As a first time vr owner my only biggest issue was that Sony didn't give you microfiber cloth for the VR. I was probably one of the few who read through the manual and it mention that using any other kind of cleaning equipment could damage your lenses and the outside cameras. Were they expecting everyone to have owned a pair of glasses before? Also as someone who does have glasses, I usually use some sort of solution to clean my glasses. If, again it wasn't for me reading the manual (which realistically is on the downside of us as customers for not reading it) I could have fucked up my $580 dollar vr headset not even week one in. I just feel bad for anyone who might have chucked the manual, and did exactly that.

I owned the first one, and lost interest in it fairly quickly. I got sick easily on it, but it was pretty amazing. What I wanted was a true ace combat type game ( a full one, not the limited one you got).
I bought the new one, and it’s pretty damn impressive. The kayak game feels so realistic, I got sick in seconds, but I’ve been slowly building up a tolerance. The true goat is GT 7. It’s bloody amazing how immersive it is. Now if only I can get that level of quality, in a flying game. The one they have coming out looks promising, but I want a GT 7 level of detail, with ace combat level combat. Maybe have a true simulation option.
I understand the hesitation with a lot of people, as it’s a hefty price tag. I make lots of money, and I even cringed when I put the money down for it. Most of my friends don’t make enough to buy one, so I’m kind of alone in that regard: no friends to play with.
The one real disappointment so far is No man’s sky. It looks like you have a water filled fishbowl on your head it’s so blurry. They need to foveate that game to clear it up.

Foveated rendering I think is a game changer. The PS5 isn't powerful enough to drive the headset alone given it has more pixels than the Index, but it can keep up and render nice looking games. For me though I like the outside-in tracking of the Vive and Index, the precision is amazing and losing tracking just isn't really a thing. But I do hope this helps VR along, because we need more excellent games like Half Life Alyx.

@@stefanforrer2573 the point I was making was that there are a lack of games out there. I think it is because vr (even though it is more mainstream now) is still a relatively new thing and developers seem to be shy in regards to creating games for it. I'm really hoping for a VR port for Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, RDR2 and Alien Isolation.

VR gaming technology reminds me moving from 2D gaming technology to 3D at the end of 90s. It's unavoidable. 3D graphics were so rough at the beginning and most gamers hated, but it continued to improve more and more and eventually two decades later here we are. VR is an amazing immersion technology but its at first steps now. High selling price makes it unaffordable for most people, so game developers are not focusing it much. But when VR becomes more and more affordable and of course with tech continously improving we'll get to see game developers starting to priotize VR. Maybe two decades later we'll have VR social hubs and %100 immersive games like the movie Ready Player One (that movie was a high budget VR ad).

Hmmm. Not how I remember the move to 3D in the 90s. I remember everyone being blown away with the new 3D games being released simply because they hadn’t been seen it before, and it offered a new way to play games.
Final Fantasy 7 and Mario 64, the tomb raider games, Tekken, for example. Now, Looking back, they look awful with today`s standards, and many comment how it doesn’t look like we saw it as kids or teenagers. Most gamers loved 3D at the time, and we continued to enjoy the 2d games too (which are still enjoyed today)
It’s true though that 3D continued to make incredible advances. That’s true of VR now. The first time you use it you are blown away with it, but in years to come as it improves we will probably look back and be shocked we thought it looked amazing, as we do now.
The problem is cost, convenience, comfort, feeling sick after a while(for some people) and ground breaking must play games. I still don’t think they are enough must play games, yet, that people talk about and there`s peer pressure to experience it.

@Master Miller you know I was the exact same way. I saw psvr 1 and like move controllers and the headset looks funky and odd to hold. graphics and games looks kinda crap. the ones I saw someone play.
but I saw gameplay of psvr2 games and was like wow. those look amazing. I've always wanted to try vr but like you I thought it was kinda not for me. kinda dumb. but I went and purchased psvr2.
I have to say. the game on the flat screen is nothing compared to the game in 3d. it's an experience of a lifetime. I am vary happy with my purchase. yes the screen door effect is there but honestly it's not really noticeable once you start playing. my girlfriend has psvr1 which I never played. I watched her play skyrim on it and was like that dumb the any you move. but with the sticks you can move freely. wow game changer.
my girlfriends reaction to kayak vr she was blown away. I'm like whoa what am I in store for if she got blown away and she played psvr1.
I put the headset on and I was like wow. wow. wow. wow. wow. wow. at everything and every game I played. more and more blown away.
what I'm trying to say. psvr2. is the place to start. if you want to wait for a sale go ahead. but don't skip psvr2. it's a great headset. not perfect by any means. but I love it. vr is all I play.
so I went from flat screen games for 20 years. to vr one day 2 weeks ago and now that's all I play is vr.
this is an amazing purchase. I'm so happy.
I already bought 10 vr games and love em all.
my problem is I work so much. I am so overwhelmed in games but I will play them all. I cannot wait for the weekend to play more.
this headset is an easy 9/10 from me. you won't regret it. I recommend the psvr2 to anyone if you want to try vr for the first time.
the headset super comfortable to wear once you are used to it. super easy to use. controllers are great . I'm telling you straight up. YOU ARE MISSING OUT BIG TIME.

