Very nice video and cabinet! Really like the wooden dowels.

Cool, I hadn't thought of using the dowels instead of screws but that is a great idea!

Nice cab! I’d have done it in pine since you’re making an acoustic guitar amp. Pine is GREAT for clean and mid gain guitar tones. I’ve made a couple and it makes a big difference. Birch ply might be better for the baffle as it would hold up better to vibration. It’s slightly harder to cut holes in tho. And finally,I’d have used finger joints with access to that killer table saw you got there! But dowels are good.

Nicely done. MDF is a no go for me though. I basically look at the stuff like it’s the plague. Any moisture gets to that it will begin to break down. Glorified cardboard. I do like the size of the amp and how you are constructing it. Will watch the rest!

That invisible ruler at 2:17 seems handy.

Consider inserting dowels at 45 degree angle so they cross section both pieces of ply.

I'm just building a little wooden box with a plexiglass front for some bluetooth speakers, do you recommend making the front loose (in a 1/8" slot all the way around the front) or gluing and screwing it in place?
Oh and I'm thinking about making it all closed except for a sound hole. I'm betting a loose panel will rattle too much. Not sure how big to make it, but I'll probably put it on the bottom and/or side since it's going to be above my computer desk

I saw another approach for those that don't have clamps. Use screws to hold the but joints as they glue. Then remove a screw, drill it out and insert the dowel to the same hole, then repeat with the next screw.

Do you have the plans or the measurements you used? please. I didn't find them in the note on your page either...

    How good is it?

So How do you know how big or how small to make the cabinet?? Speakers require certain amount of Air in the box for efficiancy.

I kept the same volume as the original cabinet the speakers were in.

Use Baltic Birch void-free cabinet grade plywood. No putty is better.

I would have made it a different speaker arrangement, you have small ones and big ones, you won’t get the max out of your amp

You were doing all right until you introduced MDF into the build. Why did you choose that as the material upon which to mount the speaker? I’m asking because I’m about to build my first speaker cab. I’m an experienced woodworker with all the proper tools, and am looking for insights from others who’ve done this. Your video, for example, was valuable to me in that I was going to use glued and screwed butt joints, using trimhead wood screws, and the round over all the edges with a router, but now I’m gonna use dowels and glue. Much better idea. Thanks, amigo! Got a G12T-75 from Ipswich that’s lookin’ for a home, and I aim to build it. That is why I hope you’ll take a moment to answer my question about the MDF. Not judging, just trying to learn more. Peace, man.

I used MDF because I had a piece big enough lying around. A plywood baffle would resonate better which is part of why people like old fender champs and princetons.

MerwinMusic Thank you for responding. I now understand why you used MDF, and I thank you again for the info. I am gathering materials and will likely be building the cab next weekend. So, so stoked! 😎

I have an old Jenson plywood (with veneer around it) speaker cabinet that uses thick MDF (or maybe particle board?) for the baffle. I think it was a material of choice due to its density and uniformity. It does have to be sealed to keep moisture out, which it was. Really heavy though.

Great work. However just go by a used cabinet. Without all the work besides. The cost of materials is about the same as. As one already made.

environmentally sounder, too. It would be recycling, you're not using energy, and not producing waste products. Not risking injury from powertools or chemicals for wood treatment, etc. either. This is more like how-to-avoid-your-wife-project than anything else. ;p
