The Comrade was correct about the exchange rate in the late 1970’s. In 1978, I remembered exchanging N500.00 for $775.00, when I was traveling to Canada. Now, times are really changing.
Cocoa is now gold. Trading in cocoa and other agricultural produce like Cashew nut, ginger, gum Arabic are now beyond our financial capabilities. They are now being traded and bankrolled by foreigners. There was indeed a country. Thank you Comrade and Agbaman for taking us back down the memory lane.😢
Comrade Dam talks so much sense. He is 100% spot on. As for NGR and NGRNs, God won't help us, we have to help ourselves. God is busy, very busy with better things.
I always enjoy Comrade speaking extensively about the what,When, Where, Why and How of the Nigerian state. We have indeed gone astray far into the dark….
Chief Awolowo left yakubu Gowon Administration in 1971. The oil boom started in 1973. Shehu Shagari became finance minister in 1971 succeeded Awolowo. It is the same Shagari that later became Nigerias President in 1979. That's the genesis of Nigeria problem.
It's as if am among this panelists. You spoke my minds very well. Nigeria has deteriorated deep down so badly. Electricity through privatisation like obasanjo did to mtn glo and others will promote industrialisation.
Point of correction! Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was not the federal commissioner for finance in 1973. He was the federal commissioner for finance and vice-chairman of the federal executive council between 1966 and 1970. He resigned his appointment in 1970/71
Actually , Chief Awolowo joined the yakubu gowon administration in 1967 February after consultations with his political associates whether he should join the federal military Govt.
The Lagos State Government of the Late Major General Mobolaji Johnson initiated the ring road of the outer Marina to join the old Carter Bridge, to Ebute - Metta and to Third Mainland Bridge. Eventually he pleaded the Federal Government headed by General Babangida to take over the bridge which he completed before going to Abuja.
Actually, The late Mobolaji Johnson was never a Major General. He was retired from the Army on July 29th 1975 as a Brigadier. It's true he initiated the third Mainland Bridge. In conjuction with the Gowon Administration. These projects were implemented by succeeding Administrations until 1979 when shagari took over as president. Because of his unpopular Administration he terminated the project Adekunle junction. Babangida eventually completed the bridge at oworonshoki.
If you earn 400 thousand and you have just a wife and a kid, you will be living well and having surplus for savings. However when you are earning the same salary and you have 10 children that money is not enough. Based on that analogy, what's was the population of Nigeria at that period, what is our population today? Hence, if we have to aim for self-sustenance, we have to factor out present circumstances into the equation. There's a reason why the big countries are very serious about their borders and population database. I believe the first step in the right direction is to call a national conference to determine if we want to stay together as one or split. If we are staying together, how do we proceed? Are we going to proceed as a confederation, or a federation? Then we need a database of identities and good border control. Then our 20 year plan is to focus on quality education from primary to university to ensure in the next 20 years we will produce world class, brilliant educated youths who will take over in the future.
For that 20 years government funds should be focused on state owned farms that will send food through state owned outlets. The Buhari administration tried to empower independent farmers however, corruption took over. Let the government create Nigeria farms or state owned farms that will employ farmers and pay them salaries instead
Many people agree that the Western world, especially the UK, is our problems, that they never want us progressing, which I totally disagree with. Your guests analyse the sources of Nigerian wealth, and with that, we are getting close to our solutions. We need to compel our government and encourage the citizens on mechanised farming and work on refinery and power supply. With those three things, Nigeria will be temporarily healed, pending our secession, which is imminent. After the secession, the second thing to face is religion.
Forget about Nigeria coming close to the developed world in social and economic development because as America is moving at the jet rate Africa is moving at the bicycle rate.
I think the government is wicked with the high tariff on anything going in and out of the country in the name of income generating while the money generated is being stolen, squandered, or mismanaged. Adjustments on this is another succour. So unfortunate, this invited speaker and the readers are helpless, since there's no measure on ground to implement all these analysis.
Nu is very controlling. but two skit friend julie and T should not marry because their profession can crash anytime. Julie should marry a neutral profession.
Please don't annoy people the more by exonerating Tinubu from the happenings in the country.Who led protest against Jonathan and who brought in and vouch for Buhari? From the onset he has been part of the government from the on set.

Giving full autonomy to the Local Government is a Brillant idea. I’m in support of it.

Agbaletu, you have nailed the fact.
There are certain things that the government ought to have done before introducing these policies
It's as if am among this panelists. You spoke my minds very well.

Point of correction: Obasanjo did not pay our debt but paid the interest accrued from the debt.
