Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your Montessori posts. I've known about the method and wanted to implement it for over a year, but never knew where to find resources to help me get started, and so many of the TH-cam videos and blogs I've found seem to assume you already are familiar with all the methods/reasoning behind different applications, or just generally make it seem inaccessible by getting you bogged down in details. I love that you give simple explanations that anyone can understand and point to resources that go into more depth as well. Also, on the positive parenting front, if you haven't discovered her already, you should check out Janet Lansbury's podcast. It is definitely hard implementing positive parenting when it is quite different from what most of us have been taught to believe, but I find her guidance so encouraging. And, as I've gotten better with more practice over time, I have really begun to see how much better my child responds to positive methods than anything else. I actually had a friend ask me a few weeks ago how I get my daughter to listen to me so well, and I really believe it's because she does feel respected and loved above all else, which leads her to want to follow my direction (most of the time, she is still a toddler after all!).
I have read some of Janet Lansbury’s work, but have not listened to her podcast! Adding it to my list of things to do after the girls are in bed! 🥰 Thank you so much for your positive feedback!
teachingtoddler hey ,if anyone else is searching for how to discipline a toddler try Loctavan Teaching Toddler Strategy ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my brother in law got amazing success with it.
Basic Montessori Learning Activities for under 5 by David Gettman has been another amazing find. I have yet found a book like it that losts out in chronological order the 5 areas Montessori covers in a complete list that Montessori would give information. I keep finding lots of activities , but this is the most complete list of extensions for the preliminary activities that transitions into actual preschool. We are definitely homeschooling and starting Montessori preschool concepts this fall for our 3 year old. I would highly recommend it! Its literally $8 Amazon. This booklist you offered was my beginning gateway to a whole slew of excellent books! Thank you for so systematically and thoroughly sharing your thoughts and knowledge!!!
Love this! We are parents who implement positive discipline and it seems so common sense to parent in this manner. Respect our children, and they will be respectful kids and turn into respectful adults!
Read Montessori from the start when I was pregnant and I'm so happy I did! Currently reading "no bad kids" by janet lansbury which is also such a lifesaver for me right now. Great recommendations!
Thank you so much Ashley.. just found your series.. trying to learn more about Montessori to implement it at home with a 3 month old.. hopefully it’s not too late.. your videos are super informative for a new parent starting out on this journey.. ❤️
Thanks for this! Was recently wondering if you have any recommendations for books about "how things work" for older toddlers or around that age. My kid is 3 now and is definitely interested and able to make sense of things more. I loved your recommendation for the book Amazing you!. Just need to find similar things but on other topics: body (organs etc), geography, geology, history.. planets/space.. Anything really.. Weather? Obviously all age approptiate but introducing those sort of topics.
Thanks! I love your videos Kylie is such a smart, helpful, beautiful little soul! I wish I had learned about Montessori sooner. I have a 14 mo old and I'm due with #2 in 3 months. It's amazing to see your daughters together, and how gentle Kylie is with Mia! Such an inspiration, I can't wait to start reading and applying this method in my own house! Do you plan to homeschool or public school?
Ok. I just discovered your channel! You are very resourcefull and your voice is so calming! I love to watch your videos! I just read "The Montessori Toddler" and it is such a great book! :) Hello from Canada!
I am reading Montessori from the start right now! It’s great! I was a preschool teacher and was having a hard time incorporating Montessori with my son. So this book has helped. Im going to have to get these other books. Would you say the positive parenting book is beneficial to read with an infant? I guess before that ‘power struggle’ starts happening? Thanks for sharing!
Yes! That’s why I read it so early, too, and it’s been so beneficial to have that knowledge already in mind as she begins to test her limits more and more with her growing independence. Glad I could help!
I’ve followed your channel since I was pregnant with my first son and now he’s 21mo I’m at this same point in my pregnancy with his little brother! This is surreal, I forgot your girls were the same age gap as our boys will be. Also can’t imagine doing all the stuff you’ve accomplished already at this point in their lives 😂
I don't know if I unsubscribed to you by accident or if Ezra just did that with my phone but sorry if you got a notification saying I've just subbed, I've been subbed for ages 😂 thank you so much for these recommendations, Ashley. I'm definitely going to start with the second one you mentioned, just because I'm such a visual learning and find it easier dipping in and out of books when I don't have much time right now. I'm so pleased you mentioned positive parenting too, I really want to educate myself even more on this and will also be getting the Peaceful parent happy child book. You're so well informed, thanks to you I now know about the world of Montessori way of learning. Thank you!
