Its a Shmup but not a Normal + Not really a "Bullet-Hell"shmup, but its sick, 3 lives*, no continues, a stupid shield you get after collecting 100 blue orbs ! that only shrugs off 1 small bullet, bigger ones + Lasers are deadly, AND after you died you loose all weapons and start the Level from the beginning..... Have Fun ^^
I am so proud of my childhood self for being able to legitimately beat Battle Toads! It took a LOT of practice, and parts of it really was more difficult with one of my brothers playing with me, but it was very fun.
@@Gaze73 I feel like those games are on two different levels. Meat Boy has very precise platforming but gives the player infinite lives and the levels are really short, while Battletoads has much easier gameplay but you only get 3 continues. To me, Battletoads feels more difficult because of that, as it takes so much more time to actually get to practicing the level you're stuck on once you get far into the game and you don't have very much room for failure, whereas in Super Meat Boy, you can just take it level by level and all the levels are pretty short. I _did_ get stuck on the very final level of the main story for a long time, though, and if you count the Dark World levels in, then Super Meat Boy's infinitely harder. Still, I think if you can beat Battletoads (without cheating), you can absolutely beat Super Meat Boy as well.

yeah whoever was playing that vvvvvv game and the lost levels really sucked and kept making the same stupid mistakes repeatedly. it was probably the same person playing those 2 games.

I still play this game religiously! Im pissed, it took me years to complete that game. I had some really awesome ninja cinimas of team missions.. and then the data got corrupted so I had to start over last month. 😭
@@kingenderdragona4791 It is possible to beat Tetris. There is a TAS run that reached the end. The game crashes at level 237. This crash is considered the end of the game, same as in Pacman. It is absolutely humanly impossible though. In fact, the vast majority of levels in the game are humanly impossible and haven't been reached by anyone.
I was expecting a Hollow Knight mention, with the gods and glory dlc, it easy surpasses games like Cuphead. Super meat boy could have been a fine addition too.
Its not on the list, cuz the general game isnt that hard. Its only P5 and some of them with bindings. I think they meant games that r hard to beat the regular game, thats all.

@@blackswan7098 They had megaman on the list because of achievements, I think it would be fair to count a dlc as part of the game, especially considering absolute radiance is easily THE hardest boss in any videogame. That's not even taking into consideration beating the pantheon 5 on radiant. I expected hollow knight to at least be top 5 after seeing the games on the list. Also it's still a massive part of the game in terms of play time.

I mean, any game is hard when you play like in the video. Simon intentionally died to the dragon, running into easily avoidable enemies, unnecessary jumps, meatboy just ran into a buzz saw over and over again. The list also should have included Wings of Vi. That game is challenging. Way harder than Cuphead and Celest.
The worst part about Contra Hard Corps is that it was so hard and frustrating, it was actually addictive. I even feel like I want to play it again because of this video.

I honestly don’t understand what people like so much about Celeste. It had a cookie cutter story of “overcoming and acknowledging you weakness to become a better person”. What is so great about the game that it distinguishes itself so much?
Bit disappointed that the original Rayman didn’t make the list. Made me go crazy having to 100% just to get to the final stage and boss, good thing that for a game from 1995 it was absolutely gorgeous to look at.
The reason I think games like GD and Osu don't make these lists is probably that their difficulty is derived from community content and not the base game, but that you also get a choice in what difficulty of levels/charts you play at all times. With Games like Osu and GD, the top levels/charts are completely nuts and easily trump these games. But these games are pretty hard throughout and you can't really do anything about it, whereas GD and Osu have easy stuff as well as hard stuff, you get a lot of choice in how hard you want the game to be by choosing what you play. I do feel music/rhythm games just get overlooked for these kinds of lists in general anyway tho, but I digress. If GD did throw you straight into top extreme demons (as official levels) and nothing else, then it would easily place 1st on this list by miles.
We count beating the game. And according to top players "beating the game" is to beat atleast some of the hardest levels and finish all of the main game stuff.
And isnt that a good thing that it has a difficulty chart? The moment we count are the hardest moments in the game. For example you can play on easy mode for cuphead. We dont count that. We count the expert difficulty as its difficulty because we choose the hardest parts of the game to determine the difficulty.
very late but as someone who has beaten the first and last dark souls game as well as sekiro, beating only the main levels without playing any online levels and "completing" the game is harder than all of them.
Actually, the top one would in fact be a mobile Game: GEOMETRY DASH When you get yo the hardest levels (aka the Extreme Demons) like Astral Divinity or Bloodlust you see how fucking hard that Game is.

