The sound in person was always so much fuller and the background vocals were marvelous. The albums always give a very flat toned down version of what the actual performances are in person. Different energy. Nothing like a live, experienced vocalist and Miss Peggi Blu can really sing!

Incredible!!! I remember seeing this on Broadway with the original cast. (I'm that old, yes...) I also vividly remember the tornado scene which was just starting as this cut off. That dance was GREAT! I wish I could see a video of the original! Anyone????
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! I saw Stephanie in a tour of the Wiz years ago and this song was one of my favorites...but I always felt the studio recordings were so low key compared to the live performance. This video can back me up on that now! :D

When I saw it in '75, it was Dee Dee Bridgewater doing the Ant part. This version here is in '84.
