    I am actually taking my first Meteorite into to get it Authenticated, hopefully tomorrow. It's of the Stoney variety, but still has a little magnetism. It has red shock veins and it underwent some serious char on the outside. Hopefully I'm not holding a meteorwrong, but I took a 12 step ID process which i found very helpful. I think it is beautiful, but there are some much nicer looking Iron Meteorites on this video, wow, beautiful for sure. Finding one gave me the bug and i will always search now lol. Good video, very nice 👌

    Absolutely gorgeous! So many beautiful details. That El Sauz at 8.30 - I’ve never seen such an interesting gold colored nodule - do you know if that is pentlandite? Thanks for putting this together Topher!

    • @theasteroidminer2395
      @theasteroidminer2395 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The little nodule in the El Sauz is simply a bigger than usual metal grain that was partially melted during fall. It thus pops out through the fusion crust. The color is due to irridescence, itself caused by the thin layer effect. The golden color of some metal inclusions might also be due to the presence of FeS.

    I was actually standing in a pasture with my telescope one night and all of a sudden these fireballs came flying by about 20ft off the ground moving parallel with the ground. They were tumbling and still on fire as they landed in the pasture. It was really weird to witness this event.

    • @TopherspinMeteorites
      @TopherspinMeteorites  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not exactly sure what you witnessed. It doesn't really sound like a meteor meteorite event. I say this because meteorites never come in parallel to the ground. You will never see them on fire 20 ft above your head. This just doesn't happen.

    • @desertweasel6965
      @desertweasel6965 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TopherspinMeteorites it really blew my mind and it was more like 30ft, it was two small fireballs tumbling and also bits and pieces were trailing off the back. They wasn't traveling super fast either and were traveling at about a 20 degree angle. They were literally on fire and fell somewhere in the pasture. What could it have been?

    • @TopherspinMeteorites
      @TopherspinMeteorites  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have no idea what that was that you experienced. Meteors enter "dark flight" (Google it) way above the ground, closer to tens of kilometers (making the strew fields hard to locate). They are traveling 27,000 - 95,000 MPH when they enter the atmosphere and slow to terminal velocity 200 - 400MPH when landing.
      If you know the date, you can check the fireball reports at fireball.amsmeteors.org/members/imo_view/browse_reports

    • @desertweasel6965
      @desertweasel6965 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TopherspinMeteorites this was around 2009-2010. I would say it was traveling around 80mph if that. I saw it with my bare eyes not through the scope. It literally looked like a meteor that enters Earth's atmosphere and starts coming apart with bits of sparks and fire trailing off the back and faded just before hitting the pasture. Now I'm very curious to what it was, because I agree, that doesn't sound like a meteor, but it most definitely came from the sky traveling west. I've thought about going back to that farm and simply asking if I can go down into the pasture with my metal detector.

    A stone that attracts magnets, its density is 2.83, its color is black inside and out, and it contains fine, shiny crystals. It scratches ceramic and does not leave a color because it hurts ceramic.... The stone is very hard and scratches iron.... Does anyone tell me what type it is or how to determine its type? Thank you

      On average only 5 or 6 meteorites are found a year in the entire world.
      In comparison diamonds are extremely common. Its estimated only about 60,000 meteorites have been found in all of human history.
