  • This beautiful game caught my attention immediately after looking it up. I downloaded it, played it, and loved it. I went through a second time to record the play through, but the recording messed up. This is my third play through of Journey. I didn't add commentary to it because it's very focused around the feel of the game visually and emotionally. Journey is available on the PS3 marketplace and can be purchased for $15 at the moment. For more updates or info on the game you might wanna head to the game developer site. AND if you don't have a PS3 or the money to purchase the game... Here ya go! Entire play through in 1080p.

Chills, even to this day. I remember playing first through with someone else. They stuck with me the whole way, even past the ending sky scene. I lost him, and patiently waited at the top for him to come up. When he finally did, he chirped like crazy and we walked through the light together.
He later lent me a message that simply said "Thanks for the Journey. :)"

I just got this last night for free on my PS4. New to gaming, had not heard about this and started playing. I was up until 3am. Hard to describe meeting the first player. It took me a few minutes to comprehend that it was another person. Then I started chattering away. It is a beautiful game. I felt bad when I had to disconnect. He/she had raced ahead and was stuck in the third or fourth level...where you see the carpets flying through the square in a big wall. I chirped away when I found them and began to explore the level. Guess he had been stuck for awhile, because he went on a chirping explosion when I brought the scarf whirlwind and we floated through the square opening...such a great feeling when we "snowboarded" down that huge sand mountain. I had to leave after the next level, felt bad, but am still feeling the joy of that session today. I have my fingers and toes crossed that The Last Guardian will also have potent emotional qualities like Journey.

I actually thought it was a really, really clever AI and was admiring the seemingly spontaneous and organic interactions. I cried so hard at the end when they revealed the names of the real people you'd met along the way, realising I went through that emotional journey with someone. A real person.

I think the ending being so anticlimactic is to teach us a lesson - that life IS the destination. It's a hook to make you want to go back and replay some more, thinking, "did I discover all there was to discover?" and there's always more to discover... this is true of this game I think, and life in general. It also teaches us that process is more beautiful than the end result.

    • @RtB68

but I always feel the destination is the 'point'. That is part of the philosophical Journey of a life-time though.
The worst threat to your existence is the contrast of an intense boredom of living a life without purpose, but also tremble before death and fear running out of time.
Go past the simple beauty of these graphics and abstraction, there's a silly, cheesy, but relevant life-story behind this game that's incredibly rooted into the development of individuality in a "desert" of opportunities, beauty, joyful, but also cold failures, feeling lost, scared, isolated, etc.
If it looks boring, you haven't looked at it with true artistic interest. :P

What-If Machine Id say, its the story of a civilization, that used some kind of enourmous natural energy-source (for me, it looks much like the ideology of our planets life-force known well from some japanese fantasy) for theyr own. Ending in war for power, or the resource itself ... that war was fatal to the civilization and messed stuff up to the extend of destroying even the environment. The player was the last hope for ... probably restoring the forces balance ? ... those automatons in the city-underground were probably some analogy of autonomous war-machines, staying there long after the civilizations fall. ... but the storry has a lot of questions to put - what were those carpet/textile force-representations ? I thought about it a lot and i think theyre actually souls of those dead people, that died in those grimm events. All those objects at begining are practically tomb-stones and you were freeing them from the ruins, so they would be set free (maybe some form of redemption) while helping you reach the mountain. What is bothering me, is the ending ... aldoe, fitting to the world, i suspect he did die in the snow field, where the caption afterwards was jus his whishfull imagination ... what would explain, why it ended in him walking into the light at the werry end ... maybe it all was just the image in his head ... a way of accepting, what happened to theyr civilization, dying during those bad days too ... just slowly getting in line white the fact that all have perished white him. ---- may as well be an artistic warning message for our own way of life.

It's about life. You go through birth, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, ect.
You you through your "journey" trying to reach the end, then die at your destination only to be reborn again.
Along the way you uncover pieces of your history and meet companions. Beautiful game.

