Hey friend, Diablo has always been close to my heart since the release of the original D2. Back then as pre teen I had no clue about skilling and rune words, let alone faster recovery speed tiers... You gave me a whole new appreciation for a childhood core memory. And is it happens to be, the same friend who I played D2 with in the late 90s, is also enjoying this wonderful classic anew!

I started with a cold spell sorceress but I enjoyed the lightning spells so much that I started putting more points into skills like chain lightning. I might respec later.
It’s an expensive build for sure, but boy is it fun to play. The AOA damage is comical. Lighting, weave in a couple of chain lightnings, and watch the screen melt. I found it particularly satisfying for farming pits, arcane sanctuary, and worldstone keep/Baal.

I can clear trash pretty well but champions and bosses are quite a struggle. Speccing into Blizzard and the game opens up a lot. How the heck are people farming up 2 ber runes for Infinity? Kinda feels like I can't play what I want without farming thousands of hours for runes, since every class guide that isnt sorc on the planet says get an enigma. By the time you farm all these runes what is there left to do in the game lmao
I started playing when d2r released. I managed to get infinity yesterday. I have a level 90 sorc and a level 82 smiter. I got lucky with 2 sorc torches and a Lo rune. Sold pretty much everything I've found and purchased the infinity. Now I can farm all content in players 8 hell
I play lightning without an infinity. I have whatever that decrepify weapon is for the merc, so I think that does help. And I skip almost lightning immunes. I’ve been farming for keys, to hopefully trade up to infinity, and farming Diablo/Baal. The merc is strong enough to clear anything I cant
been watching a few videos from you by now. they are really good but i think they lack the practical aspect. it seems very dry and theoretical. like here bolt, lightning and chain lightning alls maxed on 20.. which one to use? when to use? show it a bit in battle… it will break up the theory, get more entertaining and better explained. another example: paladin builds… i beat the game about 20 years ago also with a paladin (incl. hell) and i did not give a single thought about this modern way of analyzing and optimizing builds. now i want to try play a paladin in resurrected again… i was baffled that the paladin has a thousand auras but can only use one (active) at a time. i was lost how to play this… do i switch auras constantly? you also mentioned the resistance auras do a passive buff… i don’t see any passive buffs on my chara by just putting points in it and the description also writes “when active”. how does it work how do you actually play with it? thx man. all the best.
it increase your "maximum resist" per hard points, 1 per skill points when the aura active, half per skill points when not active. in ex, a 10 lvl hard points resist fire will cap your resist at 85% when the aura is active, and 80% when its inactive, provided you have enough resist gear to get the number that high. hope it helps.
Hes maxing the orther because it geves a stnergy boist, hea not using it actively. It just becomes a passive boost. But i do agree he speeds through on his guides. Hes done it so much that he forgets not everyone even knows what a synergy is, or that some skills have hidden bonuses.

Nope, just as oleg said due to mana burn. I found having around 1200 life and dump the rest into mana due to all of the +% to mana items. Then when your energy shield goes down you have enough life to do something. Also when you get about 1600 mana it recharges pretty fast even spaming CL. Also the 1200 life is after boosted by battle orders.
I know super old video. I never was able to get infinity years ago. I got it now. I have a couple of BiS items. Hoto, Harly, Soj, Vipermagi, War travs, magefist, couple of caster jewelry. No skillers. Also lvl 90.I was wondering if it's worth it to respec to lightning?
Your comments a bit old at this point, but I made the switch to lightning to farm keys without infinity. Sometimes I have to skip nihlathak but it’s overall much faster

Can anyone tell me how exactly does the Memory staff/CTA swap work for the energy shield build? Seems like it would be painful to BC/BO, swap to Memory cast ES, then swap back to CTA every time your BO runs out, especially if you have an inventory stuffed with charms?
Tried a godly lightning sorc with all of this gear once before. Absolutely hated it. The fact that you have to stand there and cast lightning spells is the problem. You’re always getting hit by mobs and your mana is always down to zero. Constantly using mana potions. Large mobs / crowd control is a bit of a toss up using lightning. Sometimes you cast a few lightning attacks and it just doesn’t do much damage. I have found that blizzard is the fastest killing skill against crowds and even bosses. On top of that, you never come close to dying with the insight on merc and just a point into energy shield. A high damage ethereal insight, along with fortitude armor, is enough for your merc to kill immunes in short time. Between the survivability, and the ability to take out large mobs and bosses within a split second, I’ll stick with blizzard.
A mercenary with a insight polearm eliminates the mana burning but in hell mobs with light resist is tough I avoid most if not all. I ended up dual specing with fire and frost shield or holy freeze are super helpful too

