Agreed, earlier games were mostly focused about gameplay and less care given into story but starting with Conviction and then Blacklist felt like a soft reboot and more cinematic and story driven while downgrading some elements of the gameplay. Few months ago Ubisoft announced an actual reboot to Splinter Cell series. Fingers crossed. 🤞
Blacklist got some unfair reviews. It was an outstanding game...so was Conviction (despite the storyline being a little silly). If you think about it though, Splinter Cell is the only Ubisoft franchise left for Ubisoft to destroy.

The writing is awful and previous game had a more realistic Clancyesque writing
They don’t make stealth games like this anymore
