Yes this a brilliant song, on Monday I attended a Peter Gabriel concert (part of his I/O tour) and this song was included in the setlist, amongst some others from this album.

Love his voice on this album, his finest vocals I think. The album was co-produced by canadian Daniel Lanois who also did a bunch of the most popular albums for U2 including The Joshua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire, Achtung Baby, All That You Can’t Leave Behind.

The drum fill and wailing vocal after the line "With the trust of a child" is possibly my favourite moment in all the music I have ever heard.

An excellent opening track to an outstanding PG album. Gabriel’s attention to detail and the production values are present from the off: very percussive, rhythmic and his vocal range adds to the depth of the song and showcases the quality of his songwriting.

Give Biko a listen, Peter much like Kate Bush is a story teller not just in their lyrics but in their music too, like your 'mind-blown' reactions to both Peter & Kate, great to see. If you want another similar sonic experience, try a bit of Rush.....2112, Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres & beyond, thank you I enjoyed your take on some excellent music, Peace

Awesome track, awesome voice, awesome reaction, what's not to like? My favorite song on the album is track 6 'Mercy Street'. Looking forward to that.

There are a few more tracks featuring Kate Bush on Peter Gabriel's third album (untitled but known as "Melt") : "Games Without Frontiers" and "No Self Control".

That's one of my favorite songs ever, let alone Peter Gabriel song. So powerful, yet so intimate. It's really genius. Love it.

It may be an age-related opinion, but boy, the 1980s surely were the best when it comes to stunningly fantastic music being made!

Yes, this album is something else indeed. This track promises so much and Peter will deliver. But as good as his studioalbums are, better are his concerts... It's a joy PG released several live albums as well. I often return there. At the moment he has just started his latest worldtour AND produced another studio album. For the first time in many, many years.

So excited for your PG journey, Matt! He is imho the only contemporary coequal of Kate Bush. Red Rain is based on a recurring dream of Gabriel’s, but has become indelibly associated with two very ‘80’s preoccupations: nuclear fallout and the AIDS crisis.
Fun fact: the track features Stewart Copeland of The Police on hi hat.

It's a real bass by the great Tony Levin.

Check out the two preceding albums Peter Gabriel 3 (1980) and Peter Gabriel 4 (1982] if you can they are pretty amazing. Apparently his record company got annoyed with his refusal to give his albums titles so he called it ‘So’ as an anti title.

Red Rain = Kat Hellman's codeword to Max that tonight is not happening.

As with a lot of songs from this time period in music the song has a strong lyrical bent towards the nuclear ending of mankind as well as the every growing AIDS epidemic that was harder and harder to escape from by the mid 80s when this song was released.
