Watching all this old time equipment brings back a lot of memories. I ran a lot of equipment with flat belts. Here are a couple of suggestions. The longer the belt the smother the power will be from the old 1 and 2 cylinder and hit and miss engines and also set up so you can run a belt crossed will help keep it on the pullies much better because most engines pull on the bottom belt which makes the bottom belt tight and the returning belt slack and wants to track to one side the other. Also a crossed belt is affected a lot less by wind.
