Tolani, I've been following your videos on tips for succeeding in interviews and just engineering in General since my freshman year in College. Applied some of those tips, attended NSBE Conferences and landed internship offers. I will be going into my senior year in Civil Engineering this upcoming fall! Thank you for being such an inspiration and always fly at the same time
lolll heyy! yes yes you will..it honestly will be over before you even know it...ppl used to say that to me and i was like yeah ok but lol 4 years later its so true
Hi, I'm a black female in high school interested in chemical engineering!!! This was so inspiring. I don't see very many black women in STEM, it's kinda lonely lol. Can you make more engineering related vids, like your study habits and how you got internships?
Just saw your video this morning! I'm a teacher and career day is today so this is perfect. I'm excited about showing my 4th grade students two African/Black engineers!!! Thank you! Seeing others that look like them succeed in these industries is key to having them expand their horizons of what they can become in the future.
Tammy Thomas 🙌oh wow thats awesome, and i totally agree...seeing is definately believing sometimes and i know if i wasnt exposed to it at an earlier age i most likely wouldnt have thought i could do it too.
Wow you both are on point, thanks for making this video. I interview and tell stories of women and minority engineers. I have several pals at Texas A&M too - glad you have that background :) hope to chat with you guys soon, thank you!!
Such a beautiful couple. And wow, both engineers...that's amazing. I want to get my little King into engineering quite young, my brother is an electrical engineer and father is a mechanical engineer.
Tolani A.V he is only 1 haha. Thinking well into the future. We are in the UK, not sure what is available here but will do my research. I've seen some programs for children as young as 3!
Working on my mechanical engineering and certificate on electronic can’t wait to graduate. You guys inspire me, thank you and I can’t wait to find a black queen with natural hair, life goal.
I listened to your engineering videos for motivation while i was in school. It was a LONG journey. I worked 2-3 jobs to support myself too the whole time which made it harder. Thankfully, as of 05/18 i earned my degree and i am now working as a MechE. Still kept a 2nd job as well because as an African in America the hustle never ends...Thank you for the encouragement you didn't know you gave me...See you at the top of the mountain T..
typed in black engineers.. we need more of us and congrats to the brother on finding a beautiful sister to be with. Im electrical its stressful going through it. Im an sophomore about to enter junior year. im thinking about going into electrical power eventually going into Research and Development. Muc love and thank you for sharing your experience
Omg I’m an electrical engineering major and I love to see this...honestly struggle to find internships early in my college experience, since everyone is looking at juniors...currently a sophomore, but I love that I understood everything that IBK was talking about! Y’all are my new faves 🤗🤗🇳🇬🇳🇬💪🏾💪🏾
Class of 2013 babay!!!!! I love it, love it, love it. As a fellow civil engineer by degree and a construction professional, I am so happy to watch such a beautiful display of black love and black excellence!!!
I came across ur video just utube surfing....my major is mechanical engineering and I convinced my boyfriend to major in engineering!!....so I'm ur one more minority in engineer yaaay lol y'all video was not boring at all thanks!!!
Hey! You both look gorgeous. I coincidentally stumbled on your video. I also have a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I must confess it was the best decision I ever made. I wasn't the only black guy when I started, but the only one during graduation :-/
Thanks for creating this video, I am studying Engineering in South Africa and always have doubts about whether I took the right path etc because it seems like it comes naturally for many in my department. You are an example of someone who is multitalented and slaying in more areas than just your career. You'all are beautiful, keep poppin'
Dorianne Mackenzie thankss girl! and stick with it...yeah i was like you because i wouldnt say it just came naturally to me(besides like the math/chemistry courses like calc and like quantitative analysis). the actual engineering core courses definately took hard work and struggggleeee lol
Love this video!! I can totally relate with all you said.. I have a bachelors in Petroleum Engineering and I've interned as a reservoir engineer, working with Geologists, performance prediction and i also interpreted well tests. Although, things aren't so good right now in the industry, I'm getting my masters degree right now and hope to continue in Petroleum Engineering. I love this video! Subbed!
Ayy great to see this! I just graduated in EE last December and really enjoying my position so far. I currently work in consulting for mainly oil & gas companies, but I'd like to move on to working with renewable sources of energy within the next 5 years. My main goal down the line is work in the automotive industry on electric cars, super cars, or even in F1 cus why not have fun with this dope degree!
Aye congrats on graduating! EE is such a dope degree, and what's great is that you can pivot into so many different industries, from consulting like you're in now to automotive to the medical device industry. I feel like college is a business (they take our money and in exchange give us a degree) so may as well maximize the business exchange and get a degree that gives us flexibility and sustainable pay right out of college 🙌
Please make more videos about engineering while Black!! I was invited to participate in this study for a wearable glucose monitoring device and then denied because my skin is too dark! The Scorpio in me was all like "well you know what?! I'm going to learn what you do and make devices that work on us!" 3 months later I enrolled in the biomedical engineering program. I'm starting my sophomore year on Tuesday and I'll be 38 in November! I spent the last year looking up videos on the engineering degree and y'all are literally the first Black people I've seen on here
Hey I’m late on finding your channel 😔 but what an inspiration from you both! 😍I want to become an AI engineer. I’m currently studying computer science. It’s nice to see another sister in STEM.
I'm glad I found your channel!! I'm a black electronics/electrical engineering technology major! Thank you for actually telling it like it is and being honest about your particular fields.
