I totally agree with you, thermal spotters have helped me clear out 600 possums in on a 2km stretch of land in four months. The only difference is mine has a rangefinder in it and I shoot using red light! Love your work Jake, keep up the good work.
Shooting usually achieves limited control. Those 700 possums could probably have been killed in 1/10th of the time, without leaving the remnant population extremely neophobic. Quite likely nowhere near as "cleaned out" as observed. This principle extends to most pest species. Coupled with the "management, "harvest", "take one for control", "that one has potential (over 50% of such common assessments are fanciful), "recover all the kai/meat" cult's ineffective ability, pests have thrived. Rec hunting has been a problem in most places due to that attitude. The Save the thar & anti 1080 stickers on k hunters vehicles show what is within. The country being over-run with damaging pests most places not subject to specific pest control operations, and some with them. Competent shooting does have a highly significant place, as does open fee free recreational hunting. Without block systems (different from restricted access like the Thar wilderness zones landing sites), which have little practical merit apart from pest protection.
