    Someone on Reddit nailed it right on the head: AEW fans don't like the idea of explaining things to casual fans because then the high horse of knowledge they are riding isn't as high anymore.

      When you want to expand the fanbase of a company you should be trying to educate new fans and try to bring them on board. Not getting all pissy with them if they're not watching all the same NJPW and what not shows at 3 AM when they're live. They're doing nothing but turning away fans who with the proper education might want to jump onboard. AEW fans online pretend to get mad at fans for not giving AEW a chance for claming Tribalism. But the most hardcore AEW fans are more into Tribalism then anyone else. Usually the people who claim to be the most hardcore and dedicated fans of something are the most insufferable toxic people. Watching wrestling is supposed to be fun and a distraction from the unfun parts of life. But if its just going to make you even more miserable then why even bother watching?

      That's every hobby. If you examine most hobbies (especially those that are more niche) there will always be a group that are hyper aware of every little detail of the history of the thing they love. Often these people are also mainly obsessed with swinging their deep knowledge of a thing around like a cudgel at anyone that dares ask a question they think is dumb, or some kind of wrongthink against these folks beliefs regarding said hobby. In my experience in hobbies outside of wrestling it is the exact same thing just different words and topics. Ironically these same folks also seem to mostly hate the thing they treat as their hobby. But, that's a whole other topic.
      I honestly respect Jim and Brian a lot for having such a deep knowledge and still very clearly retaining at least some of their ability to be light heated, and passionate about their hobby/profession. Not that they don't dress folks down, but I've never got the feeling they would just shit on a new fan of something just because they were new.

      -Taking up a position that is largely considered silly by the majority of reasonable people.
      -Able to feel constantly persecuted because the definition of persecuted has been changed to: someone disagrees with me.
      -People in opposing promotions have done bad things = easily moved or shifted goalposts if an argument isn't progressing the way you want it to.

    That is 100 percent my issue with AEW's presentation. The matches don't exactly speak for themselves, so I have zero idea why I should care about anything.
    I love Tomohiro Ishii from his work in NJPW and RoH.... but he just seemed anonymous on AEW. I was like, "what the fuck is a 'stone pitbull'?"and I had seen HOURS of that dude's matches by that point.

    The fact that Baby Cube is talking about wrestling like if he was an authority says more about the current wrestling landscape. Is he right about this situation, sadly yes. But the business shouldn't have an outsider mark telling what people in it should know. The people in the business should be knowing this basic shit. The fact that some random super mark is saying what the owner and Booker of AEW should know says a lot about this business

    • @jesuszamora6949
      @jesuszamora6949 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep. The fact that people outside the business even have to say this basic shit is crazy, and yet, no one outside the WWE even tries this shit now.

    Not comparing the actual content, but the AEW situation reminds me of the Snyder DC movies. A small niche of extremely vocal people were getting what they wanted, most everyone else said no thanks.
    After a few monumental failures Warner pulled the plug instead of continuing to spend a quarter billion dollars a pop making films for that niche audience. But AEW will continue because the person holding the purse strings is part of that niche audience.

      Synder fans remind me of AEW's too. They actually got together and did something cool. All In and a second theatrical cut, respectively, but got too emotionally invested to acknowledge any flaws in the things they had helped create despite being some of the people in the best positions to get those flaws fixed. How many consumers can legitimately claim to have forced a product they wanted to buy into existence? How many would then turn around and not demand it to be closer to what they were promised? How did this happen twice in such a short timespan?

    I'm a wrestling fan. I've been a wrestling fan all my life. There were episodes in the early days of AEW when I watched that I had no clue who was in the ring. The matches would start and there would be no explanation of who the men or women were in the ring. Tony just assumes that we know who it is who's wrestling with no backstory at all. I can only imagine how it is for casual fans😂.

    You would think with TK being such a wrestling fan he would know this by now. WCW hyped up the Luchadores and Japanese wrestlers. • @JetForceFive

    Maybe unpopular opinion because it is universally beloved now, but when I was a teen, the ECW vibes were similar. I LOVE ECW... but... from a quality standpoint, fan reaction and divisiveness, there are a ton of similarities between the original ECW and the current AEW. The roster was mainly unknowns with some former stars sprinkled in, the hardore fanbase (I was a fan, but I watched VHS tapes in Missouri not in the arena in Philly) vehemently crapping on what you like, and the actual wrestling being very hit or miss - usually it was awkward and bad, sometimes it was stellar. The best wrestlers weren't usually there very long. I'm NOT saying that ECW and AEW are the exact same thing, but the way AEW exclusive fans truly believe they have the only real wrestling show, with the best matches and the best talent - when it is clear that they don't -- is eerily similar. A majority of the best ECW talent truly created their legend after they left and went somewhere bigger. Not all of them, but a majority. I watch AEW clips because I just love wrestling of all shapes and sizes, but it is delusional that any promotion is on the same level as WWE. Other promotions have their highlights, but across the board other promotions are really just punching upward.

    • @robdurfee6861
      @robdurfee6861 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tony was a huge ECW ark as well so it makes sense his promotion has the same issues. I remember reading somewhere that for one of TKs birthdays he asked to go to Philly to watch Jerichos last ever ECW match. Probably why he always seems to defend Jericho too

    • @JetForceFive
      @JetForceFive 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @robdurfee6861 I haven't heard that before, but it makes sense. I respect Tony having the rebellious spirit that young Heyman had, having the vision/passion to get out of the gate quickly, and for the "believe when nobody else does" energy. Those same aspects are what kept fans chanting E-C-W for decades after closure. ECW is distinct because they did what they were able to do without an actual arena, or tour or TV distribution or financing. Granted, that lack of resources showed in the product, but the spirit and style was still strong and unique. AEW is disappointing in a different way because they have all the possible resources. They have the TV distribution, they have bottomless financing (for now), they book big arenas, and they aren't that stylistically different from the more popular brand. So to see it be boring, mostly confusing, and the show feeling segregated into segments for different niche fans each week is truly dropping the ball. I think a lot of wrestling fans have become anti-Tony because unlike other wrestling owners/promoters over the course of history that were always second-guessed but not usually questioned, Tony has the same resume and experience in running a wrestling promotion as someone sitting behind the barricade or on Twitter. So when he does dumb stuff, most fans believe they can do better because they probably could.

    One of the really cool things ecw, wcw and wwf did back in the day. The commentary would tell the backstory of the Wrestlers to get them over and help the audience become more familiar with them.
    Which I think is a lost element they don't do as much nowadays.
