockey memorabilia, he did this for so many people around the community

It's just who Wally was, he was super proud of his Wayne, and loved to share him with everyone especially us kids. I've been in there a couple times as well, knew Wally pretty well... today was just a really hard day because he was just the sweetest guy and in a sense he was like a Grampa to so many of us.... i have to assume you were one of us giving him a final salute?

After reading all of these great stories about Walter all I can think is how much he was like my Dad. My Dad may not have had a famous son but he loved hockey, his family, his country (he fought in Korea) and he was the most humble honest person I've ever met. When I was a teen and in my early twenties my friends would come over even if I wasnt there to hang with my Dad.

My dad would talk to him at the Brantford Mall for many years Then one day my dad saw Walt and motioned for him to come over. My dad didn’t understand how I knew who he was. I told him “ Dad...that’s Walter Gretzky...Wayne’s dad!” My dad just said he never knew. They would just sit and talk on the bench about life and the world etc. That’s how down to earth Walt was. He d never pull that move. My dad died 10 years ago and when Walt died it brought up some old memories for me. My condolences on the Gretzky family and RIP Walt...

This is crazy, all the people standing and not social distancing! My kids missed the Santa parade because it was canceled because of covid, protesters are being tackled down town because of covid but when it comes to hockey covid doesn’t matter? Church service is closed but this guy is talking without a mask, what a double standard! Will never support hockey because of this

Wayne was here in Ontario, I believe right in Brantford for 21 days prior to the death of Walter who fell and broke his hip on Feb.13th. so he did quarantine. He did however have to get an exception to come to Canada. His wife and children were not able to come. I hope that helps. My condolences on the loss of your mother.

Question for Turdeau - why doesn't Wayne have to spend 3 days in a hotel and 14 days isolation - special treatment for the so-called "elite"????

He's been with his family next to his dying father for the past few weeks or so. Why do you assume you have all the information based on this short news clip? I watched the funeral so that's how I know what happened. You are still alive, count your blessings. Rest in peace to Mr. Gretzky.

Wayne was here in Ontario right in Brantford for 21 days prior to the death of Walter so he did quarantine. Walter broke his hip on Feb.13th and I believe the regulation for the 3 days in a hotel had not yet been put in place. If it was I'm sure Wayne would have followed the rules but he got an exception to return to Canada as a Canadian because Walter was ill. His wife and children were not able to come. Exceptions have been given to other people who are not what you refer to as " elite ". For example, couples have been able to be reunited and have gotten married. Another example on the news was a couple expecting a child and they were able to reunite. If you follow the news you'll hear about the exceptions.
