    If you're thinking about becoming a day trader, then my perspective may either help or prevent that decision from taking place. I'll give you a rundown on what day trading is and the prospects for making money as a day trader (if any money is to be made at all).
    🔑 Key Insight: "They get this elation." 12:12
    Day trading is a financial strategy that involves buying and selling financial instruments within the same trading day. The objective is to profit from short-term price fluctuations in the market. This approach requires a solid understanding of the markets, quick decision-making capabilities, and a high tolerance for risk, given that market conditions can change rapidly within a single day. It's important to note that while day trading can offer significant returns, it also carries the potential for substantial losses.
    If you're interested in day trading, watch this video to be disillusioned and receive sound info. The benefits and drawbacks of day trading vary and may surprise you. Furthermore, I'll also give you some tips on how to stay safe while day trading so you can make it a worthwhile endeavor.

    Thank you for sharing. There is the old yarn that if all of the wealth contained in the stock market were re-balanced today equally amongst all investors, within a short period of time all of the wealth would be re-distributed back at the same proportion that existed before the re-balance occurred.

    very good info! ...5% of people, that's 1 out of 20. Like Toby mentioned, risk management is a huge issue. And most traders don't even understand what risk management is, or they think they do when they don't. they're also model/system hopping or chasing the next furu when they should really be working on themselves.

    Well said Toby, it is an important message to deliver! I would add that in addition to selling covered calls, I believe selling cash secured puts as a method to acquire long-term equities at your desired price is a great use of options.

      Well said! They are part of something we call the wheel strategy. If you are willing to buy the stock, sell the PUT and get both:-) Thank you for the comment.

    Options Trading is great if you spread trade and know how to adjust. It’s way less risky than buying stock. It only becomes really risky if you are selling naked shorts. Yes, a bull put could get you in trouble if you don’t do it to fundamentally good stocks and you do too many contracts especially on high-prices stocks but that where you have to know what you’re doing. A Bull Put can be a great way to acquire stocks for less than the market is asking.

    Toby - love your style and philosophy! Buying an option, you can only win in one direction. If you do a credit spread, you can win in a down, up and sideways direction. Sure, you don’t get the huge profits but you get steady profits - like covered calls! And, if you get put out on a Bull Put, then you do covered calls and reduce the cost basis further and maybe even buy a put if the signals show a downward move and let the short call pay for the Put - Collar Trading.

    • @TobyMathis
      @TobyMathis  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed. I am not against spreads per se - so long as you are mitigating risk. They are also quite a bit more complex than a new investor is going to be competent to implement successfully. I think the bigger point is that trading is so dang sexy and alluring that people get a greedy and chase. Usually ends up poorly (in my experience and as the reports tend to detail).

    I am the exact person you made this video for. I haven't lost money yet but I have found myself doubling down with a couple hundred thousand dollars on a single stock. Sometimes it pays off, other times I take a loss. It is gambling. Luckily, I don't have a gambling problem but since I began swing trading, I found myself starting to day trade, I can see a progression. This video is what I needed to see. Thanks.

    My advice as an investor since 30 years: if you don't study economics your whole life and everything about company life you won't be able to stay off the sell button when there's a depression or recession. It's about time in the market and not timing the market.
    My vision about day traders: Renaissance Technologies uses insurance policies to protect themselves against big losses. I can't believe day traders will stay profitable throughout the decades without blowing up their accounts.
    In short: it's not worth it if you're not passionate.

    Very informative video. There are definitely real traders out there that make money. It's a very low percentile. I'd disagree that it's gambling(it is if your emotions get to you, to take the wrong trade setups). It's a probability game(math) in the long run, along with mentality being the biggest factor. I trade spot forex, it's easier than stocks for sure. Lots of people are fake in the trading industry. If they sell signals/education(course) it's an automatic red flag.
    Prop firms have changed the headspace since 2015. Have to be careful of US firms, as there is big regulation occurring right now. UAE firms (would be a better option for now). They say about 95/100 people fail the challenge from these firms. So I'd agree with you that only 1-5% make it profitable over the long run. Definitely a real fact no doubt.

    • @OurNewestMember
      @OurNewestMember 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But what influences the probabilities? Asset price distributions don't occur naturally in the ether -- they have various artificial influences.

    I once heard that your odds of finding a winning Lottery ticket blowing down the street are , about ,, the same as you actually buying that ticket
    seems the same can be said of daytrading,, ,, or even the stock Market itself,, running on human emotion and feelings,, anyone can start a rumor of a certain company ,,or commodity ,, and see then what happens to the entire Global system of a certain holding,, or stock,, ,, I could say that Canada ,,, because of Global warming,,, will be the Next place to Grow oranges,, ,, and becasue of our devalued dollar,,, orange juice will become so cheap as to worth less than water,, some will believe it ,,, and sell all thier stock in Orange Juice,, and others will not,,

      Capturing losses for taxes can be simple or very complex -- it can vary widely depending on the circumstances.
      Income-based tax rates can also vary widely depending on the product, timeframe, jurisdiction, etc.
