That just depends on how strong the body of your car is 😂 I've seen cars up here in the north where you could only jack them by the side if you tried to jack them by the jacking points they would crush in so what we would do is take a longboard cut a channel in it and then set that right between the bottom bit and then jack off of that

I jack up my car and rest the car on jackstands under either the control arms or the k member subframe, i DO NOT trust those "jack up points" especially on a pinch weld, anything that is solid and connected to the frame i.e control arms, or subframe

    1. Oil filter info is not on the fill cap
    2. You don't need to prefill oil filter...especially if it is installed sideways like some vehicles where you can't prefill anyways; if you do at least explain it accounts for a portion of the oil the vehicle calls for so people arent confused
    3. Put the jack stands on the frame, not the fender
    4. Replace the oil plug gasket
    5. Hand tighten AND quarter turn the oil filter
    6. Please delete this so you dont ruin someones car

Ok people are complaining about where he jacked the car, the condition of the oil he's changing and the, filling the filter, even the damn Temp of the oil being changed.
He jacked the car properly, it made contact with the FRAME of his SPECIFIC vehicle. Some cars have pinch welds on the frame to indicate that you're in the right place and also the best point to jack up the front and rear of the car from.
That oil could be mint coming out of that pan it doesn't matter if you change it too early it doesn't hurt the engine it can just be wasteful at best. He probably drives this car pretty hard and needs to keep the oil as friction free as possible.
The temp of the engine oil while you chnage it or temp of the car doesn't help as much as you think. Especially if you don't let the car settle for a while after it runs. The oil's temp matters next to none if you're changing it, it comes out at relatively the same speed as if it were hot. Oil only needs to be at OT when CHECKING it not changing it.
Filling the filter is absolutely fine if your filter screws in from the bottom. It will not introduce anymore dirt into the filter than your dusty ass environment will while letting it sit dry.

  • @jessehuffman6347

Oil cap doesn't always have the oil weight on it. That being said if you don't know and it doesn't specify what oil you need in the owners manual then call the dealership and give them the last 8 of your vin. Also most vehicles include the filter capacity when it tells you how many quarts to put in your car. When your done turn the car over for about 15 seconds then check the dip stick. That the correct way to check your oil after you change it. Also prefilling the filter may or may not let small particles into the engine and cause damage.

Its to stop the engine running without oil for the length of time it would take to fill the filter, had you not filled it before hand. Prevents the engine running dry for longer than it needs to.

      @wolfvash22 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

I am also used to do that (I like to be very meticulous), but later I learn that is mostly a waste of time and oil.
What we drain is just the “deposit" of the oil, but the rest of the system (pump, passages, bearings, heads, lifters, etc.) will still be full of “dirty oil" and to be precise, is this rest of the system; rather than the deposit, what we really want to be clean.
Another reason why not to do it, relays in the chemistry of the oil, as they are formulated to act as a “detergent" of the engine, so the brand new oil will do its job cleaning the old oil deposits.
As a perfectionist myself, I won't blame you if you still stick to your routine, it doesn't do any harm after all.

I see few people in comments about the prefilling of the filter but only one got the reason right. Prefilling your filter (the center part that you fill is the clean side of the filter) can add any unwanted matter into the clean side of the system, Motorcraft also specifically states to not prefill. Also oil filters have a bypass hole on them so at first startup, just enough oil will get through to not seize the engine, but use the filter part once it's filled.
Big part of working on your own car is making mistakes and learning, keep at it!

All these people saying to not prefilled the filter. Guys, it really doesn't matter if you do or don't. Modern vehicles make oil pressure so fast it'll fill the filter almost instantly. And there is always a film of oil on everything inside the motor. On the other side, nothing is wrong with prefilled it either, makes it more accurate checking the oil since filters hold ~1/2qt.

Hell sometimes i don’t fill the oil run the engine and then fill again, i just fill exactly how much i know it’ll take and it’s spot on everytime. It’s not a make or break, the oil will still be changed and the car will still run fine. It’s not like you’re gonna blow up your engine because you didn’t let the oil get warm before draining it.

  • @andewfusthe3rd

I’ve never understood prefilling the oil filter, which is also an exceptionally unreasonable process for me and my vehicle in particular as the oil filter is on the front of the engine aiming downward to drain into the pan, so prefilling would only make a huge mess for me, most vehicles it wouldn’t cause any issues so I’m not really against it other than feeling like it’s generally pointless