I was able to do solo Baal runs a bit faster, that 2nd wave with cold immunes takes me a bit longer to let my merc kill them when using blizzard.. but had to use infinity to do any damage in hell with lightning. Unfortunately with infinity you have no survivability like you do with insight. I find that my blizzard sorc does most areas faster than a lightning sorc. I’ll take the blizzard sorc because her damage is still insanely high, she wiped out large crowds faster, and I never come close to dying with the insight and energy shield. I haven’t died once since getting up past level 80.
@@cjdig86 with mana burn being a thing you need an insight mercenary when running energy shield build. This is why energy shield lightning build is not optimal, you should run enigma and spec everything into vitality. Also you should use chain lightening sporadically due to mana issues, normal lightning is the bread and butter skill. Lightning sorc is arguably the best overall build in the game (excluding broken lame hammerdin) provided you have infinity, hoto, enigma (massive boost to life), griffons, sojs and full inventory of skillers (so also one of the most expensive ones). MF sits around 220 (or 400+ with tal's). The only problematic enemies are - in high player count - the very high res or rare lightning immune types of mobs like mages in ancient tunnels. With crescent moon + vipermagi + fcr ring, she shreds through every area on players 7/8 at a cost of MF being ~120. Blizz sorc damage is great with death's fathom, but there is a plethora of cold immunes in chaos, WSK and other areas, so she is not that versatile - and slower in areas with no immunes, like ancient tunnels (with lightning you can snipe the bosses from afar).
I've been trying this build for about a week, but I'm having some problems with mana, it runs out so fast compared to using Insight instead of Infinity. I have to use Silkweaves, Frostburn, Manalds to be able to not run out of mana often. How could I fix that? I'm not spamming chain lightning, I only use it for big groups of enemies, otherwise I use lightning.
I recommend using ES and goin vita/energy hybrid. Remember you want to have the life/mana ratio equal to your ES's absorbs. 60% ES absorb means you want about 10% more mana than HP My sorc with low lvl BO has a mana pool of 1400 and how pool of about 1200 Never dies Never runs out of mana
@@deecee2816 I used to have an ES build when I was on frozen orb before respecing to lightning, but the baal tower phantoms screwed my mana too easily, so I changed that in the respec. Now I'm already used to how the lightning build works. I need to take potions but that's not a big problem, as enemies drop so many of them. I am now more conscious about when I use chain lightning, as it's the attack that consumes more mana, and I mostly use plain lightning now.
Crescent Moon is the best. Next is Eschuta then Hoto. Can only run 117% Fcr with Crescent Moon tho. Best setup would be with Griffon’s, CoH, Spirit shield, Arach’s, Magefist/Trang’s, 2 SoJ, at least 17% FCR Amulet and boots.
@@th6410 Only people who think COH is better than Eni on sorc think that Eschuta is better than Hoto. Jsp guides are actually more helpful than these guides on youtube tbh.
@@Azrub Nothing is better than another. It depends on what you need. Eschuta gives more dmg than Hoto but that's it. Enigma is not as good defensively as CoH, but give great MF. In this case, OP asked what is the highest dmg setup. For example, I farm AT with Cold Sorc with a moderate 500 MF but squeeze as much as 900 for Pindle. When I farm Chaos or Pit with Lightning sorc, I try to fit in a bit of MF, but for Baal, it's uncomfortable with less dmg/defense so I go all in with the Crescent Moon setup. And then there's the talk of clear speed vs MF, but I always get burnt out after the same number of runs, so clearspeed doesn't matter that much.
A bunch of people are saying they do 32k lightning damage with less gear than me. I can't seem to figure it out. I'm doing 22k light damage. Any ideas?
@@neillobrien6147 yeah man 94 with all synergies. Although my damage is now 29k(with 2 sojs, arachs, grifs, hoto, maras, spirit sheild and vipermagi) literally all bis gear with 3 light gcs and still not hitting the 32k people claim to have lol
Sure I could fit more gcs to increase it but my greens and my small charms already filly my inventory, it's really not a big deal tho, Im clearing chaos sanctuary in 2.5mins or less with seal pop. I'm just curious as to why the damage is lower than most claim to have
Probably more of a Hardcore build than specifically endgame. Mana isn't generally an issue since your points will be dumped into Energy instead of Vitality.
A lot of class builds are using enigma and CTA from your guides, how can I get those as fast as possible.(Might be off topic for this video but just wondering from someone like you)
I think this is the question all of us are going to be asking after about a week of playing the game. From what I have found there are a couple options, and all of them get better with higher players, so that's step 1. The areas I have seen farmed for runes are Arcane sanctuary for the specters (up to Cham), the council in Trav (up to Cham), any of the Finger mages in ROF/CS (up to Zod), or just regular old Hell Cows (up to Zod). The drop rates are stupid low, so anyone who has a better idea let me know :D
this build could be used to farm keys before you get expensive gear, countess, summoner, and nihlathak. Trade the keysets for high runes. Eventually get an infinity then you will be able to farm chaos better than hammerdin with enigma. but i haven't played in forever and i don't know which build is ACTUALLY most optimal for starting out.
yeah im a noob so there must be something i'm missing but i don't understand why you'd spend so much on charged bolt or lightning, and yeah chain lightning seems to do me much better than normal lightning. i dun get it :(
@@AaronBowley You max the skills because Charged Bolt and Lightning add bonuses to Chain Lightning (% damage per level), but also I *THINK* Lightning is better than Chain Lightning for 1 target/boss damage. So you can swap between them based on situation.

