Maybe I'm missing something but that doesn't appear to be a fish safe rig at all. A crack off or the helicopter bead pulling out of the feeder on the cast leaves a self hooking rig in the water that will see a fish tethered to a 70g feeder with 12lb line.
It would have been better to Araldite a tube into the feeder and fix it in place with a swivel at the front and a rubber float stop at the back.

Might have missed something but how do you put the casters on the tag end? Do you tie a loop and needle them on before tying the knotless knot?

Can you use this method over silt or will the maggots just dig into the silt and be gone from the tench? ?

@YehItsScott You do realize that IS feeding little and often, don't you? That 70gr method-feeder can hold plenty of maggots, it empties some when it hits the surface, but as time goes, the maggots crawl away and creates a small bed of bait. Of course you could recast every 30-60min or so to get a proper baited area if you haven't taped it all up.

If the mainline snaps above the feeder, it shouldn't take much to pull the hook link swivel free from the bottom bead. Only the bead at the bottom of the feeder is glued into the feeder - the swivel is just pushed inside it.

Just listen carefully at what Martin says.. He is fishing with 70grams, if your using less them 10/12lbs line it will snap directly once the tench aggressivly moves his head!

It’s simple hold the hook and imagine your caught now see if you can rid yourself of the feeder and be left with just a piece of line and the hook if not scrap it ! But l don’t think Martin Bowler would use a rig that would possibly kill a specimen fish of any species?

At my carp fishery that system is known as a DEATH RIG !
WHY? Because if you get snapped up, or get caught in a snag with a fish on and the line breaks that fish spends the rest of its life dragging a weighted feeder around with no chance of shedding it - unless its caught again or rescued. I'm surprised at Martin?

I take it you haven't understood his rig then. The feeder is semi fixed! The mainline runs through the feeder and is tied to a swivel. That swivel is pulled into the rubber bead he's glued into the feeder. So it's as safe as any other semi fixed rig. But we'll done for making a comment without fully understanding what you're talking about 😂😂😂😂

      DEATH RIG !
Araldite and Super glue says it all. If you've ever used it ? I doubt it. Thanks mate for your rude and ignorant reply. Manners cost nothing but you are clearly a part of the modern uncouth society 😅😅😅😅

The hooklink is semi fixed! It will pull out of the feeder under tension. It's only the rubber sleeve thats glued inside. He has basically made the feeder into an inline lead. So before you start name calling make sure you understand what you're talking about. You clearly haven't understood this rig at all. But thank you for your reply. There was nothing rude about my reply I just explained the rig to you in a way you may understand it. You're clearly part of the "I'm right and no one else is society"

Read your last sentence in your original post along with the row of laughing faces. If that's not rude or sarcastic then perhaps I was right in my reply We must agree to differ on this whole issue it seems. I was just quoting what my carp fishing club say about these type of rigs. Good angling 😊
