@SuperFamousstars Air Combat Officers (ACO's) fly in aircraft but look after the airborne electronic systems. Some ACO's work from the ground as well. Search DefenceJobs for Air Combat Officer if you want more information.
barbarshater they're likely to be digital compression or frame freezing artifacts. If you look frame by frame above the tails lightning bolt insignia you'll notice that the image fades, judders and blurs till about 1.41/1.42. Frame by Frame compare that to the lightning bolt itself which is adhered to the tail and doe's not react the same way as the phantom image your seeing.
@tsneal101 I think you are seeing an optical illusion created by the construction of the tail itself. Go to the Air Force Image Gallery and search for 20100319raaf8540677_0018.jpg and you will see the tail in greater detail.

Hi. I was reading the description and requirements for becoming an air combat officer. In the 'The Future' section it says that ACOs will be "... needed to transition emerging capabilities such as Space...". Does that mean an ACO have a chance to be recruited as an astronaut? and what job in the Air Force would give you a greater chance to be recruited as a pilot (seeing most astronauts eg. Nile Armstrong, were chosen from the US Air Force.)? I am really interested. Thanks.

Ahahha, younger: Year 9 :P. I know they have the ATA on wingtip and outer pylons, and on the inner two you have your ATG weopanary. Center-line pylon is normally for a fuel tank and on one variant of the F-18 you may have some AIM-9s along fuselage pylons.
Hello, I am a young pilot, and loaning to fly at a young age. I am very keen, this is a great vid as it shows it, but one thing. How did this F/A-18F manage to shoot down 2 MIG-29s and blow apart a ship with not a single weapon!
I know its a stupid question but I never came across the answer, but does the ADF use the metric system? Example, is an aircraft 2000 feet in the air or is it 610 metres in the air?

Are you selected to be either ground or air as an ACO or do you get to chose witch one you would prefer and if so what aircraft you would be working on?.

if you want to be an astronaut you will first have to be a fast jet pilot, from there the best of the best will be selected to train as an astronaut, very slim chances though.....but if you keep your mind focused on it then there's nothing stopping you from getting your dream
They have wingtip air-to-air missiles, but I was wondering that as well; after the first is destroyed, they still have a missile on each wing! I also wonder if they have weapon bays in the hold for AGMs. Btw I'm also a young pilot; only in Yr.11 :)

Yep we use feet. I'm not actually in the ADF but I fly and we use that. Its a standard so international planes don't get confused when they come here haha
I went for an Army interview last year and the old guy who interviewed me treated me like absolute dog shit, wouldn't accept my as a rifleman (second preference) because I never went out camping, didn't go hunting, didn't play any sports, and denied me the job I expected this attitude once I would IN the army but not at my Interview, so I'm going to study up and give it my last shot and and try for the air force since a lot of my friends think it's so much of a better career in there.
Does the air force have work experience for year 10 students in 2014?
There is a gap year for those after Year 12.

history.....look at astronaut biography's. Obviously NASA aren't going to recruit people who have never flew before, and they need people who can withstand the g forces and the speed of the shuttle whilst still being relaxed and in control of the shuttle.....so the best way to do that is recruit fast jet pilots due to the experience they've had.

All military use metric, imperial is just for civilians.
The US is big on imperial system but the military use metric, I worked with them.
So too does the scientific community imperial system is dying out as it's inefficient.
