So much deliciousness! I'm always astonished at how clean and immaculate not only the streets are but also public transportation. Clearly the citizens of Japan take great pride in their country. Also the way they package and present food also shows the same care. Love and blessings 🤗💗
I mean, I always love everywhere you go, but I must say this video in particular made me want to visit Sasebo so much! That Showa Era feeling, those delicious sandwiches, the sea, those narrow rodes just to get to wonderful bakeries. I will totally add it to my list. Nagasaki Prefecture has so many secrets!!!
I love Sasebo! I lived there as a child, when my Dad was stationed at the Naval base. And every summer we took the ferry to my Bachan’s home on Goto Islands. Your video brings back memories! The shotengai, sandwiches and castella!!
I walked much of the length of that shotengai late at night after most stores had closed. I had a Sasebo burger at a shop near the beginning of the covered shopping street. Yes that’s the place you ate at 19:00!
Thank you for visiting the Japanese city I called home and still do. The video was very well done. I love the Sasebo Burger. One of my favorites is from Log Kit. While the others are more well known if you leave the base and don't go though Nimitz park you could see it from the front gate. The first day out in town I walked that way and ended up there and asked what was good. Sasebo Burger....perfection. I will be going back this NOV and will make sure I have a few and add your C&B to the list. I love your merch, it would maybe do better if you had funny Japanese on them that said things like: "I don't speak Japanese but I love to eat... FEED ME!"
A line of shirts that tell the Japanese I love Japanese food and I love to eat. Or just with Kanji on one sleave and English on the other. We all love to wear kanji.
Love the walk to that station, al the alleyways and side streets. I did know Sasebo was famous for their burgers, but not that everything had to be locally made. That maruboro looks like an eierkoek hahaha a dutch fluffy bread like disk made with eggs (litterally the name means egg cake).
It's been over a decade since I was last in Sasebo. Amazing little port city. Just watching the footage brings back lots of memories. Especially that footage of the bridge next to Sasebo park... :)
I am so glad I got to see this video before leaving sasebo! The food here is amazing and now I have more areas to explore especially trying out the food!
Thank you for giving me a new bakery to try. I also didn’t know about the sandwich! Can’t wait to follow your steps up the mountain( or maybe drive 😂) Sasebo!
OMG I bet that Gouda bun would be AMAZING if it were warmed in an oven for a bit so the cheese gets nice and melty. Gouda is one of my favorite cheeses!
Thanks so much guys for this great video! I've been watching your videos for a couple of months now and generally have been watching a lot of Japan food videos but this was the first that featured Sasebo, my mom's birthplace. Now I want to see more of the place and all it has to offer.
I let the owner know this video inspired me to visit and try their burger. She was so excited. Seems she is trying to find a way to promote her shop. I’ll update on how it was, but thank you for the recommendation. I am a bicycle tourist, but sasebo is a nice destination. Its comfortable but not to crowded with tourist.
This video is awesome I absolutely love it thank you so much for showing me this one shinichi and satoshi this is absolutely incredible my friends cheers you 2 for all of your great success I'm both happy honored and very proud of you guys thank you so much from the bottom of my heart itadakimasu please enjoy these wonderful foods to your heart's content and I will see you on your next live stream have a great day god bless you both 👍😎😁✨🏆✨💙
This is my comfort channel. I’m 26 and been watching since I was 19, when I first got so curious about Japan and the more local aspect of it. Back then I watched TH-cam very regularly, but over the last 3 years TH-cam hasn’t been a priority. Just remembered this channel and found it in my subscription. This is comfort, seeing them brought me instant joy, so happy this channel is still here and now I have lots of catching up to do!
