You did a great job designing and building this plane. We in the hobby appreciate what you have done. Its not easy designing and building an RC plane, let alone making a video. I am not an expert at any of it but know enough to help others save money by giving people tips on how to get into the hobby. Any time someone can save money and get into the hobby, they can enjoy what they have done because its something they have done. Anyone can buy a ready to fly airplane if they have the money. Ignore those people that send you negative comments concerning your design and build. Those people have nothing better to do and couldn't design a soup can telephone on a string. Its a great hobby and hopefully many people have tried your plane.
This is a very good tutorial for the complete beginner. I'm about to embark on my first foam build with a precut kit, but I hope to follow up with some scratch builds.
I really enjoyed watching this video. Like a combination of plane builder and designer. Great job! I fly a ready made foam plane and have been amazed at the level of repairs that have been possible yet it still flies perfectly. My plane did not include your fancy landing gear design. I don’t think it has rolled truly straight for dozens of flights (this is tricky for take off but perhaps worse for landing because it is like applying vast amounts of braking force when it touches the grass at which point it would nose over and put the rudder into the turf). I plan to make a new gear support soon, meanwhile I have learned that a bit of throttle at touchdown keeps it on its feet. I hope to build up the confidence to try this design! Thank you for explaining each step with video showing the details!
Today printed your plan, started to build. Impresive. Very solid, simple, and well thought plan. Have suggestion wings are ~53 cm, but lot of people buying foam in 50 x 50 cm, it is used for ceiling, cheap to buy. If plane were 10% smaller, would be easier a bit. Another thing, have you tried to print plan on sticker? That way probably would be a bit faster, because, you can instanstantly cut sticker and foam.
Your videos are pretty amazing. The last time I flew a remote controlled plane was in the mid 1960s. It was a one button system that activated a solenoid on a rubber band loaded escapement. Things have certainly come a long ways since then. Thanks for putting out such wonderfully detailed videos on this great art. Be well, Isidro
I wanna build cloud149 cinewhoop but being a student I gotta save up a good time... I've bought flysky fs-i6x tx and use it for liftoff and velocidrone. Now I'mma get 2 2207 motors and 2 3s packs and get cheap esc and servos and mke this! At least I'll have something to fly as I save for my future drone❤
really appreciate the way you explained. it gave a lots of motivation to me . Finally i copied my first rc plane in same lines and really it flies well. thanks. only issue faced is given fine edge to the upper potion of wings.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Perfectly paced and well put together. I've been toying with a foam build for some time, so this looks to be the ideal starting point. You now have another happy subscriber |:o)
I am planning to make this plane out of corrugated plastic. If I were to use an internal combustion glow OS Engine, which size of glow engine would best suit this plane?
You have some nice design ideas I haven't seen in other foam board planes. Flies nice and slow. The problem is that for beginners, crashes are inevitable and foam board compresses and creases easily, usually resulting in major damage to the front of fuselage, wingtips, and tail structure. Though the materials are cheap, there's a lot of labor involved, and seeing my nice plane significantly damaged on the first flights is disheartening. Can you figure out how to make it a lot more resilient?
You can buy foam, paper sandwitch, it's very strong, or you can make it yourself, just glue stronger paper to both sides of foam. Or some people add scotch after build.
I've found in my first build of one of these larger joytrainer planes that you have room to add some weight by reinforcing some areas with thin hard types of wood. I've also found that when I have a hard crash it's easy enough to cut a piece off that broken and replace it with a new piece just glue it in and tape over it. I've had some hard landings and caused some severe damage. Took me a pretty short amount of time to repair in all cases. And repairing your model is kinda part of the fun in my personal experience.
Thanks to your video and links, I am building my first RC plane and I'm 74 years old. Thank you for that. I could very well do without the music though. Just building sounds are also a good soundtrack. The music you use does spoil the pleasure…a bit.
I'm really enjoying the process of building this. I skipped the lading gear but now I'm trying to make one - what are those things you used to secure the wheel in place in the wire? And the wheels, did you buy them? I'm thinking of making ones from foam
I just joined the course. I see a lot of plans ans videos on building planes but seem to go to fast or not explain everything. Youe channels does everything I need. Thanks
I love this and have had the plans printed and will be building soon. I want to add the same vinyl decals to mine specifically the JOY TRAINER. Can you share what font this is?
Hi Joyplanes, I just wanted to ask where I could buy the 2 pieces of a1 size, 5mm thick foam board and the landing gear wheels and wires? I can't find it on amazon. Thank you😃Btw, this video is very helpful.
For a begginer that is building the joytrainer mini is it better to buy a 3s baterry and a 2s one or two 3s ones (because my supplier does not have the 2s I want in stock)
What are Nessacary setting required for printing the A4 size paper