Realizing the person i played with was real is making me tear up. I played this game this morning and we stuck together the entire time. When they got stuck on a part i sat there and kept chirping for them. We stayed together for the full of it and it was the most amazing roller coaster ive been through. Sincerely beautiful and such a unique experience that cannot ever be replaced. Being able to play with a stranger that continued to communicate with me ment the world. And finally at the end i let them go first. Out into the credits. It was beautiful. It really made me realize that watching someone live along side you is one of the greatest things. Being able to be both terrified and absolutely amazed are all the joys that we will all go through. I think the person who joined me for that ride as it was an experience that cannot be replaced.
hahaha didnt expect this to get so long, but all in all, if you decide to play this game, please stay with your new friend. It really makes this amazing game all the more beautiful

31:32 I remember playing this game for the first time and being absolutely astounded at the beauty of this short scene. It was so breathtaking and yet so simple. Just the sun reflecting off the sand. It didn't need rolling mountains and valleys and mist to create a perfectly cinematic shot. The world slowly revolving as you went by, the music, the way the sun travels over the sand, everything about that part was beautiful. I wish we had more games like this.

One thing I love about the game is that the entire thing is your story, not shared. The whole game itself is up to how you interpret everything, essentially making the story as you go along. The idea of co-op without any actual communication just adds to the effect. Truly one of the greatest titles of all time, 10.5/10 for sure.

Even the same sound effects, music and flight mechanics. I like to imagine it’s the earth version of the moths from sky. Like the same breed just a different element. Last month, i have finally gotten the chance to play this game for the very first time. For years i've been listening to the soundtrack, never watch any game plays and only have read comments about other people experiences. I was lucky, i found a partner on the start of my jouney. i remember i got an anxiety when meeting other player and kinda wished i could experience this journey alone, but i'm glad i didn't. The player waited for me as if they knew that this was my first time playing it, as i was struggling a lot. They'll lead me and waited for me. When doing the part to get the prophecies, we'll do each sides lighting it up. i'm not sure why but there was the part where we got separated. I was so sad about it, so i thought the game only paired you for some part of the journey. I chirped hoping to get another call, but I didn't. So i kept on walking, alone. hoping that maybe somewhere i will find them again. But from being alone, I got curious if I can do other tricks if I click the same button in different rhythm but it only make a slight bit chaotic sound. i was amused so i keep clicking it. BUT THEN, THERE WAS A CALL BACK, AND THE NOISE WAS MAKING THE SAME EXACT RHYTM. AND I FOUND MY PARTER AGAIN. And when we were on the dark sand with the monster, they will chirped as if they were telling me to follow them to hide, it was so sweet as i really have no idea of what's going on. and there was also a part when my partner got caught by the monster because of me. I thought i lost them again, but then they chirped. Throughout the whole journey they will lead and then we will walk side by side and make the same chirping noises we did when we found each other. at the end of the game, i found out that i did only met one single player. This game was truly magical.

I had this saved for a while and finally got to watching it. After the first few minutes of not understanding what was going on, I was thinking this was just another puzzle game to get to a place and wasn't too excited. I ended up sticking with it through the whole video and glad I did. People complaining in the comments about it being easy or not having a real story do not truly understand what it means to be a good game. The point of a good game is to capture the player, not just in cool graphics or crazy gameplay. This one captures players with its tranquility through smooth flow, beautiful music and great scenery along with its style of progression. If you want to just look at it blindly and say "oh you just touch rugs and move on" well this kind of game isn't for you then. Everyone has their own preference to game styles or storyline. This game did a great job in its ability to really capture attention and curiosity with its style of play, puzzle solving, and beautiful music. I admit if I tried playing it I would be lost not understanding what to do or where to go for a while, but it still did a great job on how it runs through. I'll never understand why people have to hate on games or insult them just because they don't like it. especially when they haven't a clue on how to make a game themselves and act as if they know how to make every game perfect... for them at least... I think they did a great job on the game, and I love the music to it.

The game uses a whole different language to express itself: the language of art. Mostly games need explanations of what is happening. This game makes you wonder, think what is happening and what happened, and you understand. It doesn’t need explanations, it’s like it whispers the answers to your soul, you get what it’s trying to tell, this really is, a perfect game, with a perfect ending.

It's so beautiful in its simplicity, showing that you don't need a long, complicated, drawn out story to have a great game. Very well done, I love it.

