Im happy you didn't cut out the parts when she was trying to find a good answer and struggled a bit. You can see that she tries really hard to answer the questions correctly, she's very smart despite her learning disabilities. Also she looks just like you !! Amaizng video kisses!
Beauty is an overused word. I like to think that beautiful things are rare in this world. Your family is beautiful Bertie. Your sister is beautiful. The sentiment is beautiful.
The best thing I've seen on TH-cam in a long time , you are in the purest form a TH-camr seeking change with the best intentions and that puts a smile on so many people's faces!
this is such a beautiful video its nice to see a positive perspective on people with learning disabilities and how wonderful they are. i showed my brother who has autism this and he seemed to really like it. (he said he liked that your sister got the chance to tell her perspective instead of just your mother since he noticed a lot of other videos who discuss mental health usually only have the parents speak about it.)
I'm crying this video really hit home. I know a girl who's about two/three years younger than me who has the same learning disability as Gene and last week I witnessed her being taunted because of it. My immediate reaction was to go over and tell the bullies to go away and leave her alone. After about 5 minutes arguing with the bullies, I turned to her and hugged her as she cried into my shoulder; it was the third time they had bullied her that day and it was only 11:25 am. Today was our last day before Easter and as we left school she ran up to me excited because she had been told she was able to have her first sleepover at a friends house; after i got home I broke down in tears because she sees me as one of the good people in the world but we may never see each other again as I start sixth form in September. It's so refreshing to see learning disabilities shown in a positive light and I'm so proud of Gene for making such a big change! i'm aware this is a long comment, but it needed to be said.
thanks I just hope she's going to be able to manage when I've left. Even some of my "friends" complain about her but I guess they don't really care for other peoples problems...
you both have the same fire in your eyes, bursting with creativity and intelligence. like you're aware of it all, like you've been through things. I see in your mum too. you're all such kindred spirits. such a lovely video with a lovely message.
8A Katrina Schouby RudsVedbySkole it's not like yes it does bring attention but it's awareness.people with learning disabilities are often sidelined and that's not right.
Your whole family is so well spoken! Even when she couldn't find the right word to fit a concept, Genevieve was very collected and admitted fault, which most politicians couldn't do. I hope we get to see more for her and your mum in future vids, they were both so lovely. Congrats on the upcoming move, by the way. Sounds like it will be a great adventure. Best wishes to all of you Gilberts, love from Canada.
I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes, I didn't expect it to hit me that hard. It's like you told the story of me and my twin brother. He struggled a lot, always. He began thinking about suicide 5 years ago and got so violent, even to my mom. We were helpless. On the worst day of our lives we had to call the police and they brought him to the hospital. After months there he could go back home and now after two years being at home he is now in a supported house and happy there. Two years ago I never would have thought that it will ever be possible.
One of my oldest friends has a learning disability and as a kid I would get so confused when people would talk about her or make fun of her because to me she was and is just a person. A person who loves My Little Pony and Halloween, loves to tell stories, has the most beautiful blue eyes and wouldn't hurt a fly. So I liked this quite a lot, Bertie. Thank you.
aah. as the sister of a disabled brother this is so, so wonderful to see. and such a refreshing difference from all those other films that focus on "oh it's so hard, look at us cry " (which obviously are important as well). thank you for this.
My older sister is also learning disabled and has now reached the stage where she too would like to have a go at living more independently, after witnessing me live more independently at university. This video has reassured me that this is a process many families go through, and has eased some of the worry. A truly beautiful piece of work has been made here. Thank you!
My older brother also has learning difficulties and is 22 and I just wanted to say that this was such a beautiful video you made for your beautiful sister. I just watched this with my mom and we were both crying and laughing by the end. Your sister has such a colorful vibrant personality and I wish her the best of luck with moving into her new home. I hope she makes lots of friends and positive memories. Also I just wanted to congratulate your 'mum' (as you brits say) on raising such lovely children.
Your sister is such a lovely woman and your mum seems so strong and amazing. It's so interesting seeing into different peoples lives and this was so eye opening. thanks for making it
i appreciate this a lot. I know it is not the same, but both my parents are deaf and so growing up with people with disabilities in a family is a topic not widely discussed, but it definitely should be spoken about more, as it effects many people. Thank you for this.xx
This made me tear up. Reminds me of my brother and sister. Learning disability or not, as a big sister (or brother in your case) you always want the best for them. Loved this!
Gene seems to have an amazing stance on morals, she looks like she has an awesome mind and I really really wish her the best, it was a nice video Bertie
The smile on Bertie's face when Gene asks "can we do a little bit more" now that's an amazing brother!! Beautiful video, sending lots of love to all of you xxx
what a wonderful woman Gene is, as someone with a disabled brother, this is so lovely to see. we also have a Tom test, anyone who is awkward around him because of his disability we do not like. he's just a person, all you have to do is talk to him but some people can't see that and just choose to ignore him, gene has probably experienced the same again, such a lovely video and so glad to see disability represented in an honest way ❤
I absolutely despise the discrimination against people with disabilities. Just because they don't act, talk, move, or look the same as people, doesn't make them any less human than anybody else. I hate when people deliberately ignore disabled people, and if I ever see that happen I make an effort to talk to the person with disabilities so that they know the world isn't all like that. Give your brother love from me :)
The term for the systematic oppression of those with a disability is "Ableist". Great video, Bert, as always. Gene, it's so nice to meet you, thank you for sharing your life with us xx
It's so heartwarming to see Gene so successfully taking these steps towards her independence; I could have watched this for hours and hours. Congratulations Gene, you wonderful lady! x
