    I removed the catalytic converter from my Africa Twin crf1100 2021 model. Then replaced the OEM exhaust can with a slip-on Remus from my previous AT (2016 model). It wasn't 100% compatible because it doesn't have the exhaust valve so I removed the cables. I also removed the Remus baffle.
    The result is a definite reduction in power at low speed and low revs, which matters when you do technical off-road terrain. I also have cold start issues. Need to push the start button 4-5 times in the morning for it to start.
    It's certainly faster at high speed but I suspect it runs very lean. I've had no engin warning lights since I did the work.
    I will need to remap the ECU to compensate.
    I have done two fairly long distance gravel road trips after i did the work and I realise I may have made a mistake with removing the cat as well.

    What is the function of the cables and the mechanism that the original exhaust has?

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      From what i have been told they are for cold start baffling. Not really a needed piece.

    A little update, I found my Yosh slip on to be too loud and softened throttle response in low revs so I decided to try the optional spark arrestor from Yoshimura, it's the best $44 you can spend for this muffler, although it should be included, anyways, I now have the crisp low end throttle response that I was missing AND it's sounds damn near stock, it might be a tiny bit louder than stock but not by much. Now, if it's worth a total of $700 for a little less weight and better looks? Hmm...

    Installed mine yesterday, nice pipe, looks fantastic and sounds great. Heat shield did not line up so I had to enlarge/lengthen holes, supplied screws are too short to hold it on. Oh, properly removing the cables is a job, not terrible but sort of a pain. Power is softer right off idle which is okay, mine always seemed snatchy at certain engine settings, midrange/upper midrange maybe gained a hp or 2. All in all, keep the stock pipe imo, unless you just want more noise and better looks. Almost too loud for my taste WITH the supplied battle installed.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! Glad to hear you like the pipe. It does sound good!

    Is it necessary to rewrite the ECU program because the exhaust valve is cancelled?

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope. This bike has been running strong 20k miles since this installation with zero issues.

    • @manybikes
      @manybikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes... my apologies. The camera ran out of batteries. There are three or 4 screws and a few plastic rivets to remove. Then, looses the nuts securing the cables to the adjustment stays until the cables can be slipped out. Once the cables are removed you can button it back up.
