It's to show the mental state of one's own being is above their physicial state. That and Genesis's fascination in the genetic manipulation of the human body.
A lot of people seem to get hung up on what is or isn't art. Any gangster rap is just as much art as any other music. The real issue is determining the quality of art, something that can't always be easily identified.

While I would be equally frustrated with that situation, why not try to react from a place of sympathy that these people don't have the self-confidence to let themselves be free?? Their loss, right?