This beautiful, Gene has such a wonderful smile - you can tell she's super happy with life. Just with the way you're mum speaks and how she describes it all is amazing, she has such a lovely spirit.
bertie this was excellent and you're all very brave for making this. gene seems like a bright and brilliant young lady and my heart feels like it's glowing after watching! her energy is so lovely and positive; it's infectious. all my love to you guys x
Wauw that's a huge step ! My sister is 23 and she still lives with us at home ! I'm going to show her this video, I'm sure Gene can be a huge inspiration for lots of us !
I don't cry much. This made me cry. It takes so much love and understanding to live with people with learning difficulties, such as my father who grew up in such a time where it was not accepted well by most. He grew up with those around him pushing him aside but has learnt to surround himself by people with love and understanding. It's not much of an overstatement to say that Bertie has become a large part of my life as someone to relate with and I treasure him even more dearly now he's made this wonderful video. Thing like this are hard to talk about and I am so glad that you have done it the way you did ( even if I didn't put it the best way). This kinda thing will make a difference and it's important that Bertie knows that. Thanks for being there in so many ways, Sam
this is something you don't click away from, you watch it and then you see how beautifully put together this is. With care and heart filmed and portrayed without misleading or to much editing. lovely work
Bertie this is beautiful and so is Gene, my heart felt so full hearing she is going to begin a whole new journey of independence, something I wish my brother may one day experience too. Congratulations Gene, you are an incredible woman! x
This is lovely. The amount of caring and support from your family unit is so heartwarming. Not only are you and your mother supporting and caring for Genevieve with her learning disability and mental health struggle, but she also supports you both and encourages you in your care of her. She's got a bright, warm heart and you can see that in her smile and her passion when she speaks. This is truly touching. Love every bit of this ❤❤❤
"Homophobic against people with learning difficulties" is something i would say completely unironically haha, I'd love to have a chat with Genevieve, she seems super nice and funny!
One of the few videos that has actually brought me to tears. I have had experience with family members experiencing mental health issues and I just bloody love seeing people coping as well as your sister is.
It's always exciting, and nerve-wracking, to move out and try to make it without (or with less support from) your parents. I wish your sister the best!
I have a very borderline learning disability, which means I perform just under my peers. I'm just as smart as them, and I'm just as mature as them, I just learn differently. Since I didn't meet many criteria for programs that could help me, there was very little help I could get. I went through hours and hours of testing to diagnose, only to hear that yes, I could benefit from help, but there were very few ways I could get it. So, I became unmotivated, and ended up pretty much a high school drop out. I'm still trying my best to finish so I can qualify for the programs that will get me to my future, but it's so hard. I'm so so glad that Gene got the help she needed. It makes my soul happy to know that this will raise awareness for learning differences. I'm hoping to adopt in the future, and adopt kids with learning disabilities. Because I know what I needed to succeed and I want to give them that. Thanks for doing this Bertie, you're really doing a good thing here.
This is beautiful Bertie, I really appreciate you making this video, it brought a tear to my eye. My older sister is 20 and she has learning difficulties too, she is more like a younger sister to me. She is actually very unique in the fact that she is the only person in the world with her condition - her condition makes her have the brain age of a 7-8 year old, she also has epilepsy and part of the middle part of her brain is missing. See your family so positive is so beautiful and got me so emotional because it can be hard, it does get really hard, but we can get through it!! Thank you for sharing Genevieve's story ❤❤
Sian Taylor Hey just wanted to say that it's such a coincidence that my sister also has such a condition which makes her think like a 7-8 year old, and she's also 20, and has epilepsy. I know how hard it is sometimes, but all the funny beautiful unique memories our sisters bring us, are all worth it :)
I just wanted to say to you guys that coincidences don't exist; you were meant to find each other on here. I may sound like a crazy lady but there's something really special going on here I can feel it.
Ah yeees, I agree that it's quite special to find someone that grew up in similar unusual circumstances as yourself. So if you ever wanna talk about life or something like that, Sian, I'm here reachable on the interwebz :>
My older brother has Aspergers' and has struggled like Gene has with his mental health and is treated very different because of his disabilities. He's the same age as Gene but he doesn't have the same positive outlook on life just yet. This was a very beautiful video and I'm glad to see that people like gene can see how bright their future can be xx
This was lovely. I hope your sister's new home makes her feel happier and that her future always feels brighter and brighter. Thank her for sharing her story with us
No judgment Genevieve ;) I hope everything works out for you and keep up the good work. Always remember that not one person is perfect. We all have struggle and make mistakes but what matters is that we are kind to each other and always do our best. You seem to be very kind and thoughtful which makes me very happy. Wishing you the best!
Dear Bertie, Thank you for showing the story of your sister (or at least a part of it!) I think she's a very lovely person and so are you and your mum! I wish you many more happy years to come and congratulations on your sister's first steps to independence. Again, thank you for showing this.
It's so lovely to see you all in this video, Bertie. I wish Gene, the very very best and send my love to you and your lovely mum too. Gene has the most beautiful smile, it totally lights up her face.
This whole video was just incredibly heartwarming, and fuck you two look so similar, srsly tho just a really nice and as always perfectly put together video.
This was so nice to watch. My little brother has special needs and I couldn't love him more or be more proud of him. It's so lovely to see a person with learning difficulties being portrayed as the lovable, complex human that they are, and not the burden that society assumes they must be.
Unflinching, honest, and beautifully made. Thanks, Gene and Bertie! -John
John, thank you so much for stopping by! This was such a pleasant surprise. Glad you took something from it x
IT'S JOHN! HI JOHN!
this was amazing, bertie.

