I have the Fenix 8 Solar and the new MIP is really good. The change to the solar panel makes a world of difference on screen clarity. This is a different point than yours on a better backlight too - those combined are awesome, plus the battery life benefits.
@@JasonRaneses yes completely! I never did get to test the F8 solar so that really helps to have that feedback. I feel like I have heard from other reviewers that it is even a little bit more enhanced on the instinct three, but hope to see it in real life at some point
@@fitgearhunter Anecdotally, you'd expect the MIP display on the F8 to be better than lower tier watches in the current lineup, at least based on price point. That said, Garmin tends to use a lot of common parts between watches. Side note on firmware stability, things have been pretty good for me over the past month, relative to the hiccups during the initial launch. About 26 days projected in smartwatch mode. Practically it'll be less with workouts and so on, but fairly on point for the 47mm.
@@fitgearhunter Garmin removed the solar layer from the Fenix 8 Solar main display and only have it on the outside. Therefore more comparable to older non-solar versions. It seems they did the same with the Instinct 3 here. The other thing is that color MIP loses always contrast and clarity compared to a B/W due to that extra color layer. Kind of like Kindle Paperwhite compared to Kindle Colorsoft. Several of the Pro version unfortunately also have the sapphire layer. If you go for AMOLED Instinct 3 though, I'd think there are much better options especially at 50mm (Enduro/Fenix 8/965 etc.). Not sure the target for Instinct 3 AMOLED since it always seemed more a G-shock type daily watch where the extra b/w display clarity and battery life were the unique selling points.
@@JasonRaneses They can't really make it easily better on Fenix 8 (other than resolution and size) since it's B/W vs color multi-layer MIP display. Every layer reduces clarity and contrast and Fenix Pro have additional solar layer and sapphire layers (at least they removed the solar layer on F8 main display). So there's simply a trade-off for color (just look at B/W vs Color K3 E-readers). We don't have yet big improvements for passive color displays (but who knows with Kaleido 4).
What would you think of the 265 vs Instinct 3 - I'm into my running and want the running analysis etc but love the ruggedness of this instinct 3 with MIP?
