100% agree. Emails should be to inform people of decisions. It should NOT be a channel for people to discuss and come to a decision. And thank you for for not being a content creator talking about how to be an effective knowledge worker. You're a knowledge worker creating content on the side.
I find all your videos so helpful and refreshing. Thanks for creating these. I also signed up for your newsletter, which you should add to your video notes for others to sign up.
Thank you for this video. It got me thinking about ways to improve my email communication. I work mainly with external companies. On a basic level, I only leave emails in my inbox that require action from me. Everything else goes into a folder for each specific project. However, as the people I'm interacting with are in different countries and work for different companies, email is the only practical way to discuss topics. Removing ambiguity from emails definitely reduces the number of emails exchanged on any given topic.
I wish I could have less folders I’ve noodled on this for years - but in my current job my most important work is client based so I have a folder for each client (current and prospective). I’ve found that there are odd times that I need to go back and see what was agreed upon years ago with a client when a dispute happens. So - I have tons of email folders. I really should archive a bunch to narrow down the list (mental note to self). Your “how I deal with email” tag is brilliant. Just downloaded the Make Time book. Like others I appreciate your videos - I look forward to when a new Jill video drops!
Just paused the video to let you know I spotted that you were missing the colon from the short form url on the sponsor read, but more importantly you’ve got http rather than https in the description link… p.s. Finished watching now, and I think this might be one of your best videos! I’ve saved it to favourites, so I can implement it as and when I can get back to work (long term sick for a while now unfortunately)…
Hello Jill thanks for this new video. This structuring and bucketing emails guidance is going to be defintely useful to declutter emails and manage well before I head to 2025. As others I too wait egarly for your next video ! What are the other topics you are planning to bring up ? How about automated email handling topic to the list ?.
I have thought about that. It would be the size that would tempt me specifically for note taking but then I weigh up everything I do on the pro and I think the mini would be a nice to have expense. It is very tempting though
Hi Jill , thanks for making your videos. I have been watching and waiting for for your content eagerly 😊. To put this into perspective for me, how many emails would you receive on an an average day. I have about 50 to 60 each day, all with information or tasks to complete. Many thanks.
Hi Jill, Appreciate your content very much. Keep it up! As a non-native speaker I cannot fully get the purpose of the Delivery folder? I don't really get what type of emails you file in it. Is it something related to real postal deliveries that is a part of your job or is it some results related emails you have to deliver to your boss or client? I'd be really thankful for your quick answer if possible.
Hi 👋, so when I refer to delivery I am talking about project delivery, equipment delivery, service delivery, or any form of delivery that we are contracted to provide to a customer. I hope that clarifies it for you.
Hey Jill, I really liked the video and your insights as I really struggle with the folder structure in my inbox. I like the concept of the folders you have. Do you still have sub folders under these three folders (or five) or do you really put every single emails just in those folders? Do you find everything again if you search for it? Thank you so much for your insights
Hi Chris, firstly thank you. Yes I really do just use these folders. The read now folder is emptied and moved into the core folders. And when I search for emails I always use the search function. Glad you enjoyed it. It’s made a huge difference for me.

Love all your videos, this one especially resonates with me. Going to add my email policy to my emails and stop “living in my inbox”!

Will check out Cal’s books.
Hello. I don't see the link to the article. Thank you for the video
Check now, thanks for the nudge
Curious now that mini iPad 7 is out do you think that would be better than iPad Pro 11” for the tasks that you do daily?

Same here - too many emails to keep up while being able to do work during the day. I often grow numb to the emails when they become too much.

@@Jillatcheckthebox❤ thank you. Got it
Do you use rules to get the emails into the folders?
I have rules set up for the “Read now!” Folder and it’s working really well for daily inbox reviews

@ thank you very much that you took the time to answer my question and the shared insights!
So, do you copy your email policy at the end of every email you send? The automatic respond wasn’t an option finally?