I love Celeste, it’s even my favourite game of the decade but 4th hardest game of all time? Nah. I once heard someone say this but it perfectly sums it up: ‘Celeste is the hardest game anyone can beat’ It’s difficult but anyone can do it, the game movement is perfect enough for anyone to get the hand of it to finish the game
You are right Celeste is not that hard, at least as long as you avoid the b-sides and the other extra content. The standard game is challenging, but doable. The game is still fantastic though.
I disagree that game was insanely difficult, the reason anyone can beat it is because you instantly respawn with no repercussions in contrast to say darksouls where you lose your stuff and have a loading screen and everything respawns everytime

Gradius III arcade literally takes the unfair title. I've not seen a ton of people ever beat the game without tool assisting, and the ones who have beat it legit have never done so on one life. These Watch Mojo guys would cry and cower in fear over Gradius 3 arcade.

I've never met anyone that has beaten Battletoads, without cheating. I've never beaten it and I've beaten several of the games that's on this list including Contra (w/o using the Konami code), Ghouls and Ghost (although only twice), Castlevania and F-Zero GX just to have a few. If you're truly beaten it than congratulations but if you cheated, then it doesn't count.

Until I got to a point in the game where I started getting better gear, I had my Sheikah sensor set to track Guardian Stalkers (The Decayed Guardians aren’t too problematic because they can’t move) and I’d stay the hell away from them. Every time I saw one in the distance I’d just go the other direction.
The Guardian on the way to Zora’s Domain didn’t help very much because I’m pretty sure there’s no other way to get to Zora’s Domain for the first time without going through that area. Correct me if I’m wrong.

That's what made it so hard as two player mode was even harder than single player because of the friendly fire. Not only could you hit your partner, the game made it so that close combat was the norm so there was plenty of friendly fire. It's the hardest game I've ever played and it makes most games look easy. One of the very few games I've never managed to beat. Second was Ghouls and Ghost and Super Ghouls and Ghost as it only took two hits to get killed and there's very little health options. I did managed to beat both games once. Third for me was the Contra series as if it wasn't for the Konami code, those games were hard.
@@saysoun752 For me, that was only half of the problem. The other half was my brother being OBSESSED with the aspect, to the point of ignoring, avoiding & even HELPING the enemy beat me up. If it wasn't for TH-cam, I wouldn't know anything after level 2. But for what it's worth, it did allow me to discover a few details the creators threw in that most players didn't/don't know about.

I would say that DS3 is the hardest of them all. Simply because the Bosses are sometimes too fast for your possible movement. But thats just my opinion My list from hardest to easiest would be: 1.Dark Souls 3 2.Dark Souls 2 3.Bloodborne 4.Dark Souls 1 Sekiro is in a hole other dimension and I never played Demons Souls

@@ManEaterBrainBug We all have opinions, but I disagree with what you said. DS2 is much more restricted in its world and level design. DS1 lets you wander into several hard areas like Blighttown or the Catacombs from the very start. DS2 tends to guide you along a few paths at a time. Majula only connects to 2 areas at the start: Tower of Flame and the Forest of Giants. The enemy placement and behaviour is much more tame; ranged attacks are very broken and having enemies walk back to their starting point if you lead them far away is an effective form of crowd control. The bosses tended to be similar in their mibesets as well, so you don't have to constantly adapt to a new set of moves, so the repetition is just training you for nearly every boss. DS1 doesn't have these most of the time and thus, it's a lot harder
@@chaoskiller6084 I find DS2 the hardest because it's gameplay is the weakest. It plays very slow and clunky, giving you fewer opportunity windows to react wich can become a nightmare in certain areas. In Iron Keep for instance (SotfS version) you get ganked into oblivion by Alonne Knights wich are simply much faster than you and you barely can even react to them. Also DS2 throws unbalanced bs at you like the Ancient Dragon boss fight.
@@ManEaterBrainBug Fair points, but the Iron Keep is a pain, but with range and good positioning along with a few secret walls, it's still possible to handle. Bosses that are unbalanced are usually avoidable, like Ancient Dragon and Gank Squad. I've never really noticed the clunky movement at all. This can be because of the difference in total playtime or our difference in preferability in controls.
demon's souls is the hardest for me, only one i haven't beaten. after that i would say sotfs is my hardest, especially if you count the dlcs. ds1 got really easy with the remastered version because lag was a large part of the challenge in ds1.

