See the discussion on its Thingiverse page. Basically trim any strings you can see between the petals, then push up on the bottom of the inner ring, while pulling down on the outer ring. You might need to use an exacto knife first if your first layer is too squished and bonds together.

It would be really cool if you could integrate the switch in the design so it turns on when you open it and off when you close it.
Right now it has a 3.8W, 200 lumen LED bulb, and it never even gets warm.
But an artichoke IS a flower!