That bread sounds amazing. Looks amazing as well and is worth every step you took to find it. I am dreaming about bread like this. I’ve been looking for about two weeks. I cannot find a decent bakery in my area to save my life. You are extremely lucky.
Next time you are in Sasebo, you must check out Daizen. It’s located on the outside of Sasebo station. It’s a Michelin rated champion restaurant, and a bowl will only run you ¥1000. Also Ton Chin Can is another must, it’s really popular local Yakitori restaurant.
I love baking bread, pizza, making pasta..bread is so basic, but so much variation. If you guys want to try at home, Brian Lagerstrom has the best ciabatta I’ve ever had, much less baked at home. Some specialized equipment helps like a cast iron bread pan with lid, but you can improvise with a foil roasting pan. Very fast mixer speed works a miracle on a wet dough you think has no hope of clearing the bowl, but be patient, it will work, just keep turning up the speed..it’s wet enough that it won’t kill your mixer.
We are going to kyushu in April! I hope i can try this out, but currently our itinerary does not take us to sasebo. For the north west, we only go as far as Huis Ten Bosch. Hopefully there is enough time to get a side trip to a place that serves sasebo burgers near that area. Be happy to hear if anyone has recommendations.
I only ever heard of Sasebo Burger from the TV Show YOUは何しに日本へ? (I think it was/is on NHK?) because they had some American guy who said he only went to Japan to try a Sasebo Burger XD Also even though I don't like Japanese Bread, the Gouda one might be really nice ... I always have to go to one of those Kaldy Coffee places to find Gouda in Japan (nur sure if it changed yet) and they only ever have young one ... here in Europe I always eat the old Gouda which is at least 12 Month old.
We call those cucumber sandwiches! Miracle whip is right! A little sweet. Adding a couple more ingredients like what you got sounds like a great idea! No wonder it’s famous 😋
that maruboro or whatever it was called, looks like an Amerikaner without the glase. That's a german pastry/cake-snack. It's looks like that maruboro but the flat side up and glased with some icing. Usually the cake part is lightly lemon flavoured but it can be vanilla as well. The glase can be decorated, for halloween it gets spiderwebs or a pumpkin picture and is colored, etc. The usual one is plain white.
I love how that french toast has a crusty exterior (I heard the crunch!). Oftentimes french toast is mushy, that's why I don't like it. I'd love to try this one even if I have to climb up the mountain for it haha
Still nibbling at the rest of my breakfast but those french fries and the burger made me want your food! Not a fan of bacon but I would eat this for sure. The price too seems really good. A large me at McDonald's has been costing about 10$ here (burgers large fries and a 500ml drink) lately so I'm positively surprised and also sad that I'm all the way over here in Austria :p
Hello Shinchi and Satoshi Have you ever tried Sugar and Cinnamon on warm pretzels? Satoshi . It's not too strong and it's nice on warmed pretzels. So do you have a store making Large Pretzels. I love mine cut up but it doesn't taste good cold. I think I would be our on the Cinnamon and walnut bread as I don't like walnuts. Good luck Satoshi. I love your video. Take care Satoshi and Shinchi xx
Please feel free to stop me, if you have already answered this question: Are you and Satoshi-san planning to visit Hawai'i this year? Keep up the awesome work. And, take care.
Hi @tabieats... I would love to come back to Japan now that covid is over, but I notice everyone is still wearing masks inside AND outside. How long do you think before mask use becomes less common?
Hi boys. I have a small request....could you maybe do a non-egg Japanese meal review someday? Unfortunately I have a pretty severe egg allergy, which limits my choices as far as sandwiches and other meals that contain egg as a main ingredient. I can tolerate most breads, and even castella cake, but egg right on the sandwich, would probably land me in the hospital.
Use our code TABIEATS to get $15 off your first Bokksu Japanese snack box!

