The Encyclopedia of Indian Cinema says this about Harano Sur:
The amnesiac Aloke (Kumar) is rescued from
the asylum by doctor Roma (Sen) who takes
him to her father’s (Sanyal) edenic country
house. They marry, but a second accident,
and a new bout of amnesia, makes him forget
her and recall instead his earlier life as a rich
businessman in Calcutta. When Roma follows
him there, he does not remember her, but he
hires her as governess to his niece, causing
her considerable anguish. Moinak Biswas
characterised the film as a domestic
melodrama of ‘a subordinate woman winning
over her boss’s heart’, in the genre of English
novels such as Richardson’s Pamela (Biswas,
‘The Couple and Their Spaces: Harano Sur as
Melodrama’, 1995). Roma keeps trying to
stimulate the hero’s memory, using e.g. the
refrain of their wedding song (and the film’s
musical hit) Tumi je amar, but is unable to
reply when Aloke, haunted by her presence,
asks ‘Who are you?’. The plot provides a
schematic version of the classic Kumar-Sen
romance with a medical angle (cf. Sagarika,
1956; Deep Jweley Jai, 1959), many lavishly
mounted scenes of windswept expanses,
fluttering curtains, incense and mnemonic
objects such as a bunch of tube-roses,
countered by two abrupt eruptions of realist
outdoor locations (when Aloke first recovers
his memory, and when Roma follows him into
his Calcutta office). The film was adapted
from Mervyn LeRoy’s Random Harvest (1942).
It also says the film is 162 minutes long, so this version is missing a whole lot. One long missing part - probably a whole reel of film (15 minutes or so) - occurs after Uttam and Suchitra marry and she sings a cut off version of the main song (Tumi Je Amar). They begin their married life but then he's in another accident where he forgets everything that occurred after the first accident and goes home to Kolkota to resume his previous life. We pick it up again when he's about to head home. Another missing part occurs after Suchitra follows him to Kolkota, finds him, and goes to his office. There's a break in the plot - probably another whole reel - and then she's been hired as a nanny and encounters him in the middle of the night. And the Hemant Kumar song is also missing. It's disconcerting but the film is haunting, nonetheless.

বাংলা চলচ্চিত্র জগতের সফল জুটি। মহানায়ক মহানায়িকা বলে সম্ভব। মন কেড়ে নেওয়া অভিনয়
হারান সুর সিনেমা কত বার দেখেছি মনে নেই। আজও দেখলাম মনে হলো আজকে নতুন দেখলাম। সুন্দর সুন্দর ডায়লগ সব মুখস্থ। অসাধারণ একটা ছবি সিনেমা।
এক জন আর এক জন কে আপন করে পাওয়ার জন্য অসাধ্য সাধন ও জীবন বাজি রেখে কর্তব্য করার নাম ই তো প্রেম ।।
অসাধারণ একটি ছবি।
কাহিনীকার অসাধারণ সংলাপ সৃষ্টি করেছেন। সেই কাহিনী কে ফুটিয়ে তুলেছেন মহানায়ক ও মহানায়িকা।
জীবন ধন্য হয়ে গেছে।
আর কত দেখব! নতুন স্ত্রী পুরোনো হলো, নিজে যৌবন হারালাম কিন্তু হারানো সুর হারিয়ে গেল না।

আমি যখন এই সিনেমা প্রথম দেখি, তখন ক্লাস - 10 (1977 সাল) এ পড়ি। এখন আমার 61 বছর বয়স... একজন retired person.... সেই 1977 সাল থেকে আমি হিন্দি বাংলা ইংরাজী প্রচুর সিনেমা দেখেছি। কিন্তু এটাই আমার দেখা শ্রেষ্ঠ Romantic Cinema! এরকম সুমধুর romance আমি আর কোনো সিনেমায় পাই নি। এই কালজয়ী জুটির 32 টি সিনেমার মধ্যে 26 টি দেখেছি.... হাঁ, সব মিলিয়েই বলছি।

Yes, there must be vey interesting Hindi films but can not find them, not with subtitles.
I can choose a few interesting movies in Hindi also but not many. For example, Mother India, Barsaat, Awara, Shree 420, Piyaasa - I have them in videos too.
Actually, I prefer the movies/films in Hindi language. Also, I love the music/songs in Hindi more than in another language of India.
You must be very busy, I can not expect you to search movies for me, but I would appreciate very much if you could give me some titles, and I would be very happy if the actors are Raj Kapoor, Nargis, Waheeda Rehman, Guru Dutt, Dilip Kumar, Raaj Kumar...

I have films by all the people you mentioned. A channel search will turn them up. However, because this channel uploads only public domain films (pre-1963, as I writer this), much of the work of many of these people isn't available for me to work on and upload. But, I can say right now that not 90% of the Indian films have English Subtitles, you might have 90% in your list. Sometime ago I tried very hard to buy them on videos. Also, I went through your list and have seen many I can try.
@@paulinefriend9455 Maybe English isn't your first language? I said, "Most - easily over 90% - of the films in this channel have English subtitles. "In this channel". Few of the films in other similar channels have subtitles. One Hindi-language channel - Shemaroo - started including subs, I think in response to me. The Bengali media company - Angel - has a channel that includes English subtitles with their films. Others, when they steal the films in this channel for their own channels, sometimes also steal the subtitles. But they're mostly only the original language with no subtitles. They don't really need to include subtitles. Even a channel like this one has few subscribers that don't speak and understand Hindi or Bengali. There are relatively few subscribers - like you and me - that can't watch the films unless they include subtitles.
