    I'm disappointed, this is about data transfer in apps, but I was looking for securing the actual app, e.g. to prevent scraping of connection strings

    Trusting an average app developer on having top-notch security implemented in the app is so silly. I think security is about the least consern to getting an app ready, on average. But it's the real world situation, facts. I'm really interested in how the future turns out in here. You could keep educating users and developers, or find some kind of a blanket solution (which could be most impactful).
