Jake Bown As often as I hear these guys say how much they get bikes for online in multiple videos and as well as I know the market (I rebuild motocross bikes for a living) it is pure hogwash. If you needed the locked upbike gone in one day you could list it for significantly more.
Got my Kawasaki KXF250 off of SF Craigslist for $200 with a blown up motor (turns out only the top end was shot, even the valves were good), with Pink Slip and Current Title. He wanted $500. I offered $200 and now I have my District 36 Racer. There is a nice 2000 Yamaha YZ125 on SF Craigslist right now for $300. I am going to call on it around 8am and see if it has the Pink Slip.
I do these projects every month in my barn with 1 bike maybe 2. But people who do this to make a nice profit just pick up the 2 smokers. Their easier cheaper fun to work on faster and cost less. Yz 125s 250s 80s 85s. I usually keep em stock but when i find a yz 250 that us cheap that has a little mods i spend a little more.
Is it normal after a rebuild that it won't last as long? I did a full rebuild on a 2008 yz250f and it only lasted 54 hours. Did oil changes every 2 -3 hours and had clean air filters almost every ride. Why might this have happened?
I bet u spent about 4k in parts to redo the bike. You can find 2010 yz450fs used for that price. It's not economical to rebuild a 4stroke. And I noticed u never said how much u spent.
4 stroke are a pain even if you do the job yourself as I do... a lot of time and parts, believe me guys. They are easier to ride but they are killing mx by noise and maintenance!

I got a whole Motor rebuild and clutch basket all that plus labor complete new everything for 1200$ and this bike is as good as new
I guess im the lucky one. I got an 07 with complete motor (not blown up) still has great compression just missing a few parts for $300

Those fork seals werent blown. They were dirty. Hit em with a sealmate and theyll quit leaking

I got my 08 for 1600 and I know that's a great deal but dosent seem economic to pay 2000 rebuilding it when you could just buy a better bike
if you blew the piston, I'm pretty sure the cylinder would need to be fixed.