My granddaughter loved her Bokksu.
I had port calls in Yokosuka and Sasebo when I was in the US Navy in the mid 1980's. Such a good experience. Stay safe, guys.
So much deliciousness! I'm always astonished at how clean and immaculate not only the streets are but also public transportation. Clearly the citizens of Japan take great pride in their country. Also the way they package and present food also shows the same care. Love and blessings 🤗💗
This video brings back a lot of good memories of being in Sasebo.

Definitely a hidden gem in Japan.
I lived in Sasebo for 5 years and loved my time so much.
I was fortunate enough to see the Navys' 7th fleet come into Sasebo Naval air station in 1961 It's a big Navy area
I love Sasebo! I lived there as a child, when my Dad was stationed at the Naval base. And every summer we took the ferry to my Bachan’s home on Goto Islands. Your video brings back memories! The shotengai, sandwiches and castella!!

Sasebo love the name the location and the food is very good. Those sandwiches looked great Shinichi I liked how the package them ready for a picnic.

Thanks guys for doing this review in Sasebo, this is part of a planning full day even while I visit Japan with a famous chef. Cheers!
Thank you what a beautiful place! I enjoyed every minute. I wish it was a little longer. I’m looking forward to your next video. 🤗

7:18 I think you should make this a regular segment of your videos: "Trains with Satoshi" so we get a bit more info on the stations and trains!

There are no Michelin Star restaurants in Sasebo. While Diazen is good and highly regarded it does not have a Michelin rating at all.

Joshua Weissman has an awesome soft burger/sandwich bun recipe too..
Me feverishly typing away adding to the list. Husband- Let me guess, TabiEats just posted a new video. Me- Yes! And it looks so goooood!!!
Thank you for this fun and informative video. My husband and I will be in Sasebo on October 25th, 2023, as one of our cruise destinations.
What a charming town!! I love it. It reminds me of San Francisco and some towns in Arizona.
I love you two and your culinary adventures!

You can get pretty good Sasebo Burgers inside Huis Ten Bosch.
japan in my openion has the best food both visualy and taste. pluss the portion is less so you can try other foods.
Wow from what you have shown Japan has some awesome ways of feeding y'all and adorable items too. Keepin their people happy and content

That portugees cake we have too in The Netherlands, we call it an Eggycookie. Looks exactly the same
Very appetizing video I got so hungry 😁 I never thought it would get so cold in Kyushuu
Awesome
Wait, there's more than just burgers in Sasebo? ;)
What else would the burger brothers want though?
I wonder if you guys will make your way to Huis Ten Bosch....
Just planning our next trip to Japan, now I have to figure out how to fit Sasebo in just to try the burgers!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
We call those cucumber sandwiches! Miracle whip is right! A little sweet. Adding a couple more ingredients like what you got sounds like a great idea! No wonder it’s famous 😋
That all looked delicious.
yum
Loved all the food
Will you ever travel by ferry to somewhere
Those breads are absolutely worth the 20 min of stairs 😍 I’m curious about the veggie burgers in Sasebo. They have them too, right?
that maruboro or whatever it was called, looks like an Amerikaner without the glase. That's a german pastry/cake-snack. It's looks like that maruboro but the flat side up and glased with some icing. Lol the sea birds will come to say hi at the harbor if they smell food 😂
oh, how beautiful!

I always tell everyone the best burger I ever had was in sasebo that was in 1981 😂
Did you like the bread enough to go up that hill?!
I would like to know too.
mm gimme a bit of that yummy burger!
Please do a 100 yen shop haul
Thankfully they had a wrapper for Satoshi. I was expecting the gloves to come out. Looked like an amazing burger and fries.

We took the ferry from Okinawa to Sasebo once everyone was puking all over the place.
Please feel free to stop me, if you have already answered this question: Are you and Satoshi-san planning to visit Hawai'i this year? Keep up the awesome work. And, take care.
Good food and burger , bread cheap too
Hi @tabieats... I would love to come back to Japan now that covid is over, but I notice everyone is still wearing masks inside AND outside. How long do you think before mask use becomes less common?
Love all the delicious foods y'all shared. I wish I could be in Japan to visit all the places you feature. Please don't wear masks.
Hey I live here
KEWPEE makes it better.
Satoshi, I noticed you have a sty on your eye. It may get bigger if you dont get it removed.
Please release the bird attacking footage. It fact you should make a bloopers video. Do funny things happen often?

New drinking game: every time Shinichi says his mouth is small, take a shot.
Thats were i was born 1968
I love Sasebo
Awesome
