  • Vaslui in North East Romania is often referred to as the poorest place in the European Union. We went there to see what it was like.

Glad to have you on board! We'll try to keep it up and if it's not overstepping the mark, perhaps even get better - Sebastian

Ollie smacking his head on that seat explains a lot of things. Lovely video, boys. Interesting to think why it's the "poorest country" if in experience it's very much like the rest of the continent. I'm all the richer for watching this though? See what I did there? 😉

Ollie nodding off on the train... finding Joyce and Seb falling in love... what lovely experiences! Interesting that people register their addresses to enable EU citizenship? Wish we could have kept our EU citizen status in the UK... enjoyed your film guys, Romania looks lovely. Great watch to start the weekend.

It is not correct to say that Moldavian people just register their address to Vaslui and automatically receive an Eu citizenship. Until 1940 Romania and Moldova were the same country, therefore Moldavian people that can prove they have Romanian descendants can apply for Romanian citizenship. Anyway, good job showing the truth about Vaslui. Even big western cities like London and Paris have their poor/bad areas. This video may not be spectacular because you did not found a poor city, it may be spectacular because you broke a misconception about Romania. You should come back in the summer for a full tour of the country.

@@PahoNGM Thank you for helpfully clarifying the citizenship issue... this has helped develop my and hopefully other people's understanding.

nice video and happy to see you liked Vaslui county! I am a bit dissapointed you haven’t researched more, the ruined house from Solesti is the memorial house of Elena Cuza ( wife of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, first ruler of Romanian Principalities). She is buried next to the church, near the house. The ruins shows exactly how much we care about our history and the lack of culture across the entire country.
Vaslui city is beautiful and you miss Copou park which is fantastic!
Please spend more days in Romania, you will love it :)

Thanks Madalina. We researched Elena Cuza and visited her grave but it didn't make the final cut. I didn't realise it was her house. Glad you enjoyed the video. Ideally we would have had longer to spend in the area - Sebastian

Lovely. They might not be rich in money but rich in happiness and life. I wonder would you see so much happiness and life in the worlds richest country.

0:10 Doesnt your map actually show that the bulgarian regions are the poorest in the EU ? Bulgaria's gdp per capita is 30-40% lower than in Romania.

I never understood why everybody say we're poor af, and same time they come to visit us. That's like: "Yo , what a shitty country! Let's do a vacation there and spend all our money!"
In fact, we have much more expensive stuff , for example Mamaia has crazy expensive hotels and clubs.

mamaia is shit and we are poor af
the ones who left the country and returned after many years can afford a lot of the expensive stuff
the most of us don`t even have enough money for heating and electricity....

There are so many stereotypical jokes in Romania about that place, you can't even!
Next time, pass through Iasi, you'll like the place!