OMG I’ve TOTALLY done that on accident myself, without my toddler’s help... lol... so no worries at all! I know you’ve been around for a while (I believe the kids these days call it “OG” 😂😂). And yes, the second book provides just enough theory to really get started, so definitely a great choice! 👏🏻 So glad you found some of these suggestions useful!
Congratulations on being 30 weeks pregnant. I just posted a video on preparing for baby #2. You might want to watch it. I love learning Montessori from you. I'm slowly transitioning our toys.
Yes, I saw it late last night in my feed! It’s already on my “watch later” list for as soon as I have enough time to sit uninterrupted! 😊 Can’t wait to see it! And I’m glad I’ve been able to help you in some way, too. :) I love Montessori!
Hello, I would like to know If the book Teach me to do It myself has an age orientation, my girl is 1 year old, not sure If she is already able to do the activities described in the book.
If I can only buy one book... Which would be your number one suggestion? Sorry if you said in the video. I can't watch it right now because of sleeping baby.
lovee all the recommendations! thank you will be def checking them out.. and yesss to peaceful parents, happy kids! dr laura markham is amazing.. have you got a chance to work through her workbook? i just ordered it..supposed to help parents work through their past and emotions while implementing the theoretical components from her original book.. looking fwd to your montessori at home series
Hi my names Selina. I understand you are a super busy Mum but this video made me wonder, have you considered making a Montessori book of your own?? Maybe you could try a different format of book that you think would be more accessible for people, and can have a good amount of theory and practical activity ideas. I'm sure when learning about parenting the Montessori way there were times where you thought things would be much easier to understand if they were written or explained a different way so you could accommodate for other parents who feel the same. You could include your daughter to show practical activities. I just think it would be an excellent idea since you already have a platform/ audience who would be familiar with you and would support you by buying your book. Just a thought. I have recently come across your channel- although I haven't got any kids of my own as a Health And Human Development student, who will be studying a Master of Teaching at University next year I enjoy watching different parenting and educational philosophy content. Love your content, am a new subscriber and look forward to watching more
“How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way” would be a good choice because it has lots of images and other visuals, and it’s geared for your child’s age (and as she gets older).
Some people just haven’t learned enough about it and are simply misled into believing that it’s very strict and discipline-oriented because it *looks* so orderly from the outside. And in all reality, this is completely unfounded. Orderly does not necessarily imply strict. Moreover, they often just can’t believe that children are capable of learning in this type of environment (when ironically enough, it’s exactly what they crave). Montessori is a totally child-centered method! Great question! 😊👏🏻
I heard like kids aren't allowed to watch Disney films and I heard different things suggesting Montessori forbids kids from watching things other kids watch on tv or pop culture references. @@HapaFamily
Matt Del Videos VLOGS Those are exactly the kinds of misconceptions that are unfortunately perpetuated. This is very untrue. It’s mostly about not plopping your kid in front of a TV and letting them zone out for unsupervised amounts of time, when they could be doing something more active, stimulating, and engaging for their brains. Also, it is encouraged that children under the age of 6 be primarily exposed to books (or other entertainment, if the family permits screen time) based in reality because it is well-documented that children of this age have a hard time distinguishing between reality and fantasy. It also fosters better intrinsic creativity in the child if they have that initial time in their development to devise things from their own imaginations instead of that already created by adults. Anywho... there is SO much more to it than I could ever write about in this one comment, but if you’re looking for more info about it, then I can certainly send you some links to research by renowned experts in the area (as opposed to little old me 😉).
I apperciate your time and effort in explaining this and you definitely have explained it better than how I heard about it years ago. Fostering a different way of learning is always important if it's for the best interest of the child. Thank you so much for explaining this, I will continue to do more research and watch this channel! @@HapaFamily