Hello. Can you tell me what is the weight of foam you are using? I think the one i bought is to heavy. 50x70 sheets are about 180 grams. comparing to previously used XPS which was 80 grams it is aloooot.
Not all FT planes are great. I have had to modify all the ones I made. Usually the angle on the firewall is not right and doesn't take in account the forces that make the plane want to turn left upon take off. Not one of their plans compensate for the issues involved. That being said, foam board is cheap so its easy to fix any issues with these planes. He does a great job on this plane and his design is pretty interesting concerning the curve of the wing instead of using the methods used on all of the FT plane wings.
Perfect? Have you actually built one? I have built two different models and both required modifications to fly. The angle of attack on the motor on both of them was off, I had to pull out the fire wall on the Tiny Trainer and readjust it. On the Simple cub, I had to add washers on one side so fix the bad tendency it had to bank severely to the left and down too much. No ,Flite Test planes are not perfect. If you listen carefully to Josh B, he even mentions making corrections or hints is more like it. Every RC plane requires adjustments eather through the transmitter or mechanically to make them fly better. There is no perfect RC plane.
Good video, useless plans with no identification printed on all the cutout pieces. Similar to a puzzle with all white pieces. After printing a random stack of unidentified patterns, I tossed them and drew my own. Worked fine and was much quicker than trying to figure out the pile of random cutouts.
Im looking at plans with notes as to what they are. They only pieces without notes are the two fuselage pieces and the vertical/horizontal stab. But its pretty obvious what they are, esp if you watch the video
@@Joyplanes No way! Lol, I can’t believe I never checked Easons. Must give a look at Vikingdirect too. Thanks for the info and keep up the excellent videos.
Even as an experienced pilot I have enjoyed your videos and wanted to build this plane for my 12 year old daughter. I downloaded the plans 3 different times in the tile format, it does not give me the floor or top or the wing spars or measurements also no detail for landing gear would really like to have
I built the Joytrainer (scaled it down to 70%) and it is powered by a 2200 KV motor and a 5/4 prop. It will not get off the ground! Everything checks out, center of gravity, control surfaces, etc. Any suggestions?
I'm no expert but if you are using a 2s battery use a 3s and see if the extra power is enough. A bigger prop could also work I guess. Which exact motor are you using?
@@Joyplanes its about 50% heavier than flitetest. if you make a flite test model. increase the wing area slightly to compensate for the extra weight, then they still fly great.. i love your planes as there designed for our heavier foamboard from the outset so build exactly to your specs and it'll fly great. keep the vids coming mate. thanks
Does anyone know of good local stores to get this kind of thinner XPS foam for sale in the USA? Cant find it at Home Depot or Lowes. Just thick roof and siding insulation and theyre 4'x8' sheets or something.. Great video! Id love to be able to make this but im having a problem finding the most important part, to the foam board lol..

Great build. Not many curvy parts, thus making the build easier. Will make a one for me soon. Keep the good work👌👌
i build the Joytrainer, very easy. And it was so fun to fly with it. So next, this one ! nice job guy, you helped me a lot

In the UK, Hobbycraft shops stock A1 size foamboard. I find that soaking any paper you want to remove is easiest... it just rubs off.
If I use 1000kv bldc motor with 10inc propeller, is it good for this size model?

Where you get your foamboard from in Europe ? I am not able to find a source, I am from Slovakia.

where are you from India? Foam boards are available on rcbazaar, Amazon India and few local shops at Pune and Mumbai.