" Being homophobic , delete that." I love her sm
SO so lovely and wonderful and how excellently brilliant for Gene.
That mother is wise af
"weed is not that dangerous" I'm sold I love her
When she said "homophobic" I believe the word she was looking for was ableist, which is when people discriminate against people with disabilities.
Im happy you didn't cut out the parts when she was trying to find a good answer and struggled a bit. You can see that she tries really hard to answer the questions correctly, she's very smart despite her learning disabilities. Also she looks just like you !!
Amaizng video kisses!
Also i wish her soooo much success when she's at her own!!
EverythingMarika ik she's so beautiful as well !!
Beauty is an overused word. I like to think that beautiful things are rare in this world. Your family is beautiful Bertie. Your sister is beautiful.
The sentiment is beautiful.
I wouldn’t say beauty is overused or rare so to speak but this is a beautiful demonstration of genuine sentiment
In some ways beauty can come in unique interesting ways. That can be seen differently by other people. We all find something that's beautiful to us.
lovely mate :) great video
I was absolutely overcome with emotion when she said "my future is bright now". This was very lovely and well done. You rock, Gene.
I would watch a full length documentary with this woman talking. she is so funny and just pleasant
me too! pls bertie
Yes Bertie "can we do a little bit more"?
this family is such a powerhouse in terms of creativity and perseverance. best wishes to you all & your futures are all bright.
Gene don't forget to get some nice plants for your new place. It'll make it feel all the more welcoming!
can't get over how similar you look
Sensitive and put together with so much care. Really sweet stuff, man. Got me emotional
The best thing I've seen on TH-cam in a long time , you are in the purest form a TH-camr seeking change with the best intentions and that puts a smile on so many people's faces!
she has the best smile I've ever seen

