    I know I'm late here but sure love these pickups as well. Seems like whatever combo of pickups or amps, you always come out with great tones. I recently installed Chris Buck's signature pickups into my strat and that's a nice set as well and the bridge pickup isn't harsh with a nice fat tone. Great demos and playing again!

      Thanks a lot man! Yep I came to the same conclusion. I sound the same with whatever pickups I install! The rabbit hole is not worth it 😂

      @@argbluesman I tell you what though, your tone and blues based playing style and phrasing is just fantastic. I always know whatever new video you post and play, you'll have great tone and great licks regardless of the equipment. It's in your fingers!

    Fantastic idea for a video series, and invaluable to distinguish between different high-end stratocaster pickups. If they're not being played through the same guitar with the same amp, settings and pedals etc it's impossible to compare them. What other sets are you planning to compare? I don't know if you have access to any but the ultimate would be to also do a reference video with some original pre-CBS pickups wouldn't it? A 70s grey bobbin set would be interesting aswell. Appreciate the effort you're putting into this I've done some A/B tests myself in the past and it's harder than you think to keep every variable exactly the same!

      I don’t have access unfortunately to such valuable pickups 😁 I wish!
      I started with the Ron Ellis 50/60, then this one, and the rest I will play it by ear. In the first video I mention that I wouldn’t say because I might change my mind or simple get some new set or something and then the first video would become obsolete. The next one is the Klein 1961 set made for SVL guitars.

    sounds amazing man!!! This red strat is incredible! What kind of radius does it have the neck?

    this one is way snappier than the Ron Ellis 50/60..can’t wait for the Mark Foley #1 shootout

      The #1 won’t make it to this series because I already sold them. Too much SRV. I couldn’t sound like myself with that set. It’s great though going that particular thing. 👍

    Is the reverb from the amp? How do you set the reverb's send knob? I can't dial my studio signature's to sound good with my fender ultra Strat... Too dark and uninspiring.....

    • @argbluesman
      @argbluesman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole chain is in the videos description. Reverb is from universal audio ox. But I have no problem setting up my classic reverb signature’s reverb honestly. I love it. I normally use both reverb knobs at about 10 o’clock.

      It's the noiseless pickups, I had them myself and they're shite

  • @blackfrancis33

    I just got an American Vintage 61 Strat with the Pure Vintage 61 pickups installed. Do you think there would be any difference to go to these pickups? They are like 3 times the price of the Fender ones the guitar came with!

    • @argbluesman
      @argbluesman  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Price has nothing to do. There are affordable pickups that are really good. And the most expensive ones are never 5 times better than the others.
      That said, why do you want to replace them? I would try. The only way of knowing is trying honestly. There’s no way to predict how a guitar will sound when we replace pickups. The guitar itself has a lot to do with it. Pickups aren’t 100% responsible for the sound/tone.

      @@argbluesman Thanks for your reply and advice. I did not know you had responded to me until I came back to watch the video for a second time! I am still thinking to try replace the pickups in the same guitar. Can I ask, of all the strat pickups you tried, which ones were your favourite?

    • @argbluesman
      @argbluesman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@blackfrancis33 like I said before. There is no way to predict how a guitar will end up sounding with any given pickups. Because the guitar has a given tone and it’s unique. I have installed the same exact set to two different guitars, and obtained two different results. Sometimes I liked one and didn’t like the other one. That says, once again, for me it’s about trying and finding the set that matches the guitar better. I currently love the 1961 set that Jim rolph wound for me, in my red Strat.
