Interesting video Mark. I did wonder when I setup my nano tank about using a bottle for a top off resovoir. Drill a small hole in the lid and turn it upside down and affix somehow. I tried it with a tuppawear box drilled a small hole in it and rest it on the corner of the tank. It worked ok to a point there wasn't enough pressure to push the water through the hole. Looking forward to the corals👍. Softies and a macro algae tank would look very natural.
Thanks for watching! Yeah it does the trick, been watching it the past week, theres normally a few glugs at once when the pressure in the bottle overcomes the pressure on the short tube but it's still a small volume of water each time. Thats the plan, filmed a bit today which will go up soon on stocking the tank, there are 3 rocks, 2 loose on the bigger structures and one on the sand bed planned for different macro algaes so they can be removed for trimming, hopefully good for the pods, nitrates and phosphates 🤞
Hi, thanks for your video, it looks great. UUIDEAR was the original manufacture. Coco cola bottle would be fit the bottle if you cannot find a suitable bottle in your local. :)
Dude you’re blowing my mind! 😂😂😂 Seriously though, very useful video! Good to shout out where you saw the idea as well. Could definitely use something like that for holidays! Might need some slightly bigger bottles though! 😂 could definitely use it to increase my reservoir capacity though! In terms of failure fantastic but could definitely get clogged with a piece of food floating by at the wrong moment so not impossible to fail but certainly unlikely and much less likely that electrics! I’ve already had a unit with a good rep let water in and fail.
Haha brilliant! 😂 Spent a lot of time researching all sorts before actually setting the tank up 😂 Yeah Jake at reef builders uses all gravity ATO's with an RO float valve bit more complicated than this but simpler than electric solutions. I think over filling 0.5-1l on my tank wont cause much of a fluctuation at all and to be fair would potentially just use 2 of these myself and wouldn't really leave the tank more than a week without someone checking on it and could refill them. Yeah my only dislike of my 50 gallons sump is it has a 10l or so ATO 🤦♂️😅 so would at minimum want to expand it a bit or just use a 25l or bigger container hidden off to the side. Yeah the Evian bottles are the only ones with threads that work with these units as far as I know and 1.5l seems to be the largest size? Yeah that has potential for food or particles but pretty low risk I think 🤞 and wouldn't fail on at least, thanks for watching buddy! 👍
Some epoxy and air line tube and you’ve got a completely home made variant for any bottle... I could possibly fit 2x 10L bottles on top of my 10L reservoir tripling the capacity...wouldn’t need a stand, they would just sit on the lip of the glass...
@@DadHD exactly mate, thats was what I was saying in the video about a sealed container and some tubing was trying not to go off on a massive tangent about a DIY version though 😅 and for £6 odd maybe £13 for 2 it keeps it super simple and meets most folks needs if getting to 1 weeks worth, when we can travel again....? 🙄 I will actually have a canopy on this build and could end up sitting a 5l container on the top with airline would just need to secure it to the tank rim so it sits at the right level. Yeah I might do the something similar for my 50 gallons sump later on 😁👍
These were off Ali Express searching "aquarium lid clips" into amazon and AliExpress will give you a lot of options, on my XL200 I made the polycarbonate lid bigger so it sits on the glass and flush with the edges not inside it and looks cleaner, see below link, thanks for watching! th-cam.com/video/k_VhEWWh-Q4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2xBY40jalUpkV5UH
Yeah he's not for everyone, his little ato video was a good few years ago and did the job but was a bit flimsy for my liking, now you can get these for about £6 less than $10 they are perfect 👍 thanks for watching!
Thank you for the very helpful information.

Aww that's brilliant, the evian bottles done well, but a 2L bottle would be a possible upgrade for a longer holiday or I add a 2nd, thanks! 😁

where did you get those clips for the lid to rest on?

Where to buy this?
Hi . What is the smallest size of the bottle fot this. I am using with 0,5 liters bottle and not working fine.
This should still work OK, as long as the tubes are cut to the right length and one is longer than the other, hope you managed to get it working OK 🤞
"King" of diy is a no go ....bb
