    The sound makes me feel really relaxing, especially at night in the quiet and happy countryside

    I'm hearing this outside my window at 1am here in Michigan. I always thought it was an American toad. But when I looked up videos of them the sounds didn't match. Then I remembered seeing a tree frog outside in the past so I looked them up. And this sound is absolutely identical to what I'm hearing outside. And it's my very favorite sound in the world.

    Yes, this is actually a Cope's Gray treefrog. Their call is different than a Gray Treefrog, but they are visually identical.

      🚫 I don't hear a single gray tree frog here at all. Only Cope's gray tree frogs. 🐸 Lots of tree frogs have "appeared" in force in the small patch of woods separating our older development and a brand new one. The new development included several retention ponds in close proximity to one another, so these newly arrived tree frogs began taking full advantage of the ponds.
      I've made it a point to go out after dark a few nights in each of the past few seasons, and you can clearly hear gray tree frogs and Cope's gray tree frogs out there. This past season, a green tree frog showed up a few nights, and we've been seeing a few spring peepers, pickerel frogs, green frogs and of course newly arrived bullfrogs as well. It's become like a froggy wonderland since 2018!

      A copes gray tree frog is a grey tree frog, just as an eastern grey tree frog is a grey tree frog. "Grey tree frog" is a blanket term for both species.

    • @TheOldestSoul
      @TheOldestSoul ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. But when you learn to hear the different calls of the species compared to the sub, and when the range of Cope's ONLY lives by you, and the gray does as well, you can tell pretty quick who's sharing that deck umbrella with you!

    I used this sound to pinpoint one for my mom (she loves these frogs) although I did not find a tree frog, I did find a one-eyed toad using this sound. I am happy.

    • @add_xtine775

      @@taleighshacinto33 yeah we had to keep the pool up till fall. They would grow up and once they finally lost their tails they would join the world but by then there would be more eggs/tadpoles. They were absolutely relentless in their procreating. I wound up buying a super cheap baby pool and a net and bucket and transferred the dudes to the baby pool. Once I had his pool cleaned up I started covering it with a tarp. It worked pretty dang good.

      @@add_xtine775 this is exactly what I'm going to do! I was here stressing it 😫 very badly, because I care about them and I don't want to mess up the habitat. So this is a great idea. So they will live in clean water then?

    • @add_xtine775
      @add_xtine775 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@taleighshacinto33 I was exactly the same. I've already seen some babies from last year back this year. I worried about all the same things. Your pool was hose water I imagine,I know mine was. So once I set up the baby pool I let it get green with algae and whatever else so the tadpoles had food when they were born. If you have any leaves or anything in the pool with them now, you can move that over too since it has a headstart on decaying and giving them food. I also got a thing of aquatic frog and tadpole pellets from the pet store for like $4, fish food will work too, I think wilted lettuce could work as well but I just used the frog/tadpole food. The water would evaporate and I'd just turn the house on and put more in. I will prepare you for the negatives (which to me were nothing compared to the lives I saved). Mosquitoes lay eggs in there, it can give the tadpoles and baby froglets food tho, so it's a negative and positive. Not all tadpoles will make it, but that's why frogs lay so many, in hopes that some do. Birds snatch them sometimes (which is why I say the "dirtier" the water, the better and that happens fairly quickly), some have defects, and sometimes the bigger tadpoles will eat the smaller ones (we had God knows how many frogs lay their babies in the pool over the summer, it was literally the frogs porno pool all summer lol). But ultimately it was worth all the trouble for so many reasons. You are helping them have a chance at life, your kids get to learn a frogs life cycle and really get up close with it, they are so stinking cute and holding a tiny froglets will literally make your day. So if you have tadpoles that already have tails it makes it easier to move them over, but don't forget the jelly like globs, and the jelly like globs that have like poppyseed sized specs bc that is the eggs. It's easiest to start by just getting a buckets and transferring them over with some of the water they are in so it has the best chance of not completely shocking their system. Good luck with your froggy adventure this summer!