I no-lifed Bloodborne, and I still struggled to hell and back with Sekiro. Though NG+7 Orphan and Ludwig scarred me for life, and we don't talk about the lower Chalice Dungeons ;_;
the Orphan of Kos was the hardest thing I've experienced in a video game. I really think Bloodborne should have been top 5 on this list just for that boss
BattleToads is probably the hardest game I've ever played. The first few levels are alright, but you get to the "Turbo Tunnel" and things escalate very quickly.

Touhou Project is probably sitting in the background going: Guess you never heard of our Lunatic mode. Touhou Project, Getting Over it, and Dreamcast/PS1 racing game Vanishing Point are my picks though.
I LOVED Ikaruga! Yes it's a hard game, and yes I didn't get very far. But it was a lot of fun for me. It's an intense game, not just in difficulty but in the visuals. And the bosses are epic. Addendum DMC3 was hella fun too. The special edition that let you use Virgil was even better. Loved that game too... One thing though... That recycled and remixed theme song was obnoxious.
"Ninja Gaiden" is kind of unfair a lot of the time - one typical reason for dying in that game is that you get hit by an enemy when you are close to a pit, and you get knocked back so much in that game that this happens very often. There is also that infamous stage "6-2" where you get attacked by several enemies at the same time while you are trying to get rid of an enemy that is in the way on a very small platform. The game _can_ be mastered so that you know what to do at each section and then manage to pull it off reliably most of the time, but you really have to be inventive on some parts and carefully study what you can do.

@@kingenderdragona4791 It is possible to beat Tetris. There is a TAS run that reached the end. The game crashes at level 237. This crash is considered the end of the game, same as in Pacman.
It is absolutely humanly impossible though. In fact, the vast majority of levels in the game are humanly impossible and haven't been reached by anyone.

@@blackswan7098 They had megaman on the list because of achievements, I think it would be fair to count a dlc as part of the game, especially considering absolute radiance is easily THE hardest boss in any videogame. That's not even taking into consideration beating the pantheon 5 on radiant. I expected hollow knight to at least be top 5 after seeing the games on the list. Also it's still a massive part of the game in terms of play time.

I mean, any game is hard when you play like in the video. Simon intentionally died to the dragon, running into easily avoidable enemies, unnecessary jumps, meatboy just ran into a buzz saw over and over again. The list also should have included Wings of Vi. That game is challenging. Way harder than Cuphead and Celest.

Your opinion, maybe you’re just naturally better at platformers than most others, including me.
The reason I think games like GD and Osu don't make these lists is probably that their difficulty is derived from community content and not the base game, but that you also get a choice in what difficulty of levels/charts you play at all times. With Games like Osu and GD, the top levels/charts are completely nuts and easily trump these games. But these games are pretty hard throughout and you can't really do anything about it, whereas GD and Osu have easy stuff as well as hard stuff, you get a lot of choice in how hard you want the game to be by choosing what you play. I do feel music/rhythm games just get overlooked for these kinds of lists in general anyway tho, but I digress. If GD did throw you straight into top extreme demons (as official levels) and nothing else, then it would easily place 1st on this list by miles.

And isnt that a good thing that it has a difficulty chart? The moment we count are the hardest moments in the game. For example you can play on easy mode for cuphead. We dont count that. We count the expert difficulty as its difficulty because we choose the hardest parts of the game to determine the difficulty.
And its beating levels. Its like on cuphead but you can choose from all levels. Cuphead's earlier levels are easy.

You are right Celeste is not that hard, at least as long as you avoid the b-sides and the other extra content. The standard game is challenging, but doable. The game is still fantastic though.
I disagree that game was insanely difficult, the reason anyone can beat it is because you instantly respawn with no repercussions in contrast to say darksouls where you lose your stuff and have a loading screen and everything respawns everytime

I've never beaten it and I've beaten several of the games that's on this list including Contra (w/o using the Konami code), Ghouls and Ghost (although only twice), Castlevania and F-Zero GX just to have a few. If you're truly beaten it than congratulations but if you cheated, then it doesn't count.

Those damn Guardians. Until I got to a point in the game where I started getting better gear, I had my Sheikah sensor set to track Guardian Stalkers (The Decayed Guardians aren’t too problematic because they can’t move) and I’d stay the hell away from them. Every time I saw one in the distance I’d just go the other direction.
The Guardian on the way to Zora’s Domain didn’t help very much because I’m pretty sure there’s no other way to get to Zora’s Domain for the first time without going through that area. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah. Every weekend was a begging contest, with my mother as judge.
That's what made it so hard as two player mode was even harder than single player because of the friendly fire. Not only could you hit your partner, the game made it so that close combat was the norm so there was plenty of friendly fire. It's the hardest game I've ever played and it makes most games look easy. One of the very few games I've never managed to beat. Second was Ghouls and Ghost and Super Ghouls and Ghost as it only took two hits to get killed and there's very little health options. I did managed to beat both games once. Third for me was the Contra series as if it wasn't for the Konami code, those games were hard.

