My Favourite Opening Against The Caro Kann!

  • This is episode 2 of a new series where I play rapid games against my subscribers from my discord server. My opponent today is Spector from my chess discord server who plays the Caro Kann Defense against me. As a Caro Kann player myself, I find it very difficult to play against as white which is why I've adopted the admittedly dubious 2.b3 gambit line against the Caro Kann. This gambit doesn't have to be accepted, which my opponent doesn't take, and can lead to some very similar positions to those seen in the 2.b3 French Defense where the gambit is declines (playlist linked below). Thank you again to Spector for agreeing to play today and I hope you can learn a lot from the analysis! Hope you find this educational/enjoy!

    I found it informative; especially around the middlegame strategy and pawn taking/not taking strategy. (personal weakness of my own game.)
    While the game appeared one sided, Spector fought well and found resources I'm not sure I would have under that time pressure.
    Congratulations on an excellent counterattack. I doubt I would have made as much counterplay. I suspect you're way underrated and will quickly cross 1000.

      Yeah he definitely seemed underrated, glad you found it useful despite the rating disparity and great to have you in the comments again :)

      @@ChessCenturion I'd imagine "rating disparity" is only an issue if the opponent is oblivious to threats and tactics. I imagine seeing you face 1200-1700 will provide the optimal insights as you'll stay in command of the game while also facing complications.
      Are you still considering starting another rating climb account?

      I'm kinda torn between continuing towards 2100ish, starting a new one or playing more versus subscribers

    Didn't find this video very educational. Specially from the black side. Maybe give them a handicap when there is this massive of rating difference. I feel like people who are low rated dont have a plan of attack or defense and they just play moves. five moves into the game and they already had a lost position. I feel like low rated players need more one on one coaching rather than a shalacking online. Chess first baby

      @@Kiwi-zz8ri right but is he trying to educate beginners or intermediate players? The road to 2000 would suggest that he is targeting intermediate players not beginners.

      @@ChessCenturion tough to say. I would say at least 1000 to be safe. Also depends on which audience you're trying to target. Watching so far it seems you're targeting intermediate players. So anything below the 1000 ELO I feel like isn't enjoyable for intermediate players. Unless you're trying to give a handicap so something then at least it would be entertaining if not educational.

    • @ChessCenturion
      @ChessCenturion  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understand both viewpoints, I think I'll generally target above 1000 range but I may play the occasional sub 1000 game as I do have a fair few beginner players watching anyway as well as intermediate

    Instead of g6 Ne7 looking to go to g6. and though ugly maybe defensible. After Ke7 h4, trying to get the knight to g6 via h4 if he takes it.
