I mean he did a good job escaping (only) a 3-man rush. Why was 1 rusher spying? But he essentially heaved the ball 65 yards. It's far more a Bears defensive breakdown than QB effort. Which is true of most Hail Marys. But otherwise, yes, I agree, he is a special player.

That was more than holding on swifts touchdown. #72 for the bears literally tackled #20 Martin for washington from behind. The DEI hire girl ref who was the closest to the play , of course, missed it.

As a Washington fan I've always been a fan of Jeff Joniak's radio calls going back to the early 2000s and those Shane Matthews/Jim Miller Bears teams. 😊
I’ve been wondering how he called this play as well cuz I’m a fan of Jeff Joniak. He handled his personal disappointment in the Bears as well as you could.
Gotta give credit to Tyrique Stevenson. At least he took time out from his celebrating to get back in time to tip the ball to the Washington player for the game losing TD. Brilliant!
This has been said of the Bears innumerable times for the last 38 years. But go right ahead and keep saying it . . . to yourself, if no one else listens anymore. LOL.
As a Bears fan, the holding was the least of my worries. Kyle Long even said it himself after the game, refs don’t call holding on last second Hail Mary plays. Which brings me to my ACTUAL concerns/frustrations about this play. The Bears never should’ve had 3 guys rushing the QB and ALSO having a linebacker spying the QB. What was the point in that? There’s 2 seconds left and no timeouts for Washington. Are you afraid Jayden Daniels (bruised ribs and all) is going to rip off a 55+ yard touchdown run? Bears should’ve at most been rushing 2 guys and had the other 9 defenders back deep covering the end zone. Which brings me to my last point. Where in the world was Cole Kmet? Keenan Allen? Gerald Everett? Mercedes Lewis? Bears had so many TALL pass catchers that could’ve been in the end zone waiting to box out and fight for the jump ball. Makes no sense at all. Bears deserved the loss.
I agree, but wasn’t it Washington fans who acted like they call PI last play of the game last year after losing to the Giants? Everyone gets screwed at some point.
@@joeydoherty368 Washington had a strong performance throughout the game. They had several opportunities to score more points, but unfortunately, they didn’t manage to score more than 30.
I have been saying it for a long time now. If it is coming down to a Hail Mary, the defensive team instead of putting 8 or 9 people in the back to defend the pass and allow the quarterback ample time to heap the ball downfield, rush the quarterback so he has to get the ball out of his hand fast. If you rush five, he has to get rid of the ball quickly, now you have five or six people to tackle the receiver.
As a life long Giants fan, this almost makes up for the Joe Pisarcik fumble to Larry Csonka. I was trumatised for years after that. For Bears fan, please seek professional help.

The miracle Hail Mary would never have happened if the DEI ref, who failed at every level, but was called up to the NFL, had not taken away around 20 points from the Commanders. A blowout was replaced by a Hail Mary.
I just realized...this can't be blamed on the one Bears DB who was jawing with the the crowd when the play started.