@@AaronBowley i just double checked in game, turns out its what I said and a little more, Lightning actually pierces, kinda like bonespear, so against lots of stacked up enemies lightning has the potential to do more AoE damage too since chain ligjtning bounces a fixed number of times.
Yes and no. You can build your soso based on this video, but your options thanks to the latest patch are better. I hope MrLlama updates these guides because sunder charms we got in 2.6 patch are game changing.

The amount of frames that are required to cast a single spell in D2. In D2, only the GCD between spells determines casting speed. Every spell is “instant cast” and Faster Cast Rate lowers the amount of frames between spell casts. Hope that helps!
How about a guide on how to respec into lightning at level 87? I don't have a LO rune for Fortitude. I am getting my ass handed to me in early Hell as a Metaorb Sorc. No SOJ. The best gear is not easily farmed for those of us who don't cheat.
It’s a grind, but it’s worth it. My advice would be to farm/trade enough to get 2xLo and trade them for a Ber. Of course that’s no easy task in itself, especially considering that infinity requires 2 Bers. That’s how I did it, since I still haven’t found a Ber since launch.
Breakpoints and Frame Rates are totally diff for a Light Sorc....it nerfs it just a bit. so even at 117 the frame rate is slower than 105 for Cold/Fire

Tbh most people who have infinity this early in d2r are people with lots of wealth in D2Jsp so they can buy the infinity.

One mistake in video -45-55% light res on infinity works only for merc attacks, not for sorc attacks... Sorc will receive bonus only from conv aura

Think its the pluggy mod for offline mode.
Much better to go with Frozen Orb and Lightning. Otherwise you will spend weeks or months looking for the runes for an infinity.

I am now more conscious about when I use chain lightning, as it's the attack that consumes more mana, and I mostly use plain lightning now.

That ability does minimal damage, but it sure does look cool. I personally didn’t waste a point on it.

Crescent Moon is the best. Next is Eschuta then Hoto. Can only run 117% Fcr with Crescent Moon tho. Best setup would be with Griffon’s, CoH, Spirit shield, Arach’s, Magefist/Trang’s, 2 SoJ, at least 17% FCR Amulet and boots.
@@th6410 Only people who think COH is better than Eni on sorc think that Eschuta is better than Hoto. Jsp guides are actually more helpful than these guides on youtube tbh.
@@Azrub Nothing is better than another. It depends on what you need. Eschuta gives more dmg than Hoto but that's it. Enigma is not as good defensively as CoH, but give great MF. In this case, OP asked what is the highest dmg setup.
For example, I farm AT with Cold Sorc with a moderate 500 MF but squeeze as much as 900 for Pindle. When I farm Chaos or Pit with Lightning sorc, I try to fit in a bit of MF, but for Baal, it's uncomfortable with less dmg/defense so I go all in with the Crescent Moon setup. And then there's the talk of clear speed vs MF, but I always get burnt out after the same number of runs, so clearspeed doesn't matter that much.
A bunch of people are saying they do 32k lightning damage with less gear than me. I can't seem to figure it out. I'm doing 22k light damage. Any ideas?