its nice to see a positive perspective on people with learning disabilities and how wonderful they are.

(he said he liked that your sister got the chance to tell her perspective instead of just your mother since he noticed a lot of other videos who discuss mental health usually only have the parents speak about it.)
Sarcastic Elephant That's so awesome!!
that's a perfect way of explaining it. thank you for adding that cause it gives some clarity to what my brother was trying to express.
such a loving family.
such a lovely family.

you both have the same fire in your eyes, bursting with creativity and intelligence. like you're aware of it all, like you've been through things. I see in your mum too. you're all such kindred spirits.
such a lovely video with a lovely message.

a beautiful intelligent young woman. best wishes for the future gene x

Except Gene's not ugly.

Right who the fuck are the 3 people who disliked this?
some people just can't appreciate a beautiful soul when they see one.
Maybe they're sad that we don't see more Gene

Her Mum is great. Always loved seeing her in early Bertie vlogs.
i appreciate this a lot. I know it is not the same, but both my parents are deaf and so growing up with people with disabilities in a family is a topic not widely discussed, but it definitely should be spoken about more, as it effects many people. Thank you for this.xx
A lovely and interesting video, I can't get over how alike you look!
C'est un rayon de soleil!
This made me tear up. Reminds me of my brother and sister. Learning disability or not, as a big sister (or brother in your case) you always want the best for them. Loved this!

Gene is a breath of fresh air.
You can just see the love pouring out of their hearts for each other
It's so freaky to me .. Gen looks exactly like Bertie but a girl!
Lovely video though!
Early Birdie almost like they're siblings ! 😂 I'm sorry I'll go.

I wish that Bertie would make a full length documentary like this. Gene is a gem and I love her already
Her laugh and smile are beautiful ah !!
She's so gentle aw I love her

Your mum seems so lucid and warm. And Gene is wonderful. Subscribed with a tear down my cheek and a smile on my face.
It's always exciting, and nerve-wracking, to move out and try to make it without (or with less support from) your parents. I wish your sister the best!

It's such a positive video 💗
Incredibly positive!

Gorgeous video. What a wonderful woman with such a kind spirit.
This is such a touching piece, gene you are an inspiration to me
Tears. What a beautiful girl you are Gene. You are a real inspiration with such insight and articulation. Well done

Gene is Bertie's older sister so he has the same 'more like a younger sister' experience.
Sian Taylor
Hey just wanted to say that it's such a coincidence that my sister also has such a condition which makes her think like a 7-8 year old, and she's also 20, and has epilepsy.
I know how hard it is sometimes, but all the funny beautiful unique memories our sisters bring us, are all worth it :)
What a coincidence! That is so true, life wouldn't be as exciting or even worth living without her. :)
I just wanted to say to you guys that coincidences don't exist; you were meant to find each other on here. I may sound like a crazy lady but there's something really special going on here I can feel it.

This was lovely. I hope your sister's new home makes her feel happier and that her future always feels brighter and brighter. Thank her for sharing her story with us
This made me cry. Your sister is so lovely and your mum is so strong. Gorgeous.
I love her personality so much
I respect this family beyond words.
The bit where you talk about her living in a support home is heartwarming. Genevive is so wise beyond most. Great work on this insight doc.
I love her stance on weed!
Steve Stevens omg I was just about to comment that XD
Steve Stevens XD ya
i was just about to say that!
Beautifully and sensitively made. Gene is an amazing, inspiring, person. Thanks Bertie!
This is SO important and so beautifully done!
Dear Bertie,
Thank you for showing the story of your sister (or at least a part of it!) I think she's a very lovely person and so are you and your mum! I wish you many more happy years to come and congratulations on your sister's first steps to independence.
Again, thank you for showing this.
A lot of love to you and your family Bertie
This sounds even nicer when you read it in Elliot's accent.
Agreed
It's so lovely to see you all in this video, Bertie. I wish Gene, the very very best and send my love to you and your lovely mum too. Gene has the most beautiful smile, it totally lights up her face.
This whole video was just incredibly heartwarming, and fuck you two look so similar, srsly tho just a really nice and as always perfectly put together video.
This was so nice to watch. My little brother has special needs and I couldn't love him more or be more proud of him. It's so lovely to see a person with learning difficulties being portrayed as the lovable, complex human that they are, and not the burden that society assumes they must be.
about how bloody lovely is your sister!!
She is so precious and sweet, I want to hug her.