I like to think, as a Sky child, that These were our ancestors. And I have a theory of How, It was not a matter of reproduction ( If Possible at all, As these are not Human, but humanoid Entities ) but instead a matter of what happened when these creatures stepped into the light. I believe that when they stepped into the light, Our Current elders were created. They looked like the cloth creatures at first, But instead, They had Bird-like Capes. The Lands turned from sands to lush Greens and beautiful Glaciers, and each elder took a place, each more different then the last.
The First born Elder, took the Isle of Dawn, which had not changed much, ruins of old still stood, and at the top, he built his beautiful palace.
The second born Took Daylight Prarie, with its many butterflies, Birds, and Mantas, He too, made a temple.
The third was the Hidden Forest Elder, whom took to Hiding away from the Rain that Soaked her wings, instead blacksmithing.
The fourth, The Valley of Triumph Twins. With their Value of strength and delight of sports, built an Entertainment Arena, Though, there were no citizens yet.
The Fifth took to battle Training Himself, hiding away in a castle he built with his own hands.
And Finally, The Vault of Knowledge elder, who valued knowledge and Spirituality over life itself.
Once All the elders were settled, People, floods of people filled their Civilisations! It lasted Many generations, until one Fateful day. Something appeared out of the clouds, where the Light of the creature that once created them resided. It shattered the light, scattering the pieces across the lands. Strange plants grew, Capturing anything within reach. That’s when They came, The Krill. Descendants of the Guardians sealed away long ago, they Attacked everywhere, causing many deaths, If not most for the Fighters in Golden Wasteland, where they Chose to Reside. The people residing on the Mountain of light where immediately Turned to stone by what the elders Called ‘The Eden Storm’,
That is when they vowed the Next Generation would Save them all, Relive their Stolen Memories And Bring back their civilisations. Even if they had to Sacrifice themselves to do it. The Children of the Light.

Fantastic Game. Fantastic Soundtrack. Fantastic Storyline.
The one thing about this game is the storyline can be how you choose it to be.
Are you the chosen one who can climb the mountain to save your civilization?
Are you one of many being punished for your sins like in how the game depicts?
Or are you simply the one who seeks to claim your place amongst the heavens?
either way, this game is the very definition of genius.

By the end of the game I felt something that I don't think I've ever felt before in a video game:
Absolutely at one with my character; I mean, when walking towards that light I don't even think the character itself knew what was in store, I think that the thrill of the journey is just as exhilarating to the character as it is to the player. The trepidation of discovering what the goal of the journey actually is is just as tangible to me as it was the protagonist.
That's just my interpretation of it.

The audio and viduals remided me of another masterpiece game I played on my Wii called Lost in Shadow. I saw it as a masterpiece game because it didn't have lots of story, the graphics were amazing and the gameplay was simple. Yet I still loved it, despite the fact that it wasn't a type of game I would play. I miss that game now.
As I watched the entire gameplay here, I voiced in my head what the character may have been thinking or what those "gods" may have been saying. And it was beautiful in itself. I even saw a bit of myself in it. About how life can throw all of these challenges at you, how they seem impossible, but if you power through and stay confident that you can reach your goals, life will reward you.
That's how I saw this game. There's more to it, but that would be enough for me to write an entire essay on it.

Lost in Shadow was a gorgeous game as well. I unfortunately never had a Wii, but I saw plenty of gameplay to know it. You should check out Ori and the Blind Forest if you like both that and this game.

I know I am like 10 years late but I am still going to write this. I just finished my first playthrough with my sister at my side. We decide to buy the game because it looked pretty. We played it and thought it was a pretty good game. But then we got to the start fo the underground blue ruins and there was another person waiting in the sand. I know the game displayed online multiplayer but 10 years int he future would people be playing the game? The location was suspicios like a generation point for bots. We carried on thinking the other player was a bot. As we played we though it was a really good ai who knew the extra scarf pickups and would copy our chirping. Once we got to the top of the tower the "AI" stopped moving but then continued again. We thought that this was a turning point but it meant a different player joined. That player trudged through the mountain with us and we barley made it to the final cutscenes with no scarf left. We were separated but completed the game on our own. We had a conversation afterward which is when I realized these were real people throughout the journey. This game is amazing and I could write so much more but the fact you can play with others is crazy I am speechless about a 2012 game

There's absolutely no way that this game was released in 2012. The graphics, the music... I just have no words to describe this. Truly a masterpiece.
