I was fortunate enough to befriend Marian for 5 years when in 1979 a Jazz fan and Founder of the New Jersey Jazz Society, Jack Stine, arranged for Marian to play with the Somerset County College Community Orchestra in their 10th Anniversary concert. For the 4-5 rehearsals before the concert, I would drive into NYC and pick her up and drive her to North Branch NJ where the orchestra was based. After the rehearsals I would drive her back to her home in Baldwin Long Island NY. After the concert we became friends and I would see her at appearances in the tri-state area (NY/NJ/PA). Marian also became friends with my 9-year old daughter, Lara, and she gave her seven of her albums! Special memories! What a first class lady and incredible champion of jazz!
I listened to her show on KCSM, San Mateo every Wed. Her playing, her interviews, her talented guests, especially non-pianists like Winton Marsallis and others really interested me. I thrilled hearing the jazz connection between instruments.
I learned so much from listening to her on piano jazz over the years. To be able to go back and listen to her interview and play with Bill Evans and Alice Coltrane among others is still amazing.
I have enjoyed her NPR show and quality of performance for many years...may I suggest jazz aficionados view international sweethearts of rhythm on you tube. They were contemporaries during the 1940's.... You won't be disappointed!

I became fascinated with her music after being a classically trained music fanatic - but her music has always been in its own realm!
She is unique.
She,s really terrific - what a wonderful jazz musician, - what a lovely lady