You guys inspired me to follow my dreams I’m currently a chemistry major who was going to do pre-pharmacy,until I became a pharmacy technician and realized it’s not what I want for myself. Aunt-in-Law she’s a chemical engineer and she absolutely loves what she does. She also wished there were more female black engineers. So long story short I am going to double major in Chemistry and physics Pre-engineering. Once it’s all done I’ll have 3 degrees;chemistry, physics and engineering. I also want to follow up with my Masters in ChemE. I know I have a LONG road ahead but you’ll give me hope. We need to change the game .. black people are educated too ! Thanks for the video 😌👩🏾🔬
Janae Wishem That’s amazing!! You GO girl!! You definitely got this- I’m a Biomedical Engineer and in undergrad, I had to take some physics and chemistry classes and so my hat is off to anyone who can major in chemistry and physics AND engineering on top of that. And completely agree, black people are educated, intelligent, and can do anything we set our mind to! 💕
I recently received a full tuition scholarship to Texas A&M and will be going there in the fal to major in Industrial Engineering. What was your experience there as black person and black engineer?
Adrian Lawson wow congratssssssssss!!!! My experience overall was great. There were some few occasions where it wasnt the most comfortable or welcoming place to be in (e.g 2008 election period..that was kinda bad). But there is a greaaaat community of people and its very hard not to find your own tribe of people there.
Yay, I'm a petroleum/mechanical engineer too and this is a great watch. I recall reaching out to you some months bavk to help with my Resume and you were so helpful. You're amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just to know there's a nice life after engineering is reassuring. Thanks for video love. I'm a junior mechanical engineering major and Ive been subscribed to you since I was a senior in high school. An un-offical mentor, thanks babes
I know I'm supposed to be studying for my stat quiz I know I'm about to fail, but this was more interesting.I really enjoyed hearing about your work roles and getting a RL description. One question.Do each of you feel like you would be content doing this forever, or do you have other passions beside engineering that you may consider Persuing with the knowledge you have?
Great to see you guys back. So impressed with how far you've come. Could ask a zillion questions because I'm involved in engineering and fascinated by the petroleum industry. But I'll save the questions for email and just say congratulations and good luck.
I loved this video and bringing something different to the YT the last person to make like a job related video was Ashely d beauty I'm a senior in high school so hearing about your careers in dept is so helpful because I'm between engineering and business and even thinking about double majoring if it's possible and seeing other people of color is inspiring and it's helpful when looking for a career path !!!!
Madison Carrington Do it! i said i was going to Minor in business and i never did and i lowkey regret it so def do it and follow through if thats what you want
Tolani A.V thank you I will try I'm planing on taking the engineering courses first to make sure it's what I want I wish more TH-camrs would have this idea to make career related videos it's so helpful and I really appreciate you giving me the inside after college scoop on what's the job is really like I wish you and your boyfriend endless Success and blessings !!!!!
I’m currently doing electronic and computer engineering and it is demanding compared to some other degrees but I enjoy it. I’m happy I’ve stumbled across your channel it’ll keep me going and it shows I can still live while I study lol.
Cocoa Below yass another black engineer! My dad was an electrical engineer, it is super demanding so that is so awesome to see that’s your major especially since it’s hard to find black ECEs!
New subscriber - love the video! I’m a recent chemE grad starting my career in manufacturing in Houston. I came to the video because I’m worried about fitting my natural hair into a hard hat (lol). Looks like I’ll be getting a work wig soon! I’d love to network with other black women in technical fields, & I’m excited to get involved with the local NSBE chapter!
You guys are a cute couple, wish there were more dark-skinned couples out there, but since you are are into engineering would care to show more vids on your profession and skills? It's okay to be nerdy, as a matter of fact we need more black people to be nerdy and to look up to the nerdy lifestyle. Not that hip hop or love and Hip Hop shit.
Wow so insightful, thanks for sharing. I laughed out loud at your reaction to your minority comment lol. Its okay to want more diversity in the workplace.
Interesting to hear about the EE tools he uses - any recommendations for learning about Power Systems and the software used? Or generally anything either of you wished you learned more/would do differently in college? Currently a EE student, this was a cool video, thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. I totally enjoyed it and even took notes. I'm studying petroleum engineering right now and I love the Engineering classes itself and not the prerequisite. Tell us some of the companies you interned with and how to get more internship? I have interned with two engineering companies(gas and civil). Another question, was it tough cause some of the classes are killing me and I'm starting to think Engineering might not be it.
Georgina Osawe heyyy so i actually have a video on all what you just asked explains interviewing & navigating career fairs. its on my channel i recorded while i was still in college. I will probably do an updated one now since i have been recruiting for a while now too
Octavia Winters OMG finally someone who's studying speech language pathology. Are you doing a Masters program in SLP? If you are was your undergrad major?
Inspiring stories😊 enjoyed your video.I’m a international student from Zimbabwe, a junior majoring in Engineering Physics: Mechanical in Southeast Missouri State University and I’m desperately looking for an internship during the summer and I’m completely clueless on networking lol. May I please have some help
@@TolaniAV thank you very much for the reply and help! But I’m not sure if there is a nsbe chapter at our school as I haven’t heard any department talking about it. So in this case, what is the best possible solution for me if my school doesn’t have that chapter?
@@chinzz7 You can still attend the regional and national conferences by registering on their website. I would suggest going to the nsbe.org website, i believe the national conference is coming up this spring. It's always a great place to network and attend their HUGE carreer fair( i got my internship that led to a full time offer from that conference). Career fairs are typically the best way to talk to recruiters so try to find as many of those to attend.
Tolani,
I've been following your videos on tips for succeeding in interviews and just engineering in General since my freshman year in College. hey!! if there is a nsbe chapter in your school, definitely get involved there and go to the regional and national conferences for their career fairs!
@@TolaniAV Thank You Very Much For The Wonderful Help! I’ll look into that! God Bless You!