@@neillobrien6147 yeah man 94 with all synergies. Although my damage is now 29k(with 2 sojs, arachs, grifs, hoto, maras, spirit sheild and vipermagi) literally all bis gear with 3 light gcs and still not hitting the 32k people claim to have lol
Sure I could fit more gcs to increase it but my greens and my small charms already filly my inventory, it's really not a big deal tho, Im clearing chaos sanctuary in 2.5mins or less with seal pop. I'm just curious as to why the damage is lower than most claim to have

Probably more of a Hardcore build than specifically endgame. Mana isn't generally an issue since your points will be dumped into Energy instead of Vitality.
A lot of class builds are using enigma and CTA from your guides, how can I get those as fast as possible.(Might be off topic for this video but just wondering from someone like you)
Either Rune Farm and Shop/Farm for Socketed Items, or if on BNet trade for them.
I think this is the question all of us are going to be asking after about a week of playing the game. From what I have found there are a couple options, and all of them get better with higher players, so that's step 1. The areas I have seen farmed for runes are Arcane sanctuary for the specters (up to Cham), the council in Trav (up to Cham), any of the Finger mages in ROF/CS (up to Zod), or just regular old Hell Cows (up to Zod). The drop rates are stupid low, so anyone who has a better idea let me know :D

this build could be used to farm keys before you get expensive gear, countess, summoner, and nihlathak. Trade the keysets for high runes. Eventually get an infinity then you will be able to farm chaos better than hammerdin with enigma.
but i haven't played in forever and i don't know which build is ACTUALLY most optimal for starting out.
It's pretty slow till level 18 but then you really start taking off fast

I prefer running chain lightning. You still smoke everything just faster.
yeah im a noob so there must be something i'm missing but i don't understand why you'd spend so much on charged bolt or lightning, and yeah chain lightning seems to do me much better than normal lightning. i dun get it :(
@@AaronBowley You max the skills because Charged Bolt and Lightning add bonuses to Chain Lightning (% damage per level), but also I *THINK* Lightning is better than Chain Lightning for 1 target/boss damage. So you can swap between them based on situation.

@@AaronBowley i just double checked in game, turns out its what I said and a little more, Lightning actually pierces, kinda like bonespear, so against lots of stacked up enemies lightning has the potential to do more AoE damage too since chain ligjtning bounces a fixed number of times.

Blizzard will be solid ofc. But Ligth will outperform later on if you got very good gears like Infinity for your merc.
Blizzard gets close to 100% faster, but Lightning eventually gets to 140%
hands down cold sorc (until you get an infinity) after that you're wrecking everything in your path anywhere you go.
They need to fix that mana drain bug... If its not already.

Yes and no. You can build your soso based on this video, but your options thanks to the latest patch are better. I hope MrLlama updates these guides because sunder charms we got in 2.6 patch are game changing.

What are FCR frames?
The amount of frames that are required to cast a single spell in D2. In D2, only the GCD between spells determines casting speed. Every spell is “instant cast” and Faster Cast Rate lowers the amount of frames between spell casts. Hope that helps!

It’s a grind, but it’s worth it. My advice would be to farm/trade enough to get 2xLo and trade them for a Ber. Of course that’s no easy task in itself, especially considering that infinity requires 2 Bers. That’s how I did it, since I still haven’t found a Ber since launch.
I'm like halfway there, got a Lo and an Ohm rune drop the other day, still a far way to go though

Did you watch the beginning of the video?? 105is BP for all other skills 117BP is for Lightning and chain lightning
Breakpoints and Frame Rates are totally diff for a Light Sorc....it nerfs it just a bit. so even at 117 the frame rate is slower than 105 for Cold/Fire