I get 4-5 hours of constant play on my controllers off a full charge before I get the low battery message. You can tweak settings to improve battery life if you need it to be longer. If you have the lenses touching your nose, you dont have the head set on. When you have it on properly, you shouldn't even feel the front part of the headset apart from the rubber around the face which I find really comfortable tbh because it doesn't add any pressure. The mura effect has been improved a bit since the recent patch as well, not completely resolved but noticeably enough.

It's actually a pretty good launch line up if you look at everything available, and not just focus on new exclusives. It's better than some console launches for sure, and not just the bad ones. And it's not average among what's available if you look at all its features and accessibility. Fire the shotgun in the RE8 VR tutorial, then check out the pitch black area at the end of it--you're missing out if you haven't tried RE8 yet. It has a demo that includes the tutorial.
Edit: Just saw the part where they both say Quest 2 is comfortable. Most people would say there is no comparison between the comfort of PSVR and PSVR 2 vs Quest 2 default strap. Though I do agree that it needs more padding. That will be solved by 3rd party--one size couldn't fit everyone, after all.
Joe obviously has no idea just how much better the lenses and displays can get. It won't feel like an incremental change with gen 3, and it wouldn't surprise me if they let people use their latest headset on PC at that point. Wireless could be far enough along by then as well.
All that said, I actually agree with "wait and see". I think a lot of us hold games against some future standard we have for VR. We want big games. We want to see that bigger games are being made. And we honestly haven't seen any further commitment to VR2 yet from Sony themselves--every VR game at the last State of Play was 3rd party. As an enthusiast VR2 owner, if I don't see 1st party trailers of PS VR2 games at the next showcase, I'm gonna have to say WTF.

Even if it has the cord if I’m being honest using Walking Dead as an example! Psvr2 blows quest 2 out of the water, it is honestly killing most Vr experiences because the headset is just so good and running off of the ps5 pushes most games to 4k 60-90! Personally yes I love wireless but I want quality over quantity and right now with just the controllers alone I’m having a Peak Vr experience I wasn’t having anywhere else!

The current PS5 cannot max out the potential of the PSVR2, which you can clearly see in some titles like HORIZON which is running at 60fps and interpolated to 120fps. So i would asume that there will be a PS5+ and the PSVR2 is ready for a PS6, which will most likely push the PSVR2 to it's limits. I also asume that there will be a wireless PSVR3 at some point with maybe the PS6 already being compatible to. I do think that wireless VR will be the only way to go for VR in general and although it's not 100% there yet, it will be in a couple of years. Also there is a lot of room for technical improvements. The PSVR2 already feels a bit outdated, even if you consider Eye Tracking features. VR headsets will be less than half the size in five years and have a much wider FOV as well as much better visuals.

@@fcukugimmeausername that's true. I am used to the Pico 4, which has pancake leneses and the edge-to-edge clarity is so much better and the sweetspot much bigger compared to the Quest 2 for instance. Although it's not perfect either.

nonsense. there is no need to waste power for 120 fps on a fixed platform. Even PS8 would have better graphics in 60 fps vs 120 on PSVR2 and any new game would choose 60.

I feel like they failed to justly explain foveated rendering, so I will. Firstly, foveated renderingis not unique to the psvr2 headset. What is unique is how the psvr2 does foveated rendering compared to other headsets. Other headsets assume ppl will mostly be looking in the center at most times, so they enhance the centers resolution while anything outside the center has lower resolution. Psvr2 brilliantly utilizes eye tracking with its foveated rendering so no matter where you look, it will look top notch and quality graphics/resolution while everything in your peripheral vision has lower resolution.

The biggest problem I have with VR is the retention aspect. When you first get one, it's fun, but immediately afterward, it's got dull, and I rarely played it. I've never beat a video game on it because the VR makes your head hurt after a while, so you can only play it in very small sessions