For me, that was only half of the problem. The other half was my brother being OBSESSED with the aspect, to the point of ignoring, avoiding & even HELPING the enemy beat me up. If it wasn't for TH-cam, I wouldn't know anything after level 2. But for what it's worth, it did allow me to discover a few details the creators threw in that most players didn't/don't know about.

Demon Souls before Dark Souls. Everyone seems to forget that.

@@ManEaterBrainBug We all have opinions, but I disagree with what you said. DS2 is much more restricted in its world and level design. DS1 lets you wander into several hard areas like Blighttown or the Catacombs from the very start. DS2 tends to guide you along a few paths at a time. Majula only connects to 2 areas at the start: Tower of Flame and the Forest of Giants. The enemy placement and behaviour is much more tame; ranged attacks are very broken and having enemies walk back to their starting point if you lead them far away is an effective form of crowd control. The bosses tended to be similar in their mibesets as well, so you don't have to constantly adapt to a new set of moves, so the repetition is just training you for nearly every boss. DS1 doesn't have these most of the time and thus, it's a lot harder
@@chaoskiller6084 I find DS2 the hardest because it's gameplay is the weakest. It plays very slow and clunky, giving you fewer opportunity windows to react wich can become a nightmare in certain areas.
In Iron Keep for instance (SotfS version) you get ganked into oblivion by Alonne Knights wich are simply much faster than you and you barely can even react to them. Also DS2 throws unbalanced bs at you like the Ancient Dragon boss fight.
@@ManEaterBrainBug Fair points, but the Iron Keep is a pain, but with range and good positioning along with a few secret walls, it's still possible to handle. Bosses that are unbalanced are usually avoidable, like Ancient Dragon and Gank Squad. I've never really noticed the clunky movement at all. This can be because of the difference in total playtime or our difference in preferability in controls.
demon's souls is the hardest for me, only one i haven't beaten. after that i would say sotfs is my hardest, especially if you count the dlcs. ds1 got really easy with the remastered version because lag was a large part of the challenge in ds1.

I no-lifed Bloodborne, and I still struggled to hell and back with Sekiro. Though NG+7 Orphan and Ludwig scarred me for life, and we don't talk about the lower Chalice Dungeons ;_;
the Orphan of Kos was the hardest thing I've experienced in a video game. I really think Bloodborne should have been top 5 on this list just for that boss

BattleToads is probably the hardest game I've ever played. The first few levels are alright, but you get to the "Turbo Tunnel" and things escalate very quickly.

@@criznittle968 nah, I feel like I COULD beat Silver Surfer given enough practice but I resigned myself to the fact that there is no way in hell I could ever beat that damn turbo tunnel.
@@SlayerRunefrost i've beaten the turbo tunnel, and on multiplayer. it's rough, but with some memorization and practice - no problem. it's the rest of the game that ruins your life. that said, Silver Surfer is still impossible. I'd pay to see you beat it.

I LOVED Ikaruga! Yes it's a hard game, and yes I didn't get very far. But it was a lot of fun for me. It's an intense game, not just in difficulty but in the visuals. And the bosses are epic.
Addendum DMC3 was hella fun too. The special edition that let you use Virgil was even better. Loved that game too... One thing though... That recycled and remixed theme song was obnoxious.

Where's Ninja Gaiden? Everything I've heard and everything I've read about the game have one thing in common and that's the difficulty.
"Ninja Gaiden" is kind of unfair a lot of the time - one typical reason for dying in that game is that you get hit by an enemy when you are close to a pit, and you get knocked back so much in that game that this happens very often.
There is also that infamous stage "6-2" where you get attacked by several enemies at the same time while you are trying to get rid of an enemy that is in the way on a very small platform.
The game _can_ be mastered so that you know what to do at each section and then manage to pull it off reliably most of the time, but you really have to be inventive on some parts and carefully study what you can do.
Sheesh I didn't know it was that hard. Now it definitely sounds harder than Souls. I knew Team Ninja made each game harder than the last. Thanks LL.

I really think that "Chakan: The Forever Man" on the Genesis should have been on this list, that was a crazy hard game.
That game didn't look sexy enough. It was just gloomy Goth game filled with grey and black, compared to the bright, slick Sonic the Hedgehog.
